Today I went in to Bellevue to meet
aeto. We saw Hellboy 2 and went to the Art festival afterwards.
Both were disappointing, to say the least.
From the very first scene, Hellboy 2 sucked. The exposition was awful - it would have worked much better as a flashback later in the movie, even as much as I generally hate flashbacks. There were so many logical inconsistencies in the film that I found it hard to believe none of the characters noticed. The attempts to play on the audience's emotions was inept when it wasn't overblown. And the two key facts that defeat the villain are so obvious I literally said, "Ah! So that's how he'll lose then, is it?" It was.
As for the fair, it was either smaller than I remember or I'm remembering wrong. But I'm definitely not misremembering the quality of the art. It was much, much better last year, when I went with
ksharra. I spent, I'd guess, two hours last year looking at the various art in all the stalls. This year I walked through the aisles in about ten minutes, which was plenty.
I also took
kieferskunk and
firesplace out to dinner last night, in payment of all the great work Kiefer's done on my new review index. There's still a few minor things to be ironed out, but by and large it's done and looking great. And I've transferred well over 500 reviews, now, too.
As for last week, I also met Aeto, this time in Seattle itself for the Bite of Seattle. That was a lot of fun, although a bit expensive. Still, I had wild-boar chile, a plum smoothie, and a few less memorable things. Aeto and a few other people that he knows and I don't went to see Batman: The Dark Knight afterwards, but I was going to see it on Sunday with friends (as it turned out, just with
foxcutter, alas) so I begged off. I don't like watching more than one movie per weekend, and haven't since I stopped hanging out with Charlie.
The main thing that makes that Bite memorable is that I rode my bike. Well, I rode my bike to and from the bus, but I rode in Seattle as well. That was an interesting experience to be sure. Those bike racks on the front of the busses are pretty good, but damn I was nervous every time it hit a bump and I sat in front to watch every sway and wobble. I bet it takes regular riders quite some time before they trust the bike racks enough with their babies to read or do work or whatever as they ride. I know my eyes were pretty much glued on my bike.
But it worked. The ride was good, the Bite was good, Aeto was good, and life is... well, decent. So I'm reasonably happy with the world, now.

I just rode home fourteen(very tiny) NE blocks on my bicycle and almost died THREE TIMES.
Jesus Christ, people. WTF is WRONG with you? One man walked right in front of me. RIGHT in front of me, even though I had three lights going and the area was very well lit, he just walked RIGHT in front of me without a care in the world, did not even seem intoxicated, and didn't care at all about what had just happened after I hastily dismounted my bike to get out of the way. Then, within a block of each other, one guy opens the door to his truck right in front of me. My bicycle light is bright, okay? Like almost as bright as a car headlight. It is REALLY bright, and I just got new batteries for it. Regardless, not even checking his mirror, he opens his door and I swerve out of the way just in time to not bash my face into his armrest. If I had been driving my truck, his door would have been toast(Isecretly wish that were the case). I make a perfectly legal right turn at the next block and a Cherokee pulling out of a parallel parking space in the oncoming direction HONKS at me because they overestimated their turning radius and felt that they didn't have enough space to enter traffic as I was riding by. I'm sorry, but YOU are entering traffic, therefore YOU are the one who is required to yield to traffic already in motion. There is absolutely no reason that car should have honked at me.
You know, I haven't rode my bike in a week, and this kind of shit makes me want to burn up all of the fossil fuels in the world 'cause you drivers are fucking retarded.

If I don't feel like crap tomorrow and wake up early enough and figure out a way to get downtown to take the ferry, methinkses I'll head to San Francisco for Dore.
In other news, I got a package in the mail today. A sample that I ordered last week, for something that I'm considering buying. I'm not completely sold on it, but I think I'm going to go ahead as plotted. Muahahah.
I also got the newest issue of Nintendo Power (yes, I still subscribe, since the start of the magazine). Two things of note. New Sonic game coming, Sonic And The Black Knight. The article on that one has the headline 'Sonic Unsheathed' :P The other thing is an interview with Capcom producer Minoru Nakai about the upcoming Wii port of Dead Rising, re-titled Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.
They're removing photography from Dead Rising (quote: "There won't be and photography in the Wii version"). That gets a HUGE OMGWTFBBQBIKE. Frank is a photojournalist that goes to the mall to take photos in search of a great story. How the hell will they fill that gaping plot hole? Also, Overtime Mode is being eliminated as an unlockable extra, instead it is being made into part of the normal game. WTF Capcom?

Hey DP,
I've been living with a lover. She moved in after being evicted by a previous landlord. She has never been on the lease, nor have we negotiated this as a sublet. We have no written contract, and I have been supporting her financially, paying all utilities and rent. She has contributed about $1000 towards our living expenses over the past year or so.
Our relationship recently ended, and I would like for her to leave my home. Do I need to give a formal notice (30 days or something like that), or is it legally permissible for me to ask her to leave by the end of the week?
xo,
girlracer

xo,
Or is that BEAR feet? I'm playing around with the awesomeness that is the goat hooves shown a while back, and here are my ideas for bear paws. So far I've only made one, and it's not fully furred yet.
But anyways...
( (Whee! Stinky BEAR (bare) FEET! )
P.S. I do have a question. What do I do about the heel part? I'm using short pile fur, but if I have to, I'll purchase some longer pile. The heel doesn't bother me much.
These are actually comfortable to walk around in.

Hi, my husband and I are both allergic to grass so we’re looking for someone who can maintain our yard. We have a very small front yard and a regular size backyard. We need someone to come over twice a month to weed and mow the grass. You must have your own mower and ability to haul away debris.
We live in SE, south Mt. Tabor area – any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Or tell me if I should dress him as my dinner... again... (he was a chicken last year... and I was a tiger x.x)

That's my mother holding his hand... I'm behind the camera of course!
No idea how to do under the cut stuff or whatever...

As I was biking along the waterfront this evening (6 PM-ish) the water was very high and choppy, and the pier (I call it that anyway, the part on the east side south of the Steel Bridge, where it's right on the water) was rocking up and down noticeably as a result. Is that common, because I wanna ride it again! I've never seen it do that before. Have I just been biking at the wrong times, or is it rare?

A while back some one posted about a moving second thumb. They were making an sangheli suit or something.
I was just wondering if they ever got the mechanism to make the false thumb mirror the real thumb. I tried to make one last night and I could not get the thumb to do much of anything. I looked up the original post and tried his mechanism, and it didn't work out either.
I know I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be, but it would be so neat!

Dear Interwebs:
My partner suffers from chronic pain and needs some medical attention pretty soon. Does anybody here have any suggestions of doctors that might be able to help out? Bonus for doctors that have experience diagnosing chronic pain issues. Extra bonus for doctors that are queer/trans friendly or substance-positive in a harm-reduction sort of way.
Also, he has Open Access Plus insurance through Cigna, which brings up the following doctors under a search for "pain management" in or near Portland, OR. Does anybody have any experience ( with the following doctors? )

I need some of that wrought iron diamondy patio furniture, a table and chairs to seat at least 4, maybe 6, preferably in black. From where can I get it delivered most expediently? I thought about Cregzlst but eff that. Unless you have some you wanna sell and are willing to drop it off for extra munnies, or know somebody like that.
So me and my sister went to the Brewfest today, and after I got a more than a bit buzzed I finally asked her just why she doesn't like beer. It's too bitter she says. Now this rings a bell so I ask her why she doesn't drink coffee--same thing. Anyways, it turns out that she can taste things in food that others can't, mostly metals and bitterness, and now we we're wondering if she's a Supertaster. She'd LOVE to have an excuse as to why she can't drink beer and coffee, as a kid she HATED chocolate (now she's fine with it, as long as it's not dark). It would probably also explain why she became a cook. Does anyone know where or how she can get tested?
Portland-related because we're looking for somewhere local.

As a newbie to making fursuits and general sewing, I was thinking of different ways to make my Poochyena (a pokemon) fursuit. Although some of these ideas are really general. I want to know if people have tried things like this or generally what they think of these ideas.

I'm thinking of taking 2 classes. One in November and one in December. They're both online classes. I won't have the money to pay for each of them until about 1 week before the class starts. Do you think if I sign up and pay 1 week before the classes start that'll be okay? I don't know if there's an enrollment limit on online classes like there are regular classes. Or if you need to be registered early and pay at the beginning of the term (they're technically fall classes), in which case I won't be able to afford it.
I'm staying at my parent's house through next Monday. They're on a trip to Europe to visit Spain and Portugal. I agreed to watch the cat and rabbit while they're away. It's sort of like a mini vacation for me, but I still have to go to work. At least I get to shake up my routine a little.
Oh, the joy :P
