Athrun x Cagalli colourbar
All right, this time it's an Athrun x Cagalli colourbar. Here it is...

Athrun x Cagalli is fairy tale love!

Why fairy tale love? This pairing screams "the prince and the princess" to me ever since I saw the Seed OP video of Cagalli "morphing" from her usual tomboy outfit (while standing behind Kira) to her Orb princess outfit (while standing behind Athrun). Athrun had pretty much given me a very "princely" feeling from the very beginning. He is rich and very polite in a gentlemen way from a powerful family (since Patrick Zala is quite an active member of the ZAFT council). He also uses "ue" as the suffix when addressing his parents. This is a suffix that members of a royal or noble family usually use to address someone older from their family. And Cagalli? It is obvious that she is the "princess" of Orb. But that's not the only reason. In the Seed novels, after Athrun and Cagalli part ways at the deserted island, he compares their encounter to Cinderella's encounter with her Prince Charming and then thinks of Cagalli as "Cinderella". (Ironically, Athrun lightly berates himself for having this thought because he knows Cagalli is not a princess, or so he thinks. ^_^) Basically, Athrun is choosing a commoner to be "his princess" over the "princess of Plant" whom he is engaged to. And it just so happens that the girl he chose is a princess as well, just a runaway one.

And then fast forward to the last page of the 2004 Seed calendar, where we get an image of Athrun and Cagalli in a winter setting. Cagalli is in her green "princess of Orb" dress again, no surprise there. But Athrun... wow... he looks so very nice in the "princely" outfit of his. (It's a new outfit too. He had never appear in any artbooks or magazines in this outfit before.) Cheryl's super sappy interpretation of this image: Cagalli is Athrun's princess just as Athrun is Cagalli's prince. This is the reason why I chose to use this particular image as the featured block in the centre. The rest of the blocks are pretty easy to figure out. Cagalli is reaching out for Athrun in the first block while Athrun is reaching out for Cagalli in the seventh block. The two infamous kiss scenes in the second and sixth blocks. And also, the two important gifts in the Athrun x Cagalli relationship: The mamori necklace given to Athrun by Cagalli and the ring given to Cagalli by Athrun.

Somewhat OT, not relating to the colourbar but to Destiny. Is it me or does it look like Athrun is staring at something in his hand in the Destiny ED? When I enlarged the screen capture I took of that scene and it somewhat looks like there is a circular object with a piece of string. Could it be the mamori necklace that he is looking at? :3

I know this is an old(ish) post, but I must ask your opinion on the whole Destiny drama that is unfolding. Bare in mind I don't read your spoilers for future eps. ^^;

But Destiny is turning out to be a GIANT political plot device to get Athrun and Cagalli apart and into the arms of THE WRONG PEOPLE!
It's like a huge global scandal to keep them apart and their wedding from ever taking place!

THIS IS THE *TRUE* PLOT OF GSD! How to keep Athrun and Cagalli apart to prolong the angst and drive the fans wild with anger!
I swear I will break that fake Lacus's fingers if she tries it on with Athrun OR turns her sights on Kira. *cracks knuckles*

One thing I found odd at the end of ep12 was the fact that Athrun choses to go back to PLANT and ZAFT without talking to Cagalli at all! What kind of fiancée is he damnit?! Yeah so maybe communications are jammed or the Earth is about to be squished but he just changed sides! So what about what Dillundal says! He's effectively changed sides, he's wearing a ZAFT uniform. BAD ATHRUN! BAD WORLD! *smacks all the coordinators and naturals* Why can't everyone be happy so Athrun and Cagalli can get married and have loads of babies?!

Then GSD could have been a shoujo-esque anime where they talk about feelings and love! *dances around*

No, seriously now... don't you think the political story has been nicely threaded to quite uncannily appear like one big fat plot device to get them apart? o.O

Personally, I think Destiny is ridiculous. It's like a badly written fanfic we see on FFN where doubles (Meer) and evil fiances (Yuuna) sprung out of nowhere. So I'm not making a comment on it until they give us more of a stable plot. I mean, guys, Shinn is our main character here! Does anyone still remember him? Shinn Asuka! The guy pilotting the Gundam I dubbed "Lego in Space"! (Seriously, Impulse is like playing with lego in space.)

As for Athrun and Cagalli, I think the producers are doing this (making it seem like they're breaking them apart) on purpose just to make us AxC fans squirm. So we'll all go back every week and watch it just to make sure it won't happen. (And it won't. Because breaking up their golden couple will be suicide to the Bandai's anime goods department.)
