(notacon) wheeeeeee!
Notacon was fun. my team (me, tod, david, and a friend of his) totally kicked ass w/ the scavenger hunt. krnlpanik was very amused when we "found his car." i also got to sing a docapella song for the talent show. tyger was amused because it sounded so familiar. and tyger and froggy didn't smoke!!! woo!! i got some kind of nifty loot too, but not as much stuff as last year. anyone want a shell account for 3 months? i don't know if i'll use it, but it was the best prize i could get from the talent show. the packetsniffer's t-shirt i think i'll keep though. i guess it's hard to get as cool of stuff as 2 autographed books by Eric Meyer (which i got last year). ah well. maybe next year i should help collect cool stuff to give away as prizes. preferably non- Microsoft stuff. (:
other highlights: the speakers were cool and fun. Steph the geek had a cute Canadian accent. the AI bots shown in Eldan and Sean's talk were so cute, i want one. the guy from cool cleveland was really nice and fun to talk to. a couple of people not attending the con bought a shirt, because they like getting shirts from stuff that they don't know much about or didn't attend. drendar tap-danced very cutely. i found out that drew curtis can make a living off of fark. impressive. the pizza party sponsored by SynAck labs was a great way to meet some of the other con-goers. tyger got her bubble tea, and irkdub got his wendy's. and irkdub paid for his wendy's (which i wasn't expecting, but hey, who am i to argue? *evil grin*). as far as i know, most talks happened. there was only one technical mishap in videotaping the talks for the entire weekend. i need to see the batmud talk and the photography talks when the dvd comes out. oh, and the shwag was pretty cool. i like my new hat and am wearing the green shirt today. i wonder if anyone will notice.
things i want to see next year: the professional track on friday sounds like it went well, and i hope it happens again since i think more people will be able to get work to let them attend. i wish i could have attended, but i was either in class, or helping out. i'll have to watch the talks later. i also want to see the talentless talent show and the scavenger hunt happen again. oh, and the anything but ethernet contest too. i wish i'd been able to see the two entries in action. i also think it might be neat to have an "art made out of technology" thing, either as a competition or just a showcase. the photography was cool, but i'm envisioning artistic sculptures constructed out of hardware, geeky clothing with things like cd's or hard-drive platters encorporated, scsi cable belts, geeky pun art (like the red hat i wore friday with "own this box" on it), etc. also, the pizza party went so well, i think something similar would be cool to bring people together and talk. oh, and i wonder if there would be any interest in geeky shwag boxers/panties or other non-t-shirt items. maybe notacon tote bags? not sure if it'd be worth the money to make unless there's clear interest in it though. maybe it might be a fun project if i want to set up a cute craftsy table o geek gear to show off and/or sell. *ponders*
things i don't want to see next year: scary incidents like what almost happened during the midnight mixer. froggy and tyger in debt after the con (come on people! you know you want to go to notacon!). artwork gone missing. last minute schedule changes (i know... nff couldn't help it he couldn't come down at the last minute, and rich probably was a bit swamped too with other stuff too, but i really wanted to see their stuff!).
so, um, in summary, notacon went well, and i definitely want to go again next year. yay!
