the falsity of memory

Invent a memory of me and post it in the comments. It can be anything you want, so long as it's something that's never happened. Then, if you're so inclined, post this to your journal and see what people would like to remember of you, only the universe failed to cooperate in making it happen so they had to make it up instead.

Remember when we were attacked by the albino squirrels in Illinois? And they were all clinging to the car, and we didn't shake the last one off until West Virginia and all those hairpin turns? I still have bad dreams about all those little red beady eyes.

Remember that time we went snowshoeing? You said you'd done it before, but just before we left, you confessed that what you really meant was that you had watched other people do it.

But it didn't matter, because once we got to the cross-country ski area, we realized that we'd forgotten the snowshoes.

Should we go back and get them? Actually, it came out, neither of us was really that sold on the idea of snowshoeing in the first place. It had seemed like a good idea when it came up, but when it came down to actually doing it, it was going to be cold and wet and we were going to be sore. So we went and had hot chocolate instead.

You were twemty-two and you smiled like sunshine. We walked knee deep in leaves as we explored the forest and you kept on chucking nuts to the squirrels, naming them after movie characters. You told me you liked to lay back and look at the stars and I promised you we had stars, that we'd sit on the beach with take-out from the Bread Garden and watch them move slowly through the night.

Only, you tripped on the tree root that wasn't the tree route and you made a little noise in your throat and pointed and the skin was blue white and waxish.

You dropped your peanuts.

The squirrels wouldn't come near.
