I don't know if he did it because it was backfiring on him, I don't know if he did it because he was being called out for it by literally everyone, I don't know if he did it because it was the honorable thing to do. I'm just glad he did it.
Crossposted.
I mean, seriously, how can that not make you smile? Do you have no freaking heart at all? *sets released textless wallpaper version as his background*
I bring this up because I purged my closet most thoroughly last night and am looking to restock with better fitting and looking things. However it seems I must order my pants over the world wide interwebs. Shirts, I suspect, might be a bit easier, although I'd prefer to try things on.
Yes, I at times am a bit metro.
There are apparently Hellsing spoilers out for the final chapter. I'm waiting to see before I pass judgment. I do this usually for chapters, but this one in particular, if only because the spoilers I hear sound... well, kind of strange.
I mean, this is Hirano's freshman outing into a finished series and it does show from time to time, but what I'm hearing is sort of out of character. Bit like a fanfic kind of thing.
ETA:
Sorry for anyone who caught my initial reaction (pre this entry), it was definitely more ranty than I really intended it to be.
ETA: While writing this, the NYT put up an article about it.
It's kind of insane that this was even in question. And on some level, I'm kind of disappointed, if only because I was kind of curious as to what Obama was going to do if McCain just didn't show up. A stand up comedy act? Town hall? Debate Biden? Some random jerk they pulled from the audience? Maybe sing us some showtunes!
Damn it, I want to see Obama sing us some showtunes!
I may put up something later on my feelings re: McCain these days. I'll put it on my google blog and link it here so that people who do not wish to be involved in things political have the option to avoid it. Also, I want to start using that blog more as a showcase for my writing. You know, so that I can show people who might hire me for it.
But it puts me in the mood for something equally in scope and style, but with magic instead of shields that shoot cyanide and karmic body swapping machines that work with trodes and wires and... whatnot.
My job takes me 'round the city, so I have to drive a lot and need me a new audiobook. Any suggestions?
That's right, I'm attempting to make homemade chicken stock. I've been saving up chicken parts for months now, turned on the soundtrack to Ratatoullie (my favorite music to cook to), chopped up the veggies, loaded up the pot, did the whole nine yards. With any luck, I shall be rewarded with a thick, delicious, light chicken stock, suitable for all sorts of tasty dishes.
Step two will be making dark chicken stock.
Ambitious? Maybe. Fun? Oh, definitely. Even if I fuck up, I can at least say "Check me out, culinary bitches, I tried to make my own chicken stock!".
This is how all amateur cooks talk to each other. We also have duels with kitchen tongs as if they were rapiers. True fact.
There's nothing wrong with a little ambition (although there can definitely be wrong with a little too much ambition. Of the "I want to rule the world" type, for example). Drives us forward. I'm trying to reapply myself to my ambition to be able to live off being a writer. I don't care if I'm famous or great, I just want to make my way through life telling stories.
Which brings me to my next great ambition. I have elected that this year?
I shall join all of you crazy bastards in National Novel Writing Month. It will, of course, not be easy. I have to get all my grad school work in, as well as two weddings that month.
But if it were easy, it wouldn't be an ambition. And then it wouldn't be fun.

...What the hell's with the look on my face? Seriously. The iPod is me listening to Podcastle. Short fantasy fiction. Very good stuff. Check out their sister sites, Science Fiction Stories in Escape Pod and Horror Stories in Psuedopod.
It is, in fact, an absolutely beautiful day here. Seriously, it's not even really windy. It's breezy at best.
Actually, nonsense is a wrong word, it implies that this storm isn't a big deal.
While I tend to think that using the phrase certain death is a bit much (It's five hundred miles wide and two million miles tall! It's bigger than the whole earth!) this thing is a major problem for people in coastal areas. The wind is causing massive storm surges into places like Galveston (freaking fortress) and Corpus Christi (birthplace of Whataburger). Much in the same way, the big problem in New Orleans during Katrina was when the storm surges burst through the levies.
Now, as for me? Allow me to show you something. This, as of Friday, 2:30 CST, is the project path of Ike from www.weather.com

This is a map of Texas, with San Antonio (where I live!) circled.

San Antonio is pretty well inland, so there's very little to fear from the ol' storm surge. Notice also, though, that we're not longer on the hurricane's projected path. Now, these things are subject to change, but as that bad boy gets closer and closer, the more and more accurate that path becomes. So in all likelihood? We're not in the storm's path and will catch some of the exterior stuff. My guess is Tropical Storm force winds, which back home, they didn't even cancel school for.
I probably still have work tomorrow morning, for example.
However, if it does start to swing our way, I'll still be fine. As we are inland, the storm will start to weaken by the time it gets to us (Tropical Storm systems weaken over land). I've already filled up a couple of pitchers with water and bought some delicious non-perishable food. Mostly PB and J. Worst case scenario? We lose power for a few days.
I'll charge up my cell phone, and you can go ahead and try and call in to check on me if it does swing towards us. If there's anyone who WANTS a call during that time, just reply here and I'll make a point of ringing ya.
Excelsior!

The ultimate showdown

This is the most epic photo of all.
So I'm going to go become one of those people that I mock. Yes, I am going to head over to Borders, buy an iced tea and maybe a sandwich to pay my rent, as it were and become...
One of those people who work on their novel/screenplay at a coffee shop.
-_-
Something about having people around helps my creative juices flow. A little solitude is great for relaxing, but to work? I need a human being within a certain visual radius of me.
So, some of you have heard me mention my latest film project I've been working on lately. Others may have heard how I was almost arrested because of a prop gun. Have you been wondering what this dangerous project was?
Well, here it is. An entry into a contest for White Wolf Games. They're releasing Hunter: The Vigil this August and they decided the best way to advertise was by having their fans create trailers.
Here is our entry. I'm sure I'll pester you all to vote for me when public voting starts.
ETA:
Fun fact. I hit "post this" like... weeks ago.

Those two, on the other hand, probably wouldn't get along so well. Joker would find him less interesting.
