and put on some loud indie when i get home

i love how the music is always around us, now
our home is full of happy tones

I love it when you have a vague craving for a certain taste/texture for yer dinner but aren't sure what to eat, and what you end up making gets it bang on the nose. Especially when it's something weird.
Rob was making himself pasta with a chickpea tomato chilli sauce, so I decided to yoink the rest of the can of chickpeas.
I had basmati rice, topped with silverbeet, chickpeas, onion and garlic all sauteed in butter and lots of pepper.
It was suprisingly delish! And healthy (well, the butter aside)
Lordy am I full now though urgh.

There's an article in the Age today that asks "Is a family rich with an income of $150,000 a year?" The family in the article say "well we don't think we are". They have 2 kids, can afford private (catholic) school and a nice big house albeit out in the burbs.
The article is talking about means testing things like the baby bonus and so on, and I personally think $150,000 a year - even as a combined income - makes you at the very least Very Well Off. Yes I also agree that current home prices mean even the best of incomes will disappear into the gaping maw of a mortgage, but that's unavoidable for all of us really. Some of us aren't even lucky enough to ever consider buying a home because of this.
And yet, in the article, the husband is quoted with this: "There doesn't seem to be any reward for people who have put the hard effort in," Mr Sciberras said.
Does he not for a moment think that all the hard work he's putting in, whatever the hell that may be, is rewarded with their $150,000 a year income?
I mean christ on a bike, what do people want?

I'm sure y'all have seen this before but it always bears re-posting for great justice.

Sometimes, the unexpected occurs, from the weirdest corners.
Oh and you can't buy nemirov vodka in australia at the moment ;_;
These things are not related.
My lunch was kind of gross.
I feel sad.

Things I have organised to get done over the next 2 weeks:
this week:
- dinner at home tonight with Dom & B (as a late birthday thing cos I missed his do)
- blood test tomorrow
- ultrasound on thursday morning
- council to do a hard rubbish pick up on saturday (hopefully anyway - damn need one)
next week:
- attending an ethernet workshop at AAPT Thursday morning - hay guys who still work there, come and say hi, I will be at Burnley st on Thursday morning attending a powertel ethernet sesh with someone called Michael Lopes (nfi who he is).
- real estate inspection on friday morning ugh ugh ugh. BUT! I am not going to let it get to me like I did last year. The place has been kept on top of recently (I had a bit of a cleaningsplosion on the weekend, as luck would have it) and I have almost 2 weeks to spend each evening doing a little chore here and there, til the place is decent. We've luckily only just properly organised the music room, and the dining table's been restored to it's tably self. So I think it'll be ok this year unlike last year's depressed, miserable disaster :/

Oh yeah! Reminder for anyone who hasn't seen it before: Flight of the Conchords starts tonight on Ch10 at 10pm. I highly, highly recommend it, it is an awesomely funny show. Think if Tripod were new zealanders and went to new york. Only more dorky and better musicians. Somethin' like that. It has an air The Office's awkwardness in it's comedy. But thats what I love about it.
I'm sorry, I dont think Dire Straits are all that cheesy really! I was just keeeding ;_;
Booh :(
Booh :(
- Mood:whoops
Man, these guys sound incredibly bizarre and engaging through headphones where you can hear every little bit.

Man, hardly anyone's been in the office all week, being sick in waves that seem to come and go so we've been running on something of a skeleton staff for a while now. Quiet in here.
Yesterday I was in Mag Nation looking for something for Rob (which I later realised wasn't an obcure paper at all, but oh well). They were playing Blonde Redhead of all things. And when one particular song came on (I forget its title, it mightve been "Dr Stangeluv" but I'm not sure) I was washed over with this sinkysad feeling just from hearing it.
I think I firmly associate it with last winter. What a horrible, sick, unfortunate time that was. Sad when music gets ruined because of crappy times.

If kisses and mellotrons aren't the best way to start a day then I don't know what is.
Awesome new albums for anyone not paying attention:
Portishead - Third
Now I've never been a huge Portishead fan, I always found their music kind of depressingly english somehow. No I cant explain it either. Anyway - this new album is incredible. It is so dark and twisted and fucked up and all over the place in a really controlled way. Unexpected guitar stabs and sudden stops and just... weirdness. And if it were possible for her voice to sound even more strained and odd than it ever has, well - it does here.
NIN - The Slip
MHmm.. well, its NIN by numbers really - we think it might be outtakes from the witha teetha sessions (how else has he come up with it so fast!?) but it has good moments, and the last ambient track is brilliant.
Junius - ST
Not sure how "new" this is but omg, amazing album. New wave post rock. I dont know how else to describe it. It's like Robert Smith jamming with 65dos or Slint or something. Many thanks to Rob for bringing it to my attention.
M83 - Saturdays = Youth
I need togive this more of a listen. The immediate impact was Kate Bush meets Cocteaus meets 80s new wave pop. I was way suprised.
EDIT: oh man, this is so good. Tears for Fears is another touchpoint. "Kim and Jessie" is lucious. I love this.

Rob and I often come up with songs we're gonna do as shoegazey/nuwavey covers.
I think I would like to do a nice shoegazetronic version of "Out of Time" by Hall and Oates.
Yes I am serious. Stop laughing H.

In gaming news: SimCity Societies.... WHYYYYYYYY? *sob sob*. EA I hate you.
Helmet were pretty damn tight and awesome. Amazing to think I last saw them almost 15 years ago and they're still as good as they were then.
The support band Lady Strangelove were freaking awesome - psyedelic freakout jams mixed with Black Sabbath-ish singing... mental guitarist doing leaps and climing on speaker stacks... awesome shit. Must catch them again some time if they're in town.
Venue was such a sausage-fest though. Heh.
