Watching the Republican convention speech's (esp. Rudy Giuliani) makes me want to hit my head against the wall repeatedly. I've never seen so many instances of them talking out their asses. I feel like I am watching the episode of family guy where Lois runs for mayor

"Terrorists!"
"9/11"

So we had a wedding to go to on Saturday, a friend of Jessica's that she used to work with. The past few weddings I have been to have flat out sucked to the point where I felt bored to tears. This time around, it really wasn't that bad. It was still a pretty standard wedding, but the girl, Sara, apparently likes to party because once they got the music going, she was having a ball. The best way I can describe her dancing style would be of Tracey Turnblad from Hairspray. It helped liven up what is normally the dead time of a wedding. Jessica got totally hammered during the wedding, and I'm not sure if she stopped talking at all when we were driving home, but she was gorgeous, so I let it slide :). Last night we went to dinner at Brennen's, which I don't have very fond memories of, as I've only gone there under the bar scene, and it is not situated to be a good bar, the lack of openness makes it incredibly crowded, and impossible to carry on a conversation with more then one person, as you usually have to shout in their ears. Last night, it was much quieter, and quite nice. Jess got a club sandwich, and I got a really delicious turkey pretzel sandwich. What made this sandwich unique, is the bread is called pretzel bread, and it was amazing. We also ordered an appetizer which was a baked cheese and artichoke dip and that was great as well. It also made me feel better that the dressing for the sandwich was on the side, so rather then using it, I just slapped some of the left over dip on the sandwich. It was a refreshing change from the places that have had very substandard food lately. I had noticed on the place mat that there was also Coles listed along with Brennans, which made sense because Coles was one of the best places we have eaten in 2008 so far. We went around the beginning of the year, and their beer selection was great, the service was well above average, and the food was good. We even forgot our food at the table and despite having to walk almost half a mile back knowing that the food was long gone, it was waiting for us when we went in, which was amazing. So I would strongly recommend those places. Regardless, we are still wanting to find a local place that we can call our own that is more local then having to drive 20 minutes to get to Brennens, or further to get the Coles.

So, I promise that not every entry will be about running now, but I had to share something from tonight. I ran farr too late for my own good, didn't get out til almost 8pm because I went to BJ's after work. My main goal right now is to increase my mile per minute times in anticipation of our next 5K (which appears it will be September 20th). When we did our one last weekend, it seemed like the best runners did their 5K (3.1 miles) between 19 and 22 minutes, which is between 6.12 and 7.09 minutes per mile. I did 12.02, which is like twice as worse. So tonight I tried pushing myself more, but only got 2.3 miles in because of the darkness that was all around me now. I did it in 22.04 minutes, which comes out to 9.58 miles per minute. I know that I was still .8 miles from the full run but it made me feel good :) OK, enough with the running talk, I swear!!

On another note, while I was in BJ's they started to play that big single that Clay Aiken had, and it made me realize that it is probably the only song in history that is both cheesy, and creepy at the same time.

So the route that Jess had me run on Thursday to prepare for the 5K was really nice, so I've decided to make it my normal running route. It is nice because I can dictate when I want to stop, and not have to worry about walking a mile or two to get back if I am done. The 3 laps that we did constituted 3.4 miles, so that is basically what I am aiming for when I run, which hopefully, will be every other day. I was able to do it OK today (though my legs are reallly tight lol). I ran it unofficially on 38 minutes, which came out to 11.17 minutes per mile. My goal for our next run it to be under 11 minutes, so this is a good start. I am thinking of actually timing it for real to get a better idea of what my actual times are. One think that is nice is that Jess showed me a schedule for training for a marathon, and it states to get a minimum of 3 miles almost every day, which it looks like I can do already. I am in no hurry, but it would kinda be nice if I could realistically see myself running in the 2010 Buffalo Marathon. Even if I finish last. Lol.

So we completed our first 5K this morning. I completed mine (3.1 miles) in 37 minutes and 27 seconds, which comes out to 12.02 miles per minutes. I wanted to be in the 11 minute range, but Jess wanted me with her most of the time but I never stopped jogging, which was nice. The race itself was very scenic as I spent a good chunk of time on the bike path of the UB north campus (Rape free since 2006!!) Jess ran in 41 minutes and 4 seconds, which is good also, and I am very proud of her for doing this. There was an after party thing which they gave away medals for the top finishers in each of the age brackets (we didn't win anything, considering I came in 117th and she came in 125th lol) and then they did door prizes. We actually did win a door prize, a 30 dollar gift certificate to something called road ID which is stuff to ID yourself in case you get hit running or something. We had a very good time, they had donuts and lunch afterwords and I grabbed a bunch of "soy joy" bars on the way out because, well, they were free, lol. Another funny thing is that I needed to use the bathroom prior to the place, and went into the Ramada hotel the race was at, and the women very curtly told me there was a bathroom for the racers out back. So we went out back and they had a trailer for the bathrooms and I am thinking, "oh great, a glorified port-a-potty." I went in, and this thing put our bathroom to shame. It was freakin glamorous. They had urinals, a wooden door for the toilet stall, a full working sink, music playing, artwork in the walls, I was totally impressed. I was apprehensive, didn't know what to expect, but had a great time. I'm sure I'll be let down at the next one. Also, the vacation was good, despite the house we rented having some rather large character flaws (annoying connected bathroom, no curtains anywhere, which meant sun in my eyes at 630am, and long glares on the TV). We were able to do a lot of stuff, while still having a lot of downtime. We spent a day in Ithaca (the San Francisco of the northeast), checking out a reallly nice farmers market, some waterfalls, a really cool "treehouse," which is like a grown up playground in the woods, plus I had walked up to a deer in a field while we were there, and got within 6 feet of it, til Jessica came along ;p We also spent a day in Watkins Glen state park, and another out on a boat on Seneca Lake, which Jessica got a really bad sunburn. I also played a lot of my neglected Wii, which of course, I haven't touched since we got back. All in all it was a good time, but tough to compare to recent trips to Key West and Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. The distance was nice though, a little over 2 hours away.

I had bought several of these things called space bags for storing our winter clothes and blankets, ect. They work by vacuuming the air out to make it scruntch up smaller to create more space to store things. I placed them under the bed. Tonight after a nice night out, I find out that all of them are no longer deflated. I drag them out and test them, and everyone has a hole in them. Along with black hair. I am furious. I, not very easily, get Smeagle into the room and yell at her. Little fucker's very lucky she has claws right now..... Needless to say the moment she gets even close to plastic from now on she will be yelled at. Un-fucking believable.

Writing from the vacation home while we have the internet. There was no wireless, so we got something that let's you use the internet from your phone. We are working on getting Wifi from other houses here. The house is nice. It is us, her parent's, her brother Ben and his gf and her other brother dennis and his family. Everything going good so far, went to a really nice farmers market in Ithica yesterday. The weather has been bad as usual. Rain every day so far. Ben's GF is a psycho, which makes things very interesting. This morning she blew up because she wanted to go to some womans right's mueseum, apparently right when it opened, and when Jess' mom asked him to make a phone call, she started complaining. Shes already slammed doors twice. Oh yes, and this was our 2nd full day here, so we have all week lol. I'll keep everyone updated!

This has been a flat out miserable summer weatherwise. We have been lucky in the fact that it has been several years since we've had a summer like this. Tonight we decided to go to the fair instead of tomorrow, because it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. All day today it was relatively rain free. We get to the fair and all is good at the start, and less then half an hour in, and the nastiest rain clouds come rolling in. Go figure right? Within 15 minutes, it starts to pour. We eventually find refuse in a building that has actual newpapers from all of the biggest headlines from the 20th and 21st century, which is pretty neat, but still drags a bit. We go out, the rain has mostly stopped just long enough to play a few games before it starts to pour again, and this time it doesn't really stop. So we decide to trudge through it to get to our car. If there is one thing that I hate as much as snow, it's rain. I get miserable when it raining on me, because I get soaking wet, cold and crap. I hate being in it, and I just want to get out of it. We were both soaking wet when we got to the car. On top of that, neither one of us has waterproofed our new shoes yet so we are the epitome of soaked by the time we get there. This really irritated me. There is nothing I look forward to more during the summer then the fair, but what could we do? Go when it was nice and then get dumped on almost the whole time, or risk it on a day where it is supposed to be raining all day long. It's defin been a down summer so far. I hope our vacation is better, but of course the forecast is rain all week. The fair wasn't a total bummer though, there was good stuff we got to see an entertaining monkey show and watch monkeys ride dogs before it rained. We both won at I got it, and I got the guy at the dunk tank twice. Regardless it sucks knowing that the fair for us is already over and there was so much we didn't get to do. 365 days til next year....

I don't really talk about my job much on LJ, mostly because it's a job and not too exciting as far as I am concerned, but I feel like chatting about it tonight. Charlotte, NC is our most likely destination when the time comes to move, and while it is the 2nd largest banking city in the US, I would really like to stay with HSBC in some capacity. Right now, we do not have any presence in North Carolina, nor Kentucky, and the closest they get is Northern Virginia. It's also hard to tap into the Charlotte market, because that is where Bank of America's headquarters are located. Right now, I am still learning first mortgage, but my boss feels that I have enough knowledge to be logged into our systems for any inbound calls ;p I personally would rather not do this until I get my lending authority but whatever. I am really hoping that I have the opportunity to become a loan officer at the time that we move, be it with HSBC or another bank. When Jessica graduates, I have been with the bank for 5 years, and with the mortgage corp 4 years. I have two more years to get the knowledge I had with the home equity side which should be more then enough. I want our future to be now, but i am hoping since we have 2 more years in Buffalo we can prepare ourselves as much as possible in the meantime. I love you honey.

After I accidently ran 4 miles on Tuesday after a month off from running, it hurt badd.. I could barely walk down stairs. I felt a little better today and went out and did 2 miles, and even stretched my hamstrings before and after running. They are soo tight now, it hurts to just walk normally. Yoww!! The good news is that we are a week away from the Erie County Fair and then going on vacation!! I seriously love going on vacation now, considering the last time I did it prior to meeting Jess was when I was probably 12 years old.

So the movie marathon night came and went. We saw Stepbrothers, Wanted, and Wall-E. Jessica was excited to come and share in my tradition (3rd year in a row now), but after we went from the first movie to the 2nd, she was visibly upset, and wanted to write a letter to the movie theatre to confess and apologize. I reminded her that was probably not a good idea, but she stuck through it. This is likely her last one though, women and their morals, yeesh :) She scoffed at my trips to the bathroom between movies, and my leaving a few munites, they had 6 or 7 workers hanging outside of Wall E. Wall E was amazing and Wanted was very good. Stepbrothers was unfortunately very disappointing.

This morning, I went running for the first time since we moved. I still don't have a true route plan and I accidentely ran 4 miles. Yeah, my legs feel like jelly.

How nice, the Chinese are trying to cheat at the very Olympic games that they are hosting. Perhaps they thought that nobody would notice through all that smog?? Whoever thought that giving China the games wasa good idea, is smoking crack.

and of course, lots of these

I have already used the blades, and am setting up the dartboard, and ate a bag of beef jerky. I also ordered 7 pounds of candy, the type you get in vending machines. I've eaten too much of that too. We are going bowling tonight, which I haven't done in a while. Unfortunately, with the eating of Beef Jerky and 7 pounds of candy, I need to lose a lil weight before our vacation hits. Nowhere exotic this year unfortunately, but the family is renting a cottage on the lake in Ithaca, so we get a week down there come August. It seems like everyone except for us is going to Hawaii this year :( But I suppose there will be other opportunities

Just got back from seeing the movie American Teen. Very interesting. It was nice because it was free, but it was good too, even though it was clearly edited a certain way. It helped invoke some good discussions on the ride home. We did the obligatory "who were you like," Jess said if anyone like the Hannah girl. I don't think we ever got to me, lol. Unfortunatly, I wasn't like any of the kids they featured. I was more like all those boring old ones that weren't interesting enough to be taped. This is a big movie week for us in general. Along with The Dark Knight on Sunday, on Saturday we have our movie marathon. This has become my annual tradition. Wall-E and Step brothers are the definite, and we are still working on the third. I won't know more really until we get closer, because I have to time it so that when one of the movies ends, another is beginning, because technically, we are seeing 3 movies for the price of one.

Just got back from seeing the Dark Knight. Flat out amazing movie. Unreal in it's ability to be anything but a super hero movie. Heath Ledger does a bang up job, but does not deserve an oscar. He deserves it more then Denzel Washington in American Gangster however. A bit off topic, but I saw that movie, and have never seen a more mailed in performance then that of Washington's, and everyone was screaming Oscar for him, however Russell Crowe did an outstanding job, but nobody seemed to care. Back to the movie. Acting was very good all around, though the beginning was forced, and 10 minutes could have been shaved off. The music in the movie was far and away the best part of the movie. If anything deserves an oscar, it is the score, it was brilliant. We have a lot more movies to see soon, and nest saturday is my movie marathon day, and Jess is coming to see it with me. That said, it is date night tonight, and we are about to go fulfill our "dinner" portion. Tony Rome's style. Peace out!!

So I came home for lunch today and what is waiting for me in the mail?! Why 13 coupons for a free 20oz Coke Zero of course! How might you ask? Cause I am a slick dealer! woot!! That was a nice little surprise. Oh, and tonight we are going to our first Bison's game of the season. Jess has never been to a Fridaynightbash, so this will be her first (my 2nd). I remember from last year that it took them forever to get the damn fireworks going, so I might bring something to keep us occupied after the game.

So we just got back from canal fest shortly, and boy did we clean up. 30 dollars later, we won 6 goldfish (which were converted into 2 medium goldfish), 5 glass cups, including 4 small Kahlua cocktail glasses as well as a little dolphin/candle holder combo. Sure we spent a lot on what we walked out of with, but we just kept winning! lol. The people watching was intense to say the least. It appeared that the entire Tonawanda High School was there, and it appeared that at least half the girls were either pregnant, or had very misleading beer bellies, and that all of the boys were born a poor black child, and they all remember the days, sittin' on the porch with their family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi. I got to do all the things that endear Canal fest to me, including the goldfish pingpong ball game, the toss a dime into a cup and win it game, the release a mouse and bet on what hole it runs in game, the drop a quarter down the slot and watch it being pushed forward and hope you win more of them game, and of course the guess which pregnant teenager is due the soonest game. You could win extra points if you successfully guessed whether or not the father was going to stick around.

So when we purchased the shiny new mattress from that Rosa's outlet store, of course I was skeptical about how much of a deal we got, because you know their "compare to" prices are grossly inflated. My fears were a bit calmed when they happened to have the mattress we bought on sale in the paper this week. The sale price was almost double what we paid for it, so that made me happy :) A funny thing happened last week. When we were at my parent's 4th of July party, I had mentioned to my mom that we were going to need to get the cats a new climber soon, because they've clawed the shit out of this one. So she said "do you want me to get you one for your birthday," to which I promptly replied, "hell no, I want something for me, not them :p We are thinking of hitting up canalfest tonight. It was really crappy this morning, but got much nicer. I have the house to myself right now, so I am straightening, because Jess is at a Bridal shower. I goaded her a bit, reminding her that she's leaving me on my birthday, lol, but I love her and of course hope she is having a good time.

So we just got back from the taste of Buffalo, and had a very nice time. On the way there, we witnessed a car accident. We were driving down Union, and heard a screeching noise, and them a crunching sound. Someone rear ended someone else. We looked back in enough time to see that one car wsa far to close to another so that's who did it. Pretty scary in a "gee that could have happened to us" sorta way. I don't know if it was because we came on a Saturday rather then a Sunday, but there wasn't as many people as in prior years, and there didn't seem to be as many vendors. But we still had some good food. I got a tenderloin slider sandwich, corn and black bean salad, along with some other stuff, and Jess got a spinach cannolli along with her wine slushy and other things. We didn't spend nearly as much money as last year and ended up buying a lot of drinks on the way out lol. Also, as we were leaving, we met Bobby from this season's Hell's Kitchen show. We are big fans of it, so it was pretty cool. Jess was joking that I was greeting him like we were old friends or something.

I have a chest cold. In the middle of summer. WTF. On the weekend of course. Whatever. Jessica's parents are up for the weekend. We are doing the taste of Buffalo today ,and then my mom is coming over tonight for a kind of a birthday dinner thing. 26. I think I was 19 when I started this thing. Carazy. Tomorrow Jess has a wedding shower to go to, but later on we might head to canal fest for a little people watching. A low key bday. You get older and obviously it loses a bit of that "omfg its my super special day" thing. I will prolly invite someone people over to hang out soon, but not this weekend. Maybe next saturday. This summer is flying by. Growing up kinda makes summer lose some significance as well. Its more like, well I've got to go work, and we have family engagements on the weekend, and before you know it, August is here. We still haven't seem any live music yet. There are some good free shows coming up that we will try to get to. TATS still has candlebox, gin blossoms and saliva coming. As long as I get to go to saliva, I'll be content. Molson concert series apparently has a band that is the Doors with Brett Scallions as the lead singer. Cannot wait for that. Time to go eat, later.
