Hair. So much hair. [27 Mar 2008|06:15pm]

Hello all!

Things are good and…er..stuff. I’m at my last week at the Beeb for 2 months, if all goes to plan. I say that as come April 14th, we should hopefully be all at our independent company placements, if Cyfle can find somewhere for us to go and be appreciated. Not as a 2 month tea/photocopying lady. We come back to the BBC for our remaining 4 months after that, placed somewhere new. *crosses fingers* C’mooooon motion graphics…

Although, the main reason I wanted to update this journal was to tell you a story about my hair.

A story so thrilling, so GOD DAMN EXCITING, that it’s akin to an orgasm. )

SEXELLENCE. [05 Mar 2008|02:50pm]

[ music | A White Rabbits song stuck in my head ]

Oh, hey internet people.

Again, I have some quiet time at work, so i thought i would pay a little visit to the neglected livejournal 'Post an Entry' screen. It occurs to me that i should post more often, and discuss the scraps of excitement in my life, rather than epic posts, 3 times a year. I may try to attempt that in the future. No promises or anything. Not that's anybody's reading, but more for some good ol' internet posterity. I looked back at my first entries recently, and it was kind of nice to reminisce over what was happening in my life at that time.

So, yes. Stuff. Things at the Beeb are going well and i learned today that in just over a month's time, i'll be spending 2 months at an independent company. I'm really looking forward to that, as i'm an arsty-farty creative at heart. Well, essentially, everyone is, but it'll be good to work in that environment.

Cardiff stuff is going okay. I've started bellydancing and loving it so far, even if i have the flexibility of a plank of wood. Incased in stone. Which in turn, is embedded into the side of a cliff. My plan to keep up jogging has sort of...failed. But only because i've been spending weeknights working on my film! Yes. I'll get fat, but i'll have another film made.

I've been home to see uni pals which was awesome. Even if one of them was ill (poor Joel). This weekend however, something sexy is going down. TEAM SEXY to be exact. Me and Mike are staying over at Crackin' Claudes with Bitchin' Ben for a weekend of sexellence. I realise that this makes it sounds like an orgy will take place. Let us see where the weekend will take us!

Toodle pip!

P.S. I purchased a Flickr Pro Account. Finally. Go see my photos from Paris!

Another sporadic update [14 Jan 2008|03:17pm]
[ mood | hopeful ]
[ music | The synchronised hum of computer fans ]

Hello, hello, hello.

It's 2008! How scary. I've got some downtime at work, due to waiting for Torchwood related things to be updated, so I thought i'd give this much abandoned blog some attention. And a cookie. And a bit of a stroke around the ear.

Things have been okay. Christmas was very christmassy and new years was very new yearsy. I was back in Brum for Christmas, which was nice. For the first few days. Then it got a bit tiring, being around family constantly. I think the summer has maxed my tolerance for being around the Ashman clan fulltime. The day of crimbo itself was great, but bless my poor mum...she was diseased with flu. So we all helped and whatnot. An incredibly awesome highlight of the day was getting my shiny new SLR. It is a sexy, sexy beast of a camera. Take a gander at some of my first tentative photos at my Flickr. I'm paying for half of it, but it's all for the greater good (read: my film).

I came back to Cardiff for New Years, which was spent boogie-ing at Clwb Ifor Bach (or the Welsh Club) with Mike, Farrah, her flatmate Meg and thier friends. Fun was had and alcohol was consumed.

It was my birthday too! So, yes, i came back to Birmingham (lots of travelling) for that to spend it with friends and family. I recieved some shiny things. Cute t-shirts, DVD's and essential items. Oh, yeah and a WEEKEND IN FREAKIN' PARIS FROM MIKE! Squee! February 1st shall see me floating around Paris, trying to look fabulous, like the female lead out of a 1960's New Wave film. My birthday night was lovely, except for the Claudia shaped spaced next to me on the dance floor and next to the bar. She is going through some tough times, so I toasted to her and good times with her. This also made me feel a bit mature for toasting someone.

Work is going okay. It's nervewracking not knowing what i'll be doing week-by-week, but pretty interesting too. I've made the realisation that I have to make the most of my remaining 9 months here (and in my external company), sucking all of it's juicy BBC work experience goodness out until it's a disgusting, lifeless husk of a corporation. Or something. I should be grateful i'm here at all really.

I can't actually talk about what i'm doing here, due to confidentiality and all that jazz, but think of a web assistant/production assistant on the Torchwood website and what that might involve. There's a bit of an office dynamic happening around here, which is all new too. Three weeks at ReactFast doesn't really count (that's not what my CV will say though..HOOHAH!). I even went to an office christmas do. How scarily mature. Then again, office crimbo do's as a level of maturity? Grow up, Jess!

I'm rambling now. Anyway, yes. 2008. My goals for this year will be along the lines of these:

  • Make the most of my placements, make contacts and learn.
  • Make another film, no matter how shite it turns out due to lack of resources and money.
  • Not get fat. My vortex like metabolism is obviously buckling under the pressure of fattening fancy pants cheeses and too much booze (Curse you, Mike). My exercise regime? Bellydancing and jogging. Aw yeah.
  • Save the fuck up. This is the first time i have something that resembles a salary, and September could be a haaaarsh time.

    And finally

  • BE CREATIVE. In any way possible. Be it drawing, painting again or forcing my camera in peoples faces.

Hmmm..i think that'll do. This year shall be an interesting one. Let's see what happens!

P.S. I've also moved into a new flat. It is slopey and tiny but i think it's loveably peculiar. Well, that's how i'm trying to approach it.

Should I start putting Subjects here? Yes, I think I will! [07 Oct 2007|06:37pm]

    Hello.

It's been a few months, and erm...a good lot has happened. I figure with me embarking in something quite new in my life (which shall be explained later...mysterious!), it would be a good time to update this, and for once, endeavor to keep it updated.

Anyway, first things first, i'm in Cardiff! For a year! Training with the BBC! Exclamation mark! In July I applied for a training placement with a fantastic company called Cyfle. It's pronounced Cuv-leh, which is Welsh for 'opportunity' - hence the 'living in Cardiff' thing. I didn't think I would get it, being an animation student and all, but one application form and one interview later, i got it! This training placement is a new entrant scheme into the media industry, as a Multi-Platform Production Assistant. Yes, I know that the title is a bit vague but basically it means a production assistant on different platforms of new media, such as web design, video production and editing. This is all happening at Cyfle's base first, and then with BBC Wales for 8 months, and 2 months with an external company. Unfortunately (and admittedly, which made me doubt choosing the placement) i won't be animating, but I figure that this is a brilliant time to find myself and explore other avenues. Also...it's paid. Working in a media field for a year and animating on the side (which i fully intend to do) is a lot better than working an office job for a year and being too tired to animate when i get back home from work.

So yes, that is a Big Thing in my life right now. Another very big thing, is that i've split up with Isaac. It's not right to go into details on here but it has made for a very different summer. We've decided to give each other space for a few months, as it was hard to stay friends. I hope we can re-kindle a friendship in the near future, as he's someone i regard as important in my life.

Another thing, relationship wise, is that i'm dating a new fellow, Mike. In fact, i'm using his laptop. To be honest, i don't like going into too much detail over my personal life, but it's going good. It's all very new and exciting.

Before aaaaaaall of the Cyfle stuff and whatnot, my summer was quite depressing. Searching for jobs and being stuck around my family, with no room to breathe didn't make a happy me. Strangely enough, I found a job RIGHT AT THE FREAKIN' END OF THE SUMMER, before i was to move to Wales. This was a Business Assistant (read: secretary/administrator/receptionist) job at a place called ReactFast. They kindly took me on for the remaining 3 weeks i'd be in Brum, so i made a bit of much needed moolah. It was an...interesting office job. They threw me in at the deep end, so days were very busy, but the people i worked with were lovely. So it's all good.

Erm...what else. Oh yes, I graduated!

Here are some shiny photos with friends )
It was a fun day. Surprisingly so, because i thought it might be a bit pants. But it was ace, doffing my cap and all that business. Myself and my parents stayed the night before and left after the ceremony. So, officially, i am a Bachelor of Arts! Also, Lincoln sent me a 20 squids worth of Waterstones vouchers, and a certificate stating me as 'The Best Student in Animation'..which was strange and unexpected, but nice of them.

Yessss..i'm sure there is more to be said but my arse is numb and that ain't good. I will try super hard to keep this updated with events to do with my placement and life in general. Now for some tea, i think.

    Hello!

(Before I ramble, my film and showreel is finally ONLINE!. Now you can see what i've been doing for the past year.)

There has been too, too much happening in my life to re-cap here, some being too personal to tell the world wide interwebs about. However, right now, internet friends, it's slowed to a bit of a sludge. I think going back home does that to a person. Or maybe it's just me.

Anyhoo, one big thing which has happened. I recieved that little bit of paper with my university mark back. It quietly stated, in little bold letters...first class honours! I'm quite happy about that. Of course, the realist in me knows that it'll take far more than those words and a certificate to fufill a directing career. So this is where the hard work and real life begins. It's simultaneously exciting, terifying, depressing and uplifting. Being uncertain in every part of my life is all a bit strange, especially considering my control freak-like tendancies.

The degree show came and went. I think they were a success! Especially the London one. Working with the professionals at the Curzon was great. If all else fails in my life, I will open a cinema which is as interesting and eclectic as the Curzon, Soho. We had a bit of an industry turn out for that one, which turned out to be a fantastic evening for my good friend Kayum. Please check out his work and be awed. Awed, i say!

Now I am looking for two things. A part-time job which will pay money (I am penniless) and work experience/runner/production assistant anywhere where I have a contact who'll put me up. I've also decided that I can't put on hold my creative urges, so i'm aiming to come up with something for Depict! this summer too. Oh, and i've volunteered my spare time at Brum's Festival of Xtreme Building. It look's like an incredibly interesting thing to be part of and I get a chance to get my hands nice' n dirty and covered in art type experience!

I will now continue with the eternal career related job search to the sounds of Fujiya and Miyagi. And possibly make a sandwich. Don't you just love knowing pointless points about my day?

    Toodle pippery.

EDIT: I apologise for the dodgy coding of my site. Try looking at it in 'full screen' mode. If you could give me a shout if the animation page i've linked to is a bit dodgy, that'd be great. Boo for my amateurish coding skills.

HOLY MOTHER OF INTERNET DOSSERY! An update!

You can probably guess as to why. My degree has officially finished! Thursday May 3rd saw me handing in sketchbooks, storyboards, scripts, timetables, treatments, concept paintings, set and character blue prints, group work, an animatic, a showreel, a CV, 2 evaluations and my final year film, 'The Seeds of Change'. The last point means nothing, because i'm going to work on this film till i think it's worthy of festival submission and/or kicked out my studio. But, officially, i've finished three years of education in zee ways of animation. It's strange, and slightly werid because i'm not working for tutors or marking systems anymore, but myself and towards the prospect of a job. Eep. Also, there's the little fact i'll soon no longer be a student which is pretty scary.

So, yes. I kinda wish i updated this journal with the trials and tribulations of the last few months of my degree, but looking back, there would have been a lot of whinging and bitching and self-pitying malarky and well, no-one wants to see THAT. Instead, i will talk of other things. This is where i look into the distance wistfully, my hand cupping my eyes from the bright glare which is..THE FUTURE. Which is actually a bit dull. After finishing my film, (and finding a summer job) i'll be concentrating on getting this degree show sorted. I am dreading the task of having to put everybodys work together (and pitying the computer which has to try and handle it), on what will be the most epic of Adobe Premiere editing timelines. We are planning to advertise it soon, so you'll most likely hear about it on here. In fact...

Mysterious LJ cuts to something. )

I'm trying to think of any significant news that has occured since January but...events are far and few between! I was graced with the company of The Honourable Claud of Cardiffshire in April for an awesome weekend. There are pictures documenting this, but they're on Facebook and i'm a bit lazy. I also saw my lil' sis off to the sunny shores of Mexico for her gap year. That was kind of sad, but from her LJ reports, it sounds like she's been having the time of her life, and that is good. Isaac was seen multiple times and (shock, horror) he dragged his high n' mighty arse down to the pits of Hull.

Oh wait, something has happened over the past few months. Something horrible and twisted. I've slowly becoming addicted to shopping. To be fair, my cheap-ass thrifty self is only really picking up sale items, but there seems to be a never-ending scout for them. It's relentless! I place my blame solely on [info]thehighstreet. If only there were some good musical releases out soon, to distract me from fashion. HOLD THE PHONE! BJORK'S NEW ALBUM IS COMING MAY 7TH! It will be amazing, and i will watch her play Glasto on the tv and lick the screen with deep, obsessive love.

Right, um..i can't think of much else to say. I'm going to go sleep now.

P.S. My film isn't online yet, but will be soon. Until then, here are a few stills (ignore the pre-green screened face of the monster).

    Hello!

How's things? You are lookin' good! Is that a new hair cut?

Things in my life are going alright. I'm back in Hull and have been for a few weeks, cracking on with uni things. I'm near to finishing set stuff now, just fiddling with props. As i always say, photo's will be up soon. For the meantime, here are some photos of the creation of my monster character, showing the insides, and front and profile pictures of the latex mould. There will be a photo of the finished laydee. So much for 'up to the minute' project updates :P

I aim to be filming in around 2 weeks time and my dissertation is so very nearly done that i can taste the title pages and binding. We have another group project, but whatcha gonna do. Fortunately, our group is a pretty ace one. It also happens to be a live project, given to us by The Bolex Brothers. Not too shabby. Ooh! And after i emailed the university on the subject of our degree show funds and got a reply talking about giving us some money towards it. Yay!

So....other very belated news. My 21st/Cassy's 19th party was a success! It was all a bit stressful on the day, running around collecting friends and being shouted at by my mum, but the evening was fantastic. Awesome friends, kooky bands, bad dancing and too much buffet food make for a good evening. Oh, and booze too.

    FUNTIMES. )

Hmm..can't think of anything else to report. I'm away to Glasgow this weekend again, i've recently discovered the magic of pesto, i have a shiny new 400gb hard drive and i REALLY have to stop getting lured by high street fashion. Now excuse me, tomato and spicy lentil soup is calling me.

P.S I have a facebook account now. I'm wondering how long it's going to take before i abandon this one.
P.P.S I really want to see the Howling Bells in Glasgow in March...blasted uni!
P.P.P.S. But i am seeing Russell Howard with Hayley :D

Happy new year everyone! Slightly late but who cares! Another thing i'm going to exclaim is that....it's my birthday today! My 21st to be exact. Crazy paving. Although i funnily enough don't feel in that much of a birthday mood today, even though it's been a lovely day so far. I've received some cool bits and bobs and Isaac's arriving in Brum later. Yay :). Tomorrow is the aforementioned party which i hope will be okay! A good few people have cancelled on me, which is incredibly disheartening but well, it happens. All i can say is that it is a damn good job this party is shared with my incredibly social little Sis, who i believe may have invited enough people to populate a small country. Hayley, Isaac and Jonathan are staying over my house which will be ace.

I haven't updated since Crimbo or New Years, but both events were great. Christmas was spent at home with my family. Got some amazing things (a whole bunch of new music), had a good laugh with my family and ate a dangerous amount of food. Seriously, i couldn't stop eating on Christmas Day. My theory is that my thrifty, student self lost control in seeing so much yummy home-made treats.

New Years Eve was spent up In Edinburgh with Isaac. His dad and step-mum were holding a little soiree, so i joined in! Around midnight on the actual night, we went up a hill (which i forget the name of) to watch the fireworks display over Edinburgh city. That was fantastic, except for the high speed, hurricane like winds. :P

Monday is the day of uni return-age. The horror of working 'properly' again shall slap me in the face, most likely. Only 3-4 months to university is over.....oh gawd.

Righty, i'm off to make an epic lunchtime sarnie.

Is..it? Yes it is! An update! Apologies for the complete radio silence, but time has not been on my side since starting my final year at uni. Yet, i have time to check up on elljay everyday. Strange that :P.

So, 2-3 months is a bit too long to recap everything, so i'll try to be short.

Uni has been insane. In the membrane! I have been working constantly, trying to juggle my personal project, dissertation, group work, degree show commitments and other things. My personal project is going okay...but I am uncomfortably behind schedule. I contribute this to our group project. My group is a great one (half of my friends are in it) and the project we've had so far (TV ident) was an ace brief. Everything just went a little crazy after we were told constantly different deadline dates by a new tutor, Gustavo. The project's all over now, but still...ever so slightly annoying. Back to the personal project, i've just begun the exciting 'making' phase. Set painting, wire bending and latex layering ahoy.

Despite the overwhelming amount of uni work, other things have happened too. Lots of trips to see Isaac, witnessing the Guillemots and DJ Shadow live (both amazing), an awesome final Halloween in Hull with Hayley and Kayum, trips to London and York and a few nights out. Although, now that i'm way into my film, i'm frequently becoming more of a recluse than i already am. Ooh er.

As i mentioned before, I am home for Christmas and happy! It's really nice being around my family again and being abused by Casper. Met up with Claudy today too and it was fab! Chats and shopping occured! I've yet to meet other people, but i think some sort of event may be happening this weekend. Ooh, there's intrigue in this entry!

Also, i'm having a birthday party! My first one since i was 11! I turn 21 soon and my sister turns 19 relatively near this, so we're having a joint birthday party. To be honest, it's more of my sisters affair (i do not have that many friends) but i'm sure it'll be fun. There's bands, food and all other sorts of fancy pants things. I even have Hayley, Adam, Isaac and hopefully Dave staying around my house too. Excitement! The thought of turning 21, however, is not exciting.

I feel proud of my ability to restrain my urge to ramble incoherantly. I'm off to sleep now. Hopefully, updates will be more frequent in the future (as well as photo's of past things when i'm back in Hull)!

Ah, only a week 'till i'm back in uni, ready to enroll. It's all a bit depressing as the summer has gone quick. Too quick for my liking. Half of the things i planned for the holidays haven't been done, so i feel a bit of a failure in that sense. Also, the thought of returning to Kingston-Upon-Hell is never a pleasant one. But! I'm also excited about seeing my friends again and getting on with my university project. I sort of feel in limbo about it at the moment, so i think having the routine of uni will get me working.

So, this week is quite busy. I'm meeting friends for goodbye drinks and shopping trips, having to tackle the chore of packing, leaving work (i'm really going to miss everyone there) and sorting out lots of things (student loans, degree show venue hire) whilst i still have use of a free landline telephone.

I saw Little Miss Sunshine with Anni yesterday, at the very retro, 1920's-esque Electric cinema.
A cinema which sells homemade cakes, olives and chocolate truffles as nibbles as well as letting you take alcohol into the screen, deserves nothing but thumbs up from me. The film was fantastic. Funny, sweet (without being over sentimental) and all in all, a wonderful portrayal of a very dysfunctional family. Can you guess that I liked it? :P

Extra things: I'm seeing the Guillemots with Anni in October (yippee!), for once, selling my junk on ebay has been a success and Isaac comes back from Greece in nearly a weeks time.

I knew about this stuff before, hearing it from 2nd and 3rd years who actually experienced it. However, reading the details in a national broadsheet newspaper seriously makes me wish I took my time out to do a foundation year. Or at least, considered the other universities i visited, instead of falling for the false promises made on the open day. Yes, the course has improved itself but yet, i can relate to a worrying amount of things in that article. C'est la vie, i suppose.

Tuesday, i returned from a thoroughly enjoyed Edinburgh Festival. My bank balance may have taken a knock, but my love for the festival is unabated! I saw a good few things including festival favourites of mine and Isaac, Boothby Graffoe and Mirrorball: Made In Japan. Both were fantastic, as per usual. Also, as per usual, both myself and Isaac are obsessing over the music videos featured in Made in Japan.

Two of the main highlights of my time there was seeing one of my best friends, Anneka in her play. It was a modern version of A Midsummers Night's Dream, put on by the University of Lincoln's drama society. God dammit, i'm part of that uni! I would have joined that society so bloody fast, to try my hand at set design, if i were at the Brayford campus. But anyhoo! Anneka was great as as a sexy fairy. Shakin' her ass and all that. I also greatly approved of the Radiohead-heavy soundtrack. The other highlight was just a show by the little well known.... BILL BAILEY! It was fantastic and he was hilarious. I longed for the over-priced merchandise, but money was tight.

The other shows/films we managed to see were Back To The Futon, Hoodwinked (for free, courtesy of Isaac's mum), Iceberg (the director and main actors had a little Q&A session afterwards which was nifty. I picked up some very helpful film-making tips.) Alex Lasarev (the guy we saw for free the first year I went) and an exhibition of Ron Mueck's giant, hyper-real sculptures. Apart from Alex Laserev, i'd say what we saw this year were all hit rather than miss. There are photos to be seen but i'll post those in the next entry.

So, now i am back in Birmingham, working my job at zee Natural World and doing nothing but university work until i leave around the 16th of September. I also need to hunt out all of the car boot sales in the land of Brum, as i have a lot of crap to get rid of. Other points include a spanking new winter coat/early christmas present from me mum, missing Isaac too much and my sister failing to get a place in Cardiff but getting a place in Sheffield, which she "prefered" anyway.

Considering i have to go to said work tomorrow, i should probably sleep now.

P.S. DJ Shadow is touring.(!!!) Oh, happy day!
P.P.S. As are The Dears and the Guillemots! I am SO getting a piece of Fyfe Dangerfie-er..well orchastrated, whimsical music action.
P.P.P.S. You can never have enough funky body-poppin' Japanese schoolgirls.

I'm guessing it's a matter of just adding anyone who has Furi Furi in their interests, but it's still nifty.

Also, i have a new phone! Well, techincally it is old, as it used to be Claudy's BUT it is bajillion, schmillion times better than my laughable excuse for a mobile phoning device. Plus, it was free and it has Electro Boy/Bollo's Happy Song as ringtones. Gleeeee.

    Hello there!

There hasn’t been an update in a while, so I thought I’d shift my arse into gear and type one out.

Anyway, things! Which have happened! Mostly work…which is going good. Except for when i missed Kayum's 21st birthday do because of it. But most of it's good. I went to Becky, a co-worker’s 18th birthday party recently. It was at The Boiler Room, so i could finally see where Heducation; an ace sounding hip-hop night is held. It was a very nice evening, even if our little group might as well have had a giant neon sign pointing to us, screaming ‘WORK PEOPLE’

Isaac came down a few weekends ago, and due to cramped conditions, Casper’s asthma aggravating whirlwind of fur and carnal desires, we booked a hotel room out instead of staying at my parents. A cheap-ass, budget hotel, but one nethertheless! The weekend was great, especially the novelty of staying in a hotel with things not tied down. You FOOLS, Etap!

On Saturday, I came back from a week in Dawlish, a little seaside town in Devon, relatively near Torquay. Everything was of your typical British seaside holiday, which made it kind of cool. Also, being in Devon, I had the excuse of stuffing my face with Devon cream teas, gargantuan clotted cream ice creams and pasties. Yum! We didn’t just give ourselves indigestion all week though...we partook in wholesome family holiday activities! We visited Teignmouth and Torquay, went to the beach, perused fetes and fairs and witnessed the spectacle which is re-enacted medieval jousting. It consisted of pretending to be stabbed and falling off horses in a fancy way. I did enjoy the medieval talk though. Buxom wenches and all that!

Photos of zee holiday are behind this cut. )

I've been slowly, but surely working on my third year film too. I'm just trying to get the story so solid and so complete that i won't have to worry to much about re-working it come September. I'm itching to do some concept art and storyboarding, but i'm waiting until the script is done. I think i'm just going to give in and paint some concept stuff at least. Also, as a bit of an incentive to get me working, i'm going to start putting concept drawings up here as well as sketchbook doodles. Maybe even start an art blog...but we'll see.

Next week i'm going to the Edinburgh Festival again! For 5 days! Hot diggity damn! I am super excited but as i can't afford to spend much, i'm trying to remain calm and collected about the whole affair. But it is hard. I'm also going to show my gratitude to Isaac's Dad and step-mum for letting me stay for a third year by bringing them a little something. It's so nice of them to let me stay.

Other random titbits include daytrips to Stratford, being re-measured and going up in a bra size, obsessions with Muse's new album, insightful catch-up conversations with close friends and the discovery of Wetherspoons Kopparberg Pear cider. Good times!

Grrrr, say i! The job i really wanted phoned up this afternoon to offer me an interview.

Now, this was for a little gift shop called 'Woteva', who sell those kitsch/hippy nick nacks. Y'know, Che Guevara wrapping paper, Hello Kitty German sausage makers, that sort of thing. I applied a good few weeks ago and assumed i was unsuccessful, so accepted the job within The Natural World (also i was kind of desperate for cash). I'm not knocking my current job. My colleagues are really nice, i'm getting some retail experience and it's not exactly taxing as it's never too busy. But! Woteva is closer, (5 minutes down the road) saving me on bus fare, they'd have payed me weekly not monthly and i'd still have recieved some sweet ol' retail experience. It's always the way. You get a job, and then all the ones you've applied are suddenly interested. Maybe it's some sort of special employer sense.

Anyway! Life is going okay. It's mine and Isaac's 2 year anniversary this weekend. I'm not usually the one to make a fuss over anniversaries, but i figure 2 years is quite long. So, im popping up to the village where his mother lives, Thornhill, this weekend. As i'm meeting his mum properly for the first time, i'm ever so slightly nervous...but it'll be alright.

Met up with Claudy the other day which was lots of fun, mainly because we seemed to be wandering around our old haunts. Foribidden Planet, Oasis Market, etc. Such memories! Another good thing to come out of that day was THE most practical satchel-esque bag from Primark. It's so big! Sketchbooks and uni work will fit in there with ease. I'd take a picture but i'm lazy.

Another semi-exciting thing happened to me recently. I say exciting. More like scary and very stupid. I managed to get lost on a bus. And no, not the actual bus....i'm not that dim-witted. The bus journey itself. You see, the 46 usually drops me near to my house...when it's going the right direction. I failed to take into account the other route it takes. The one through Perry Barr, Aston and Lozells. Or alternatively, Guncrime-shire. The stubborn sake of being right made me stay on the gawd damn bus until it was the last stop in some cul-de-sac. Panic ensued but thankfully, the driver was only stopping to get some Southern Fried chicken. Hoorah! The bus went back on it's self and i ended up back home in tame, inoffensive Selly Oak.

Wasn't that exciting? :p Aaaand i'm going to go now to scoff some Sainsbury's imitation crunchy nut cornflakes.

P.S. The commission i was doing for Sam is finished! Sort of! Have a look here.
P.P.S. I really need to start my uni work.
P.P.P.S. I can now see what all the fuss was about over Philip Pullman's Dark Material's trilogy. I've just finished Northern Lights and am now Pullman's bitch.

Hey hey! Hmmm..okay, i'll try and summarise the few things which have happened since the last update.

Metric in Glasgow were amazing. So amazing that i took photos. Many, many giant photos ) The few days extra i stayed over were lovely too :).

So far, since being home that is, i have applied for 29 jobs. And from these applications, i have had four interviews (2 of which i must have failed horribly), 3 rejections from other places and one spectacular failure of a temporary job in a pork sandwich mobile food stand. Tomorrow i'll march down to Pertemps with my reference from my tutor, Paul and beg for a temporary admin/data entry job. I'm trying to remain hopelessly optimistic about this whole job thing..

On the bright side, i have had a commission from my sisters boyfriend's brother, Sam to create the cover for his first album. We met up last week to discuss some of my sketches and he seemed to like one of them. Hoorah! I'll post it up here when i'm done Photoshopin' it.

Another good thing to note...i've had my hair cut! It's shorter and generally more sexy. Well, i think it is. My mum treated me as it was a family friends wedding on Saturday. Also, i think she was ashamed of my hair before :p.

Other random things: everyone I know is back from uni now, so i've met up with Claudy, Anni and next week, Kat! The weather is gorgeous! I met Jonathan again for quick hour chats! Isaac may be coming down next week! I'm getting a bit obsessed with the Guillemots! I had stir-fry for dinner!

Well, I am back home in Birmingham for zee summer. Yay!

Moving back was uneventful, just the same old 'mutiple suitcases and backpacks on the train' malarky as last year. I am still applying for jobs, and have an interview tomorrow for a catering assistant in Sainsburys in Northfield. It's not really glamourous, but i'm hoping i get it.

The last couple of days in Hull weren't too bad, considering i didn't have my computer (Kehoe took it home to look after for the summer). I went to a few house parties, got a bit tipsy, wandered around Hull with Hayley, and thanks to Jason, watched many a episode of Nathan Barley and South Park. Good stuff!

Last weekend i saw Dylan Moran/Cardiff with Claudy! It was ace, despite Claudia's dodgy tummy and Dylan Moran's repetitive jokes. He got heckled to "tell some new jokes" and appeared quite flustered about it. Bless. Myself and Claudy had a bit of a mooch around Cardiff uni, the city centre and the giant park contained within it. Shopping was imminent, really. I was shown the sheer brilliance which is Spillers Records and bought 2 albums from it's obscure music filled belly (Four Tet's, 'Everything Ecstatic' and Dungen's 'Ta Det Lugnt').

Next week, i see Metric and Isaac and Dave! Dancing and makeouts will most likely occur.

    Toodle pip!
