I will not accept commissions of copyrighted/trademarked characters (for obvious reasons). I will also not do any art of a sexual nature (personal preference).

3/25/07 05:36 pm - I Liiiiive.

So obviously I'm just not updating this thing very much. Or even logging into it to check the locked friends entries. But I am still alive, never fear.

More often updated are my RP-LJs, for logses and things:

Jack Salem/Thomas Grey: [info]greysalem
Dr. Otto Octavius: [info]marvel_otto
Mammomax: [info]mm_mammomax

(And, more casually, Movieverse Doc Ock. Yes, I am a big geek.)

And, most recently, I set up an LJ strictly for WoW blatherings: [info]wow_hazmat

1/13/07 08:09 pm - Why K REALLY Fights

Pimping the spouse's blog again. His latest entry expands on what he's up to with his thesis. And especially what he's getting at.

Why We REALLY Fight

I'd say more, but he says it so much better. :)

1/9/07 03:57 pm - Raygun Reverie

Hubby has a new blog -- Raygun Reverie which is, as he puts it, "A haphazard account of one film student's attempt to resurrect a vintage genre: 50's sci-fi!"

Why 50s Sci Fi? For the answer, read Why We Fight, his latest entry.

1/8/07 05:44 pm - FRACKIN' AWESOME

So, wow, today has been a frackin' awesome day. Got off wayearly from work, and since I had the sick time coming, don't even miss out on the money. (I'm not sick, it was just slow today.) Went home and got a ton of things done, including laundry, garbage, dishes, etc etc. Tinkered with my Doc Ock LJ (roleplay from MarvelMUCK), learning new things about layouts and Livejournal, and then someone very anonymously went and paid for a year of LJness for the OckLJ. I was floored. I'm still floored. And thrilled. More icons! No ads! WHEEEE!

Then K came home from his first day of the quarter and had a pretty awesome day himself. Not only did he find out his one class should be useful, but he was able to make it a requirement (replacing some stupid documentary seminar) and THEN he was able to switch out the other class which he didn't need 'cept for loanstuffs with something ALSO useful, and long story short, it'll help him get his thesis started. PLUS not one but two profs at SCAD told him, "Don't compromise your vision, stick to your convictions," so total validation there. (K's vision? 50s TV sci-fi. Captain Video and the like!)

So, OMG. OMG. OMG.

1/3/07 05:50 pm - "The Spirit" New and Old.

I know this is a huge longshot, since Will Eisner's "The Spirit" is, like George Herriman's "Krazy Kat," one of the best comics that almost nobody knows about, but I'm wondering if there are any fans of Eisner's Spirit who have read the new Spirit comics being published by DC. I'm hoping for some opinions, in other words. The art style doesn't thrill me (it's good, but to me it lacks a lot of the character of Eisner's work) and I haven't bought 'em to read, so can't judge the writing.

Any thoughts? Anyone?

12/18/06 05:58 pm - New Logs

For those not on the garoumush lj who watch this thing and care: Greylogs in future will be posted here: http://greysalem.livejournal.com/.

I iz lazy.

12/4/06 06:28 pm - Parents. Sigh.

Dear my parents:

Asking me "Why do you hate us?" is neither helpful nor constructive.

Doing it in ALL CAPS is less so.

*sigh*

And they wonder why I don't want to deal with them. :/

12/1/06 01:48 pm - Best Telemarketer Ever

"Hello, is this X?"

"This is X, yes."

"Ma'am, my name is Y calling from Blah Publisher's Sweepstakes, how are you doing today?"

"...Feeling very uninterested."

"Oh, okay, have a nice day, sorry to bother you."

11/21/06 03:46 pm - Onward and... Upward?

Hating my job. Sensing another plateau, drawing-skill-wise, on the horizon. Thinking very seriously about getting me some federal financial aid and going back to school for art stuffs. Already waaaaaaay missed the application deadline for Spring '07 of the local state school here, though, and SCAD is way too fucking expensive to consider (even though I hear their sequential art department's nice *whine*).

Hm.

11/5/06 08:44 pm - Agonizing PSP post

K just got a PSP (again!) and is now testing its (pretty lousy) browser to see if it will allow me to post in emergencies. Here goes nothing!

10/6/06 07:34 pm - Art Stuffs

I now have a gallery on deviantArt and though most of it's Doc Ock stuff, not all of it is, honest. B)

10/6/06 07:04 pm - Meme

Snagged from [info]ashcake

Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs, before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with the name of the RPG you played them in. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.

1. Jack Salem / Thomas Grey, GarouMUSH
2. Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus, MarvelMUCK
3. Hazmat, GarouMUSH
4. Giles Estram, DarkMetal
5. Iggan, The Lion King MUCK
6. Winter Rain, GarouMUSH
7. Melas, African Tales MUCK
8. Adia, GarouMUSH
9. Salem, DarkMetal
10. Anna, MarvelMUCK
11. Beatrice, GarouMUSH
12. Erik, GarouMUSH

No peekie 'til you have your list, or something. )

8/12/06 10:37 pm - Doc Ock Geeking

If all goes well, this weekend I'll be getting a new power adapter thingie for my poor scanner, and then... more uploads! Whee! Been drawing like a madwoman these days and... damn. I think I'm breaking out of a years-long plateau. It's both exhilerating and frightening... though I still have a very long way to go before I'm anywhere near where I want to be.

Husband and I finally have gotten around to reading Ultimate Spider-Man (all the way up to issue 91). We're both still very much main-Marvel folks, though there's a lot that's entertaining and good about USM. Ultimate!Ock's still too flat-stomachy for my taste, but I've come to like the characterization, I think. Bendis' writing is extremely spiff.

Marvel needs to publish an Essential Doc Ock collection, by the way. I doubt they will, but they need to. B)

I also seem to have started an Ockfic. It was originally intended to be a House of M type thing, until I read a bit of HoM that I'd missed before and realized that Otto was doing just fine (bioethics! hah!). Fortunately, I didn't get TOO awfully far, plus the basic concept of the piece is too compelling for my poor little brain. And I was surprisingly pleased at the writing. So, I can rework. Might even finish it, who knows?

On MarvelMUCK, things are proceding quite interestingly, and Otto is a busy, busy Octopus. I cannot wait 'til the Big Sinister Plan (tm) finally gets revealed and implemented. And there's been some damned fine roleplay in the meantime. My page of logs is getting quite long. B)

7/13/06 04:48 pm - I am...

...happy to have high speed Internet again, and pretty pleased with the local DSL services (the tech guy who came to fix our jack happily set up our router too).

...trolling the web for Doc Ock pictures.

...wanting this very much.

...such a fucking fangirl, omg, omg. :}

7/10/06 11:34 pm - Metal Tentacles FTW

Kudos to jaygazer for pointing me toward MarvelMUCK, which turned out to be just what the doctor order. Dr. Octavius, to be precise. Hubby's there too, as Captain America, one of his favorite super-heroes. From what I've seen so far, the players are quite good, and I'm looking forward to having some comic-book style fun there. Makes for a nice change from the grim "realism" of GarouMUSH.

I came into comic books very late in life. I remember picking up a few Star Trek comics as a kid, but though I liked watching the Superman movies as much as anyone, I was never really into comics when I was young. Later on, I was introduced to graphic novels like The Crow (thanks to [info]andrian6), Watchmen, and stuff by Jhonen Vasquez (thank hubby for that). I read other graphic novels, too, watched and enjoyed superhero movies and cartoons, but the normal superhero comic book stuff didn't much get my interest, generally speaking.

That's changed a lot recently. Blame the whole "Civil War" plot that's going on in Marvel; K and I are both deeply enjoying reading those comics, as well as some of the stuff before it -- House of M, the forming of the New Avengers, Secret War (which has some gorgeous artwork, even though I usually don't like the painterly style in comics), and the like. K remains a big Captain America fan, as he has for years, and I have to agree with his taste in a hero who stands for the American Ideal (tm) and who is, often, at odds with the American government because of it. He likes Nick Fury (agent of SHIELD!), too -- a patriot of a very different stripe. And we're both pretty fond of Spider-Man (who's as much of an everyman as a superhero can be, it seems) and Wolverine (who doesn't like Logan?).

Yeah, you could definitely say we're a Marvel household. :) Which isn't to say DC gets the boot, it's just that Marvel seems much more set in the real world than DC, and that's definitely a draw.

(Oh, and folks, if you haven't already, check out Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book by Gerard Jones. Very interesting historical stuff there and entertainingly written. Having read it, I cheered very loudly during the opening credits of Superman Returns when Shuster and Siegel's names came up... but it's not just about Superman and DC but the creation of comic books, costumed superheroes, and the geek subculture. An incredible read.)

Anyway, I'll note more logs as they become available (and, yes, I will be working on my GarouMUSH logs too, I promise!), so keep an eye out.

Amusing sidenote that reveals the quirks of Hazmat's mind: I was very interested in checking out Marvel's Ultimate line (the parallel reimagining of the universe, separate from normal Marvel canon) until I found out how they reinvented Doc Ock. That they made him younger is, okay, fine. That they made him some thin, athletic, fit, flat-stomached... grrf. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I prefer my Doc with a paunch, thankyouverymuch.

Stay tuned, True Believers. :)

6/30/06 11:25 pm - Up, Up, and... Away?

So, can any of you recommend a good superhero-themed MU*? Ideally, Marvel-themed (not just X-Men) and consent-based.

Thanks!

6/27/06 10:47 am - OK, we're still up.

Thanks to dial-up and Juno, we're still up and running here. Just... more slowly. I should still be able to MUSH and e-mail and all that good stuff, so hurrah. :}

6/24/06 01:11 pm - Upcoming Internet Access

I'm going to be losing Internet access at home from Tuesday June 27th until Friday July 7th, and with the new job, I don't have access (not even e-mail) at work, either. I'll try to check in at the local library when I can.

*sigh*
