........for one of the most beautiful and emotional memories of my life. I remember during this song (the video is from the second night, I was there on 7/21), how the shadow of a crane flew across the pale moon...

Shingetsu (New/Crescent Moon)
If I know your heart, the moon will come out tonight
And the moonlight will illuminate my ugly thoughts
Ah, touch my hair then go to sleep
Ah, touch the nape of my neck with love, with intensity
Sink in deeply
Floating in a fever, I awaken to you pushing up against me
Don’t run away, don’t cry
Why can’t I reach you? Why don’t you understand?
I want you to show me your smile tonight
I’m sorry, I’ll never go away again even if the rising sun kills me
Ah, this is happiness, it really is
Now close your eyes and I will love you even more deeply
So say goodnight
Your trembling fingers freeze, then dig into me
Don’t run away, don’t cry
Why can’t I reach you? Why don’t you understand?
The moon is blurred and you become distorted
Why can’t I reach you? Why can’t my wish be granted?
I want to see your smiling face when the night comes to an end
-translation by Lola-chan ♥, lyrics by Sakurai Atsushi, music by Tsuchiya Masami
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my muse always said, amor vincit omnia.
on this sultry night, many happinesses and sadnesses later, I know he is still right.
...........on a note even closer to home:
i have found something utterly haunting on youtube which has put me into tears for days.
but it is beautiful, even if lost.
Mal's BirThday Blowout- BasTille Day at MARY's
Jul. 11th, 2008 | 10:32 pm
music: indochine- mao boy (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Come out to Mary's, named LOGO's best gay dive bar in America and Out Magazine's Top 50 Gay Bars in the WORLD to celebrate my birthday!!!!!!!
Which coincides with Bastille Day, which means I will have champagne and cake and plenty of songs by the likes of louise attaque, noir desir, kip bambino, autour de lucie, vive la fete, poni hoax, indochine, dj cam, etc.......
hope to see you there! SOME SAMPLES:
here's some new poni hoax, a Barbes/ Marseilles bookworm rocker band which never stops to impress. So far the absolute best sax solo i've heard in 2008. Critics compare them to some amazing version of Roxy Music meets Sonic Youth. nonononono......far more clever? and i HATE clever music. they vary from electro to rockin' to folk to plain damn amazing Smog or Luke Haines-worthy turns of phrase.
"Merci pour le Alter Ego, c' est comme ca que je les aime..." --MISS KITTIN on Poni Hoax
"Their lead vocalist, Nicolas Ker tackles an ambitious and unique style that walks the thin line between a decadent Morrissey or an elegiac Jim Morrisson. This quizzical dandy with an exotic touch (born from French-Cambodian parents in Egypt)."-The Passion of Indie Music blog
i've been following them for years, as they were Nettwerk darlings, but...they are always beautiful...
Starcluster - Smoke & Mirrors ft. Marc Almond (promo mix)
Apr. 21st, 2008 | 07:25 pm
another song I can't stop listening to this late winter/spring...
mmm italian electro meets ultrasex. conjures PSB when they weren't overpriced or Depeche Mode circa 2081.
work keeps getting more insane. sucks to be in an independent contractor-supported business when fuel is sky high!
it was lovely to see y'all at Murrz last friday ♥
the warroom is finally closing :( but i snagged plenty of dorky miniatures and a hella lotta vallejo paint to make a mint while i can.
sunday we went to JAWS nursery to look at all their crazy rare evergreens and HUNDREDS of turtlez in a dark basement tank. creepy! strangely no children around >>
in case you have not guessed, i am a cancer baby, which means i have claws!a hard shell! and make a helluva rangoon. it also means - supposedly- i am sensitive and home-oriented.
this has been quite a week on the changing homefront, with
sakurakurakura moving out to a swank midtown flat across from the fox *_* (ironically, the first apt bldg i ever looked at in town), and
slumberjack and
astounded departing downtown for EAV. paul is going to be touring the hell out of the west coast and apparently the uk until late spring, so i think i will just become an apartment nomad and make more random visits to make up for being rather unsocial this past year. and we have plans to take/make art and dammit russia and berlin and poland still await.
Interestingly, I did get an offer to buy my hou', WHICH THEY CAN HAVE flip this house style :D so i can move back to midtown with my 5/6-figure profit and hate on Trump's monstrosity. we'll see if the investors bite. if not, i'll hold out as the 'hood is about to be declared historic or some shit. the city recently put in a bike path on the side road-- painting OVER the leaves & pine straw on the roadside. so it is a rather ...shaky guideline.
oh..re:Trump. the Donald has decided to plunk down one of his grossly phallic facilities very close to where I used to live, and directly across from one of my dream high-rises. Now I cannot live there because I refuse to have to look upon such an irresponsible waste of wealth, architecture, and resources(the design incorporates a 6 story waterfall. have i mentioned, ATL is in a water crisis/severe drought/running out of water?).
xmas is a blur, but all shopping is done thankgodforonlineshopping and i am trying not to peek at the box Miss L has for me in the library >>. i am looking forward to a quiet new years with her overlooking (literally) all the drunken fools in ATL and planning a few trips hither and thither. but first, WALK HARD 8D. im so glad to know someone shares my sense of stupid humor GREAT JOB!. although Atonement looks like one of those "mal must see in miserable february" movies. and its going to be hard to resist Alan Rickman AND sascha baron cohen in Sweeney Todd despite my dislike of HBC/JD/TB.
much love to
ladygrat for the card and
tigerpal for the gorgeous calendar *_* and special ♥ ♥ ♥ to you.~ kisses on escalators make them not so scary :D
i am not doing a good job of reading/keeping up with lj, so holla if i've accidentally ignored you.
RANDOM cards will be issued next week~ be prepared!
Zennubified
Dec. 12th, 2007 | 11:29 am
last night
sakurakurakura and i checked out the Zennubian teahouse in Castleberry...
it is a cool space to go and chill in, seating you on the floor amid neo-aZen furnishings. They have a juice bar and some vegan menu items and a slew of (durr) teas.
you get a little "amuse bouche" teacup with the tea of the day, and when they serve your pot, a little skewer of dried fruit is put into the cup to sweeten the drink (although the chem-mint toothpick flavour is not a pleasant taste :P). Honey is on the table as a sweetener, along with (for some reason?) bottles of italian sparkling water.
but $10 for a pot?! I haven't spent that much on a nonalcoholic quaff since seeing 1500 yen coffee in Aoyama. don't get me wrong, i lovvvvvvvvvve tea, and will pay,esp for something rare or unusual. but a lot of tea gets wasted here (i suspect) because even though you can re-infuse the leaves at least 2-3 times (more for oolongs & pu erh), they charge you $1 for water refills :X at least the food came in generous portions, although it wasn't as tasty as Cameli's vegan fare (how i miss that place!). for $6 i got the raw spring rolls, which were 4 big enchilada-sized lettuce wraps in rice paper stuffed with cuke, mango, and sprouts and covered in a cloying pomengranate-mango sauce that tasted like runny strawberry jam.
one of these days when im wondering what to spend my $ on whilst retired on the upper west side, i'd like to bring back to ATL what we've been missing since the fantabulous St. Agnes Tea Garden sadly shut its doors. it'd serve tibetan momo dumplings :6 and ridiculous Tokyo-envisioning-Paris style teacakes. and of course, we'd have peacocks. and polish chickens (up to 75 per the good city code).
have any ATL peeps been to No Mas? it looked awesome, with its courtyard and ceilings aglow in lanterns.
afterward, we went in search of Xmas lights and found the Tower of God annnnnd cyberbuck (my favourite piece of yard art EVER, a big mule-deer size effigy of a buck made of sticks and duct-tape) has a new red cellophane exterior 8O!!!
New Museum/Santa's Ghetto
Dec. 11th, 2007 | 01:36 am
music: qotsa: mosquito
last weekend the New Museum of Contemporary Art opened...i want to go just to see these restroom mosaics:
The bldg was designed by Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa (working as SANAA), and it appears to have the same sort of etherealness to its outer skin as their gorgeous Dior showplace on Omotesando (but probably not the same hot doormen >>)
still, it will be odd to see such a pure structure helixing over Prince & Bowery.
---------------
in other news, Santa's Ghetto, "probably the world's most low-concept art event" (wtf), has moved from Oxford to a former chicken shop just inside the 'security' wall in Bethlehem, across the street from the Church of the Nativity apparently. Artists this year include Souleiman Mansour, Banksy, Aiko, blu, 3D, eric the dog, and a slew of others. pics from the dividing wall are being updated mostly daily here.
sadly leaves are most beautiful when they are about to disappear.
but they will return with the blossoms, i know.
until then i'll wear their fallen colours like a brittle wing.
