Random notes. [Mar. 17th, 2008|09:21 am]
Last 2 weeks , I've been doing some tempo runs. My knee has not trouble me too much.
My runs feel good, legs feel strong, recovery times are shorter, it feels good overall.
Saturady , I ran 12 miles ,Sunday I ran 18 miles. Today is a rest Day. Gym and Core work out.
Last week I signed for the upcoming http://www.texasmarathon.com/TMhalf.htm
which I intend to qualify for Boston, and remain after this last Marathon doing some tempo/speed to raise my treshold.
1.6 years ago, I busted my knee (injury) by running way to fast without warming up.
Easy week, and back to coaching after Spring Brake.
Happy St. Patricks Day Everybody.

ATT Marathon # 7 *Lucky 7* [Feb. 18th, 2008|12:58 pm]
  Felt Great, Awesome, Fantastic!!!
legs felt like I ran a 10  a miler, absolutly, and I mean absolutly  'no wear & tear'; yesterday and today my quads ,and calf feel like again just ran a 10 miler....never ,ever felt like this before; most importantly my 'injury' , I think its gone , I'd like to think its gone...healed. I will let it 'rest'  anyways, and be ready for the next Marathon , my confidence that I can run without any injury has gone up a notch , and i should be ready for http://www.texasmarathon.com/TMmarathon.htm on April 6 , to run free without any 'reservations' . next goal 3:20 Hrs.

*Race Report to be posted soon...

Feb.05 [Feb. 5th, 2008|06:24 pm]

Today, was warm ,hot and humid. I coached my group at noon and ran 2 miles with them...It was so much FUN! and it felt good to feel the sweat, my left calf is Ok, not quite healed but bearable.
Since the weather was so gorgeous, a Marathon friend of mine called me 'let's run this afternoon', I said 'sweet! what time?'
We met at 3pm and ran 4.5 miles. Something about running 2X per day, that makes me feel good overall, I started to like it, and plan to do more of these 2X per day run.
ATT Marathon is only 12 days away, I feel uneasy about my 'injury' the plan is run it and not damage the injury, run it moderately.

slow run today...But GREAT! [Jan. 27th, 2008|06:18 pm]
This morning , I went to cheer on my friends at the finish line , they were running the 3M Half  Marathon. I was inspired by everyone!!
Lately, I've been struggling to run due to my injury, and lately  it has been a sore throath., feel weak, but inspired and moved!
decided to 'test my legs' ,and went for a 11.5 miles easy run, was struggling to breath, and coughing all along....
but at the end, I felt good in spirit, and stretch my legs, quads, etc. I feel great!!!
Not sure what to expect from this upcoming Marathon' what I want is to be able to finish well,  my injury to heal, and run 2 more....
I've learned as I get older , I need to stretch my elgs, which I never ,ever do...and never had gotten a sport massage or a massage of any kind either.

Another 'test run'..... [Jan. 25th, 2008|08:01 pm]

This past Thrusday went on a 4 miles run.....I am only running once a week, to prevent my unjury to flare up, and to let it heal.......I felt again a little 'something' on my left calf....something that was not right, something that it let's me know that ..'hey I am here not quite ready' ......I am 3 weeks out, and in all probability I will run it, and walk it if I have to.........I want to do 2 more after Austin.
God help me please.

Breakthrough.... [Jan. 17th, 2008|08:14 pm]

It has been 2 weeks that I have not done any running, last week I ran with my training group and felt a slight pain on my left calf. Today I ran with a couple of gals from my training group , the  pace was aerobic, steady, and finished the 4 miles fresh, without any issues.
This is the BEST RUN I had as a 'comeback', AWESOME!!
I Love my Training Group!!!!!

Humble Run/ Walk. [Dec. 31st, 2007|05:38 pm]
Yesterday, decided to go for a easy 8 miler.....quite to my surprised, shortly after 30 minutes, I felt a very acute pain on my left calf muscle, it felt very tight!! and I was humble to a walk.
Even after a hot shower and some stretching, still today, I can feel some 'damaged' , and hope its only a 'surface' pain, and not too deep damaged.

I've been struggling with my left leg over  a year and have been nursing my knee, and now my calf. 2008 is going to be a much better year, regardless of this discomfort.

Easy Run... [Dec. 30th, 2007|12:12 pm]

9 miles easy run yesterday afternoon....Gorgeous weather!!! My left knee injury started to bother me again...but managed to run with it. The funny thing is that on the short runs, it does bother me, on the previous 2 Marathons, it has bother me -gone away, and sometimes come back......not sure how to 'read my body'....
Jan. 1; is the 13 miler Runtex to Runtex Run....undecided still.....It will help me for this coming Sunday 50K endurance trail run in Bandera Tx.

Quick Holiday Update.... [Dec. 26th, 2007|12:52 pm]
It has been so nice to have some 'down time' from work , just to do nothing in general, I mean nothing work related.
so I decided to spend time doing what I love to do....

Saturday 22:
ran a 20 miler (marathon course with Gilbert Gazelles)

Sunday 23: ran an 11 miler on the Greenbelt trail run (2 hrs.) Unbelievable, at this rate it will take me 6 hrs. to run the upcoming 50K in Bandera Tx. on Jan. 6th. my legs were 'shot'  when I was done...although they felt much better and not too sore from the 20 miler run.

Monday 24: 40 mile bike ride....

Tuesday 25th: day off...I might go to the Gym to work out......moving S L O W  today...

Marathon # 6 [Dec. 14th, 2007|04:32 pm]

Dallas White Rock....
Chilly morning; decided to run for the experience with the 3:30 pacer....the plan was very simple, run until you legs blow up....First 8 miles was a gradual grade incline, and I stayed with the 3;20 pacer, my rate of perceived exertion was just a couple of heart bits over my threshold....However, I was able to scale back a few steps ,bring down my HR and reel the group on the hills....shorthly after mile 16, the wind was blowing hard, and I my body needed some calories to generate some body heat....I feast over 2 cliff bars, several oranges, water, gaterode and much more, I had an appetite, next 2 miles were still under 3:30 target goal, but after 19 miles,my quads started to feel the wear and tear...I was cold, and just wanted to end the marathon.
I finished in 3:55, not quite my goal, but it was a wonderful humble learning experinece.
My friend Ruben came from mexico and ran his 99th mrathon at 62 years young, he started to run at 52. This year alone he has run 16 marathons ,and this coming Sunday he will run his 100th marathon in Monterrey Mx.
I wanted sooo bad to run with him, he is an inspiration to me.
I might run a 'unofficial marathon', to join conmmemorate Ruben's marathon, I am thinking in doing the 10 mile loop 2X, followed by the 3 miles loop 2X in Town Lake.

On another note; tomorrow I am working with www.accelerade.com with www.austinfit.com group and sponsoring their 20K run...I might joing them also....

Hmmmm....sore legs.... [Dec. 6th, 2007|03:21 pm]
I have not run since the San Antonio Marathon  (about 3 weeks ago) decided to take 1 week off only, then shortly after it, I had a stomach bug that lasted for over a week, and left me weak and dehydrated; well This past Monday I decided to go for an easy run, then after a 10 minutes warm up, this fellow runner passed me, and he was running what I'd have consider a 'tempo pace' , I stayed right on his heels for over 5 miles or so...I felt my breathing a little labored, but comfortable-still decided to stay with him on his heels, and after 6 miles he turned around ....I figure we were running around 7 or 7:15 pace per mile. Last 2 miles I ran them as a recovery run....
That same night I ran 8 miles in 1:06.....
The next Morning on Tuesday I met some fellows at 5:45am and ran again, literally froze my hands!!!!
Well....my quads, my legs have been SORE, and today Thrusday , they are still sore... I hope I did not 'trashed them' and I can bounce back, and recover before this coming sunday; where I'll be running the Dallas Marathon, and planning to do a 3:30 or 3:20 .....
Somehow, in my delusional mind I still think I can run Austin in February in 3 hrs. or 2:59:59....
