Mood: contemplative
I'm two weeks behind in posting my 365-a-day pictures. NOOOOO!
Dragon*Con was soooooooooooooo great. I would describe everything but I'm so lazy. So lazy. o_O Maybe when I get back to New Orleans. The hurricane hit my town. Not as bad as I thought it would which is great. It just sucked having that in the back of my mind all weekend. Marty and I are taking our forced time off to hang out. We'll go back home on Saturday. Maybe that's when I'll catch up on my pictures and write about Dragon*Con and everything.
Marty and I are flying out to Atlanta later today. We're packed for the most part. Just need to gather the toiletries and such. I'm excited and annoyed at the same. Excited because it's Dragon*Con and I'm pretty much ready. Annoyed because we also have a tropical storm/possible hurricane heading towards Louisiana. It can either veer right towards Florida, left towards Texas or just hit Louisiana because it's right in the middle.
I'm not worried about our safety. Oki is staying with our friends who own Ernie (another corgi) and they told us they'd head to Georgia if they need to evacuate. Marty and I will be Atlanta. We'll see if our flight back gets cancelled or not. Course, I'd rather not fly in any sort of stormy weather.
I'm mostly worried about possible flooding. I like my stuff, I don't want my stuff to be submerged in water.
If we were in Florida, it'd be whatever. I've gone through years and years of hurricanes without anything catastrophic happening. ::knock on wood:: Now that we're here in the New Orleans area, the risks are greater. Sheesh.
I am so ready for Dragon*Con. Course, I still have a few things to do so maybe not... many events and group shoots to attend. There are many panels I want go to as well, GAH! This weekend will be a whirlwind for sure.
( Costume Schedule - sort of )
Sunday was China Fest. One of Marty's co-workers, Travis (pictured in the middle), got everyone together to build a kite, make wontons, and watch the end of the Olympics. Kites were invented by the Chinese just in case you didn't know.
In the picture from left to right is me, Nicole, Travis, Paul, Vanessa, and Molly.
Mmm... wontons. I wanna make cheese wontons now.
Dude, the day we decide to go to the D-Day Museum is the day that there's a wargame convention. It's funny. I tried researching conventions for this area and it seems like most of the conventions were washed away with Katrina. For some reason though, wargame conventions are thriving in the New Orleans area. Too bad I'm not into strategic gaming. :P Can we get some more sci-fi conventions over here, please?
The museum itself was very interesting, educational, and somewhat depressing.
Friday after work, Marty and I met up with some friends at the Hong Kong Market. It's a giant, Asian supermarket in Gretna which is south New Orleans. First, we ate at the noodle shop and got some really great pho. Then we did a little shopping, picked up a few items including a 50-pound bag of rice. I love the wall 'o ramen.
This place is pretty far from us, 40 minute drive? It's worth it though. Only have to go there once in a while.
I received these in the mail and they make me so happy!!! I need to make the gray and olive tanks to go along with these. Get some green BDUs... This is not meant for Dragon*Con although I suppose it'd be cool to try to get it done before D*C. o_O I doubt that'll happen though.
I'm not particularly fond of this picture. It's meh. It's basically my point of view from the car as we drove away from the city.
Melissa, Aleesha, and I have our weekly venture into the city for wining and dining and this week Marty came along. We were supposed to go out for wine and tapas but there was miscommunication so we ended up hanging around at a pub eating food and drinking beer. Not that I drank any beer. I had Woodchuck Green Apple Cider. It was alcoholic. It was decent.
We met up with a bunch of people and that was cool.
Man, the pub had some substantial chili cheese fries... I'm hungry.
I should have been working on my costumes. That's why there's the weekend I guess...
This is my Olympics mug! It expresses my... Olympic spirit or something.
I found this about a year ago in an Asian market. Jingjing is my favorite mascot cause he looks like a panda.
I want more Olympics stuff. I especially want the Olympics highlights DVD since it will have the opening ceremony. That doesn't come out until September 30 though, which makes sense because the DVD shouldn't come out until after the Olympics are over anyway.
This makes me smile. Picked it up at Target for a dollar and I've stuck it on one of the cabinets at my desk. I love these type of things where you pick your mood and picking between the Mr. Men and Little Misses is a bonus.
Marty was playing a territories game on Halo 3 and his entire team quit. He kept playing until the end of the game despite that fact.
Kid on Other Team: We're sorry your team quit.
Kid on Other Team 2: Yeah, they were n00bs.
Hehehe.
This is one of the books that I got and it makes me incredibly happy!!! It's a book called Pattern Drafting that was published in 1969. It has everything in English and Chinese.
I love, love, love old books. I love things that truly reflect the time it was made. I love the 50's and 60's. Technicolor, whimsical, repressed. XD
There's a Friends of the Library book sale one weekend each month in the next town over. We just happened to go the month where everything is 50% off. :D We got all this for less than ten bucks.
Marty needs to restock his fiction anyways.
Oh yeah, still need another bookcase...
So this is my work area. Very exciting. Not really.
I like it. It's pretty private. I have a desktop and a laptop. I frequently bring the laptop home. I decorated a bit. I have little toys and figures on the desk as well as pictures of Marty and Oki. I also hung up a Gator pennant and some art done by Sherry, Camay, and Vivian. :D
Aleesha, Melissa and I decided we're going to dinner out in the city at least once a week. Usually Wednesday or Thursday night. First we went to a place for wine and cheese but I got lambic instead of wine. They didn't have moscato. :P I loooove these glasses! Melissa has a set as well, hmm, I need to check ebay.
Dude, I've been eating sushi at least once a week since I've been here it seems. After the wine and cheese we ate sushi at a restaurant called... Kyoto something or something. I've been pleased with the sushi restaurants here. There's only been one restaurant that I wasn't impressed with but the rest have been fantastic. You'd think I would eat more Po' Boys since moving here. :P
Our airsoft guns came in the mail! Very exciting. Marty's Centurion is coming together quite nicely. I think all he needs is the helmet but he's got a backup plan just in case his current helmet vendor craps out.
Marty's been using the laser target/pointer thing on his gun to play with Oki.
Man, I'm extremely excited for Dragon*Con but there's still crap to do! AAAHHHH!
I'm starting on my costumes for next year as soon as I get back from Dragon*Con. :P

I love the Office (PB+J) but I'm not really interested in seeing the Rocker. They've got some pretty amusing marketing going on for the movie though. It started on MySpace when Rainn Wilson (Dwight) decided to hijack Jenna's (Pam's) MySpace and wrote out a ransom note saying he kidnapped Jenna. Now there's a blog/website for the Free Jenna campaign.
( Here's the ransom note: )
Marty and I set the date. April 25, 2009. These are the notes that the fortune teller wrote our concerning our lucky day as well as a few comments on our relationship. I'm going to have to ask mommy for the whole translation. All she told me was that we need to pick between April 10 or April 25 and April 10 is the Friday before Easter weekend. The fortune teller also remarked that Marty and I get along very well but that I tease/harass him all the time.
Having my aunt in Hong Kong consult a fortune teller took longer than I would have liked, but overall I am very pleased with following this tradition.
I plan to frame this.
