Bwaa Ha Ha!
Some people have seemed to think that I believe that men should be able to feel up women at will. Actually, I'm totally against it. Speak, but do not touch without permission.

And velvetsteel provides an excellent way to teach men the lesson of women's rights. Frankly, I wish this happened more often. Preferably when I had a camera.

My grandfather (an old irish-catholic immigrant) lost his leg to frostbite years ago (before I was born).
He had a wooden leg specially made and cared for it an inordinate amount (He oiled it, buffed it daily , etc).

One day as we left an Irish store in a particularly seedy part of town, a thug came up to my grandfather and I to try and shake him down for money (I was about 5, maybe 6 at the time). My grandfather, thinking of my safety, took out his wallet and threw it near a drain to distract said thug. As the guy went scampering after the billfold, my gramps some how got his leg distatched and swinging in a split-second (I still say to this day he practiced) and knocked the guy in the back of the head(unconcious in one blow..I was/am astounded).

My great-uncle lost a leg in the War (I am not sure which War) and his artificial leg was made out of some incredibly heavy substance that my childhood memory wants to say was ceramic, though it was probably 1960s-era heavy plastic. Two of my distant cousins, a pair of sisters, had a long-standing petty squabble over the earthly belongings of their mother, who had been dead for several years by then. I was about five, and it was a family tradition: after whatever holiday meal, before the first cousin left my grandmother's house for home, Cousin Pettie or Cousin Verla Mae would bring up her mother's photo albums or her living room suite. One year at Easter my great-uncle, who was under the back porch drinking beer with my uncles (we're all Baptist, so the beer had to stay under the porch), heard the fighting, stood up and said, "I've about had it with those young'uns" (both cousins were in their fifties). He staggered off around the house to the front yard where the good Baptists were watching the fireworks, took off his leg, hopped a few steps, and spontaneously kapowed either Verla Mae or Pettie across the small of the back with his ceramic leg. Then he hopped to the front porch, sat down, reattached the leg, and staggered back under the back porch to the beer. Nobody did said anything to him because he was a war hero.

Twenty-two years after the fact, nobody can confirm which cousin he kapowed with the leg. Both of them swore he hit the other one, and all three people have since died.

Aw, man, this is sounding suspiciously like urban family legend.

This is less funny, but it's still always a hoot when the guy pops you with his leg. However, the "war hero" line isn't the best excuse, sadly.

You know when you speak your mind and aren't totally PC some people twist your words, But I for one like it when people are honest about stuff. Because un PC things happen everyday and how can things change if we just pretend that they don't exist or that we live in a PC world that is fair ?

So that you could, ah, "drug velvetsteel's mom into the back alleyways and beat her"? Your argument earlier was that a woman who says "no" fifteen times doesn't really mean no - she's just got a "rampant need for a string of pleadings".

That hasn't been my argument at all. Ever. That's been your interpretation of my argument.

My argument has been, quite consistently, something else. But you haven't been able to see that because you've got your agenda to push, and you're quite irrationally angered by single lines and alternate definitions.

If you'd like to actually hear my argument, you should try reading the text sometime. But I doubt you will, since you're no longer attempting to find out what anyone has to say; you're trying to quash any unsightly disagreement.

It was what you said, and it was the interpretation you defended.

My argument has been, quite consistently, something else.

You certainly seem to have gotten unnerved on discovering that, having defended at length men who harass women into having sex with them, and argued that their behavior was all the woman's fault for not stopping them, you were acquiring an lj-wide reputation... as a man who defended sexual harassment and blamed it on women.

If you'd like to actually hear my argument, you should try reading the text sometime.

I did. It was disturbing.

But I doubt you will, since you're no longer attempting to find out what anyone has to say; you're trying to quash any unsightly disagreement.

Heh. Please. How exactly can I "quash" you by commenting on your livejournal? You are free to post as much as you like about the effectiveness of sexual harassment: the only penalty you will ever pay is in finding that people think of you as someone who defends sexual harassment. (And then gets unnerved and backtracks and tries to say he didn't really mean what he so enthusiastically wrote about a few days ago. But I'd rather you were unnerved and backtracking about open support for sexual harassment, than, as before, jokey, jovial, and confident that all will agree with you.)

Absolutely incorrect. Sometimes I wonder whether you're even reading what I'm writing. I've actually offered to clarify, but since you don't seem interested in how you could be misreading it or how I could have miswritten it - instead, you idiotically cling to your original interpretation and claim that any attempt to settle any misinterpretations is "backtracking" - there's little point.

You certainly seem to have gotten unnerved on discovering that, having defended at length men who harass women into having sex with them, and argued that their behavior was all the woman's fault for not stopping them, you were acquiring an lj-wide reputation... as a man who defended sexual harassment and blamed it on women.

Wow, you're certainly reading a lot into that. If I was unnerved, I wouldn't be continuing to post on this. I have my opinions. I don't equate badgering with rape, and I think that anyone who does hurts all women in a way that's positively toxic.

If some people misinterpret what I say and are upset, that's fine. I'm also a babykiller, a conservative, a homo-hater, an uptight Christian, and closed-minded about sex. Fuck 'em.

I'm beginning to wonder if this whole discussion is some type of meme that was deliberately dropped into LJ. Like say a group of people who knew each other decided this was The Topic, and proceeded to make sure it got all over the most popular LJ's (like yours, for example) and then counted on it to spread by the viral nature of LJ and the hot-button nature of the topic.

That doesn't denigrate the seriousness of the topic, at all, but the sudden occurrence of it in multiple LJ's at once makes me wonder.

Actually, I think (assuming I started it) it's my old StarCityGames.com axiom: "The best way to get people to write on [topic X] is to write a bad article on it."

I think I was largely correct (I stated some things very unclearly, for those not familiar with me personally), but if you want to get people writing, write something they disagree with.
