OK fine! I'll update. I was on vacation in NC this week. I sat in this chair and stared out at the lake when I wasn't taking pictures, editing pictures or looking at other people's pictures. Or eating. Or hiking.

Well, it turns out I was in downtown Atlanta on Friday night when the tornado it. Fortunately, I was UNDER the city on MARTA on my way home from the airport. My flight was delayed by an hour so that we could fly around the line of storms instead of flying through it. When I saw the storms, I greatly appreciated that decision. I saw a fire on the ground in Alabama that looked like it had probably been started by a lightening strike. Then I watched the dark clouds and brilliant lightning and explained where rain and lightning come from to the 7 year old girl sitting next to me. When we landed, the storm was headed toward Atlanta. I got my bag and hopped on the train. We got to Five Points, the train stopped for a few minutes before Peachtree Center where two guys hopped on and seemed very excited about something, but I chalked that up to drunk basketball fans. The train stopped again after Peachtree Center and the driver said something about "circuit out ahead" and then after about ten minutes, we proceeded to Civic Center. Of course, when I got in my car, they said something about a tornado on the radio, but I didn't put two and two together until I got home and saw the destruction on TV. I was probably underground between Five Points and Peachtree Center when the tornado hit the Five Points/Peachtree Center area. The guys on the train had either been in the station or trying to get into the station when it hit. Pretty wild! No damage to the office building, despite the fact that it's just two blocks south of GWCC and the Dome, both of which sustained some impressive damage. I'm at the National Disaster Medical System conference this week, so I won't be back downtown until Thursday.

Complete: #43 - Renew CPR/AED Training. Renewed CPR, First Aid & AED. I think it will expire in February 2010, so I'll need to renew it again then, but this one's technically complete
In Progress: #20 - Try a new recipe every month - this month's recipe was a light version of Chicken Parmesan from a Weight Watcher's cookbook. Turned out really well! 2/33
#23 - Buy fewer plastic bottles - haven't purchased bottled water since early January, except a couple of gallon bottles for a workday at the nature preserve.
#24 - Use cloth bags for grocery shopping - I'm doing really well with this. Cleaning out the car once a month helps because I can make sure there's always a stash of tote bags in the trunk of the car.
#25 - Check tire pressure monthly - 2/33, did that this morning. Rear passenger side tire was a little low, so I'll need to keep an eye on it.
#32 - Pay off car - $500 closer. If I get travel reimbursements in a timely manner, I will call for the payoff amount next month and see if I can swing it.
#42 - Perform an SBE every month - 2/33
#48 - Go to at least two (non St. Bart's, non-symphony) concerts a year. Saw the Mikado at GPC ( cathalexp as a Schoolgirl!) -not REALLY a concert per se, but I'm counting it. 1/6
#50 - Try five new (to me) Atlanta area restaurants each year - went to Babette's on Valentine's. YUM! 1/15
#56 - Attend Taize services in Atlanta at least three times a year. Went Monday. 1/9
#59 - Visit churches (and attend services when possible) while traveling. Attended Ash Wednesday service at Grace Episcopal Church, Charleston, SC. It turns out that this is the church where my father sang in the choir when he was a little boy.
#67 - Visit cultural/historic places of interest while on business travel. Grace Church, Charleston, built in 1848, plus I strolled through the Charleston City Market.
#73 - Clean out the car once a month - 2/33
#83 - Go a year without reading women's magazines (exception: O if stuck in airport). OK, I read the February issue of O, even though I wasn't stuck in the airport, but it had so many good (non fashion/beauty) articles that I'm countin this as progress. The interview with Pema Chodron, Martha Beck's article on attracting your heart's desire, and the article on Wally Lamb's work with female prison inmates were all really good.

Every once in a while, my GPS takes me somewhere interesting, even when I don't use the "avoid interstate highways" function. This was taken in North, South Carolina.

X-posted to mission101:
Made a little progress this week:
15. Keep a party journal Got a little photo album, started editing photos from New Year's Eve, wrote down the guest list (except for the couple who came with Brad and Amy, whose names I can't remember)
23. Buy fewer plastic bottles Got two Sigg water bottles so that I can take DeKalb tap water to work rather than buying bottled water (before you laugh at me, the water at work tastes like it came from a swimming pool. It's nasty.)
30. Continue investing in Roth IRA 2008 Contribution went in this week (I actually placed the order last year)
32. Pay off car Made another $500 payment on it.
71. Carry a more professional looking bag to work Got a faux-croc satchel in red from NY & Co. - a fun color and texture, but more structured and nicer-looking than the ratty totebag I was carrying. Slightly smaller, too, so less conducive to junk-hauling. I think I've been carrying it to work since Tuesday.
81. Get hair cut every 6-8 weeks Um, I tried to get an appointment. Nobody called me back. Writing that here should help me remember to call back on Monday
101. Write about 101 Things achievements in LJ Check!

Dearest New Years Resolutioners at the gym:
If you can send someone a text message while walking on the treadmill, YOU ARE NOT GETTING A WORKOUT. That is all.
Love,
The woman who is glaring at you and waiting for you to fall off so that she can step over your body to claim your treadmill
