Yeah. It's likely that I'll start taking people off my reading list soon, for uncut political content. Especially if you're coining insults about either political party.
After the election, I'll reevaluate.

Just to see your face I'm doing this new thing where I type notes into a Gmail window and edit them into coherence the following morning. I needed the escapism of television last night something fierce (actually, I'm beginning to think I need anti-anxiety meds for more than a potentially-crowned molar). Thankfully, my shows made me happy.
( Terminator: Allison from Palmdale )
( Heroes: One of Us, One of Them )
( Gossip Girl: The Serena Also Rises )
I am attempting to avoid news sites today, which gives me much less material to read than normal. Where do you go online for diversion? Happy things, please.
Best wishes to all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Let the new year be an improvement over the old.

Like needlework again Events of the weekend:
*My sister bought a new car on Friday night. It was kind of a surprise, because the last I'd heard, she was planning to wait until spring. Her Honda Accord is 13 years old, so it was more than reasonable to start looking around, but the turmoil in the credit markets made her wary of delaying much longer. She went with an Acura TL, silver with a tan leather interior and every bell and whistle offered. The most important, in Mom and my opinion, is the GPS navigation system. La soeur is infamous for getting lost and calling home demanding turn by turn instructions for how to make it back.
*I slept lots. Also, snuggled with Teddy for extended periods of time. He was so adorable, tucking himself under my arm and squirming around to get comfortable then falling into sleep. There were quivering paws and a twitching muzzle, people. The cuteness was off the charts.
*Attempted to organize my music collection on iTunes. It is a gargantuan task, and I'm still not done.
*Did a spot of shopping at the mall ( smittywing: the grey cargo pants are mine), and got a pedicure. I now have sparkly purple toenails.
*Watched a fair bit of television from my TiVo.
*Discovered Amelia, thanks to Paste. The music is gorgeous, simple and direct.
( Burn Notice )
( Samurai Girl )
( Gossip Girl )
( NCIS )
( Criminal Minds )
So, yes. Watch Samurai Girl, do. And pray that Gum Snapper doesn't start her annoying habits early this week, because the urge to lunge for her throat gets harder and harder to quash. Oh, damn it. She just got back from a meeting and is chewing with her mouth open. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

Fear and loathing LJ, I am afraid I have cracked a molar. There's a rough edge, and my tongue is sore (I am, in fact, lisping somewhat), and I called my dentist and they were able to move my appointment up to next week. But what if I need a crown? It's already been filled, twice, and my tooth loss phobia has not gotten any better since the last crowning trauma. Ugh.
I'd talk about television, but I don't know what to think. Terminator was awesome. Heroes made me realize I don't really care about any of these characters anymore, but then ( vague spoilers )
I successfully resisted the lure of the cupcake shop this afternoon. I feel virtuous. And sleepy.

Godawful It's not just me, right? The Emmy's are atrociously bad this year, no? I mean, apart from Ricky Gervais, who was fantastic. But the rest? Ugh. I fled upstairs and am about to watch True Blood. Which might be bad in its own way, but not excruciatingly awkward.
I've been reading Katharine Eliska Kimbriel's Nuala novels all weekend. Has anyone out there even heard of them? Fire Sanctuary, Fires of Nuala, Hidden Fires? I suspect I'm the only person who ever fell in love with them, back in the 80s.

Speed Freak This video is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life.
Skateboarders. Skip to 2:20 or so to witness the magic, but I liked knowing how they prepared. Well worth watching in full screen.
I wish I had those reflexes. Only on a bike, when I was younger, riding as fast as I could down a hill, glorying in the wind resistance, have I ever approached that kind of rush.

Applefest 2008 This past weekend was loads of fun, as the now-traditional apple-picking expedition gathered at barkley's. We had a widget285 (not dead yet!) and an elishavah and a me.
( Pre-apple: Muppets, Archives, photos of Kirby and Teddy and various adventures )
( Applefest 2008: drive up, vids, pick-ur-own, Red Dawn, Middleman, etc. )
By the by, Fringe did not engage me at all. The color palette was too dreary, the gross-out factor was too high, the characters didn't stand out, and I know from bitter experience that any mysteries introduced and character arcs attempted will not be resolved satisfactorily. JJ Abrams track record on that front is dismal.
I've been rereading old favorites from my shelves recently, including Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown. Oh, Damar, how I adore you. I suspect the attention paid to horses is part of the reason I loved these novels in my adolescence, but there are other charms to be found. No horses at all in C.S. Friedman's In Conquest Born, but I needed to refresh my memory prior to tackling the sequel, even if it is set 200 years or more in the future.
If you missed it, I've long-since reached saturation point on political posts on LJ (where "anything outside a cut tag" = Too Much). If I drop you from my reading list, I'll be back after the election. And please remember that not everybody on LJ is a liberal democrat (think of the people who aren't U.S. citizens, if nothing else!), and that rage isn't likely to change minds. The amount of vitriol being spilled is genuinely upsetting to me. I'm seriously pondering deleting my journal around the election, a step I've never taken, but I find it all too hard to take.
Now I'm back at work and wishing I were home snuggling with my puppies.

( True Blood )
Fringe will have to wait.
( Items in the news: Lance Armstrong. LHC and black holes. Kim Jong Il. Celine Dion. )
The new laptop battery I ordered arrived, and I cannot tell you of my glee at having four hours to work sans electrical cord. The orange blinky light is gone too. What's the best way to dispose of the previous battery? There are environmental concerns, right?

Terminator: Samson and Delilah ( eeeeeeee!!!! )
In other news, I was glad to see Britney Spears, lucid and sparkling, on last night's VMAs. Even if this video is a far superior exploration of the song Piece of Me than the official one that took home all the awards.
There remains Mad Men and True Blood on my TiVo to watch, but I did see Entourage. It's on sufferance after last season. Gossip Girl will have to wait until later in the week. Terminator wins the battle for my attention handily.
Also, Peeps in Space!

My brain. What? I kind of want to write an O.C./bandom crossover where Seth has a novel that gets awesome reviews, and so he meets Pete Wentz at some random Hollywood party, and Pete's read his book and ... I don't know! Mainly, I want Seth to be all snarky regarding Fall Out Boy and then encounter Gerard Way and get all geeky over comics /o\
Also, Seth and Joe Trohman could commiserate over the width of their hair.
Summer would be unimpressed. As she does.

And then there's: In comments, tell me: What's your favorite story that I've written, and why?
When I still wrote stories, or anything at all /o\ I've not forgotten the drabbles I promised back in July – I've just not been able to focus on fiction recently. This weekend, though, I'm determined to get at least some of them done.
My laptop still has the blinky orange light. And the battery barely lasts an hour when I unplug it. I think I need to buy a new one. Ugh, Dell.
Duchovny enters rehab for sex addiction. I thought it was an Onion headline at first, but no. Oh Mulder, all the porn had to catch up to you sometime.
Also, I am working from home tomorrow \o/ (it's still tomorrow until I go to sleep or the sun rises, whichever comes first).

The Light that Slipped Through the Window ( Bandom shenanigans galore )
I've been listening to This Is Ivy League this morning. They make me ridiculously blissful.
Two technical questions:
- Should I be concerned that my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop has taken to blinking an orange light at me? It's the one indicating that the laptop is plugged into a power source, and normally it's a steady green.
- Why the frell has Word at work decided that I want an arrow () when I hit CTRL+the right arrow key? What I really want is for the cursor to skip over the words to the right. CTRL+left arrow key still skips me back, and it is messing with my mouse-averse typing rhythm! Egads! Forsooth!

Everybody's Gotta Have Plans My weekend was lazy, which was just what I needed. I slept long and hard at night, and napped during the afternoons, lounging on the sofa with Teddy curled up against or on top of me.
Aside from the Olympics, I caught up on Mad Men, Burn Notice, and Long Way Down, but I find myself with little to say about them. Peggy is annoying me for reasons I can't pin down, I adore Michael's mother, and I wish Ewan McGregor would always ride his motorcycle around the world.
( As for sporting events from Beijing )
*squishes everybody who commented on the love meme*
