Kaipo update
So, as I said earlier, my dad went to visit Kaipo today.

When he first got there, Kaipo was completely catatonic (dogatonic?) and didn't even look like himself. My dad, never one to give up easily, kept tying to play with him for about 20 minutes, when Kaipo finally snapped out of it and started wagging his tail and trying to get up.

Now, he still can't get up, but at least he's trying! My dad said he really "looked like himself" by the time he left and was still wagging. So there's the first step in a positive direction so far!

They're pretty sure now what he had was a stroke, accompanied by 4 seizures. The biggest thing that still needs to happen is he needs to be able to get up, so that's what we're all praying for right now.

Canticle of the Sun
The heavens are telling the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy!
Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field, and sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!

Kaipo
They're pretty sure it's a brain tumor.

He keeps having seizures. He is completely dazed and doesn't recognize my dad.

There are signs he's in extreme distress. There are signs of severe brain damage.

Even if we get him home, he'll never be the same dog again. Chances are, he won't regain bodily function.

I want to throw up.

Now, about last night.

Last night was WONDERFUL. I did some core training (crunches and such) and then I jogged for 15 minutes! Without a break! I was so proud of myself, and I felt excellent. Then, Paul came home and we went for a relaxing walk in the cool night air, then sat on the balcony and drank rum and cokes and talked about everything. Then we played some video games and curled up and went to bed, with the windows open a cool breeze wafting over us.

It was perfect. :D

Then I woke up when my mom called me about Kaipo. :(

I guess this failed to distract me.

Slightly more info
I posted an update to a few canine-related communities, both on LJ and Spark, and the text of it is below. It includes some updated information.

I also have a favor to ask. If you have a flist with people who know about animals, PLEASE spread it around! The biggest battle right now is not knowing what's wrong, and I just need to find that one person who has an idea the vet hasn't thought of!

Hi everyone.

Normally I'd post an intro, but I'm somewhat under emergency conditions right now.

My nearly-13-year-old golden retriever suddenly couldn't move last night. Whenever my dad went near him, he'd growl but he couldn't get up. Then, he started having frequent seizures. My dad took him to an emergency vet overnight and they hydrated him, but had no idea what was wrong. He has a high fever and has also lost control of his bodily functions. He is at his main vet right now, where they are keeping him and trying to figure out what's wrong.

So far, they've ruled out most toxins and infections. The leading theories are epilepsy or a brain tumor. I also found this article and told my dad about it, since that's what he eats and they just opened up a new bag. I figured an infestation was at least a possibility worth investigating.

He gets hematomas in his ear flaps every now and then, and he has some typical allergies and arthritis, but is otherwise in good health. Does anyone have any clue of other possibilities I could investigate or talk to the vet about? I'm kinda in a panic.
