Things That I have done latley [Jan. 3rd, 2008|09:56 am]
[My groove is | sore]

  • Saw Walking with Dinosaurs with Shannon (we had front row seats!) It was my christmas present from her.
  • Went To Asilomar with Shannon and her family
    • Hung around Carmel, Pacific Grove, and the like
    • Toured the Christmas bonanza 'round there
    • Made pretend that I had Shannon's cousin as a cape.
      • He intended to make it very authentic by locking his arms around neck and becoming dead weight. That was not so fun. He is not a little kid. He is 18 and probably weighs 220 lbs.

    • On our way out of Asilomar, Shannon and I took a little trip u to my cousin's house.
      • She and her boyfriend are constructing a fairly big house way up in the hills beyond Carmel Valley. We had to drive way way out until there was no more pavement, and then she came and and got us in a big truck to tack us the rest of the way. It was exciting and very pretty.

    • Our next stop was at Shannon's friends' new home farther north, off 101. It was also very pretty out there. Their house is already set up with a pen for when they get goats.

On Tuesday, I intended to make ice cream, but my plans were halted due to the fact that my body became immobile with intense pain. So instead I spent the day wanting to die, lying around, and having excruciating back spasms. Wednesday I went to the doctor and he said I'd probably be doing better in a few days. In the meantime he prescribed me a muscle relaxant and a painkiller. It still hurts, but I can get stuff done. So that's that.

Here are some pictures:

School is out for break! Hurrah!

Now I have all the time in the world until January. School starts back up on January 7th Work is super slow, so they're only letting me come in this Tuesday. Then starting Saturday the office will be closed until January 3rd.

So now I shall make a little list of things to do this break:

  • Grow my Christmas playlist

    • Current stats: 53 Albums; 226 Artists; 500 Tracks; 1 day, 3 hours, 41 minutes, 52 seconds; 2.27 GB

  • Watch movies. Like a fiend. My Netflix account has gone largely unused this semester, and I intend to make up for it.

  • Make art:

    • Draw (perhaps I should find a place to go draw models...)

    • Take photographs (I haven' done much in quite a while)

    • Make some progress on my next album. It is coming slowwwwwly.

    • Proof the Context Free Design book I am going to be published in!
    • other stuff...

[I'm experiencing |Cherry Blossom Inferno - Maldoror]

I listened to a great episode of Radio Lab yesterday. It's an excellent show and you should listen to it regularly.

Musical Language

Go, take an hour and listen. You'll thank me.

One of the segments is about the relationship between language and music from a neurological perspective. It reminded me of Harry Partch, a very interesting composer who created tonal systems based around human speech.

They also talk about music composed by a computer in the styles of various composers.
David Cope & Experiments in Musical Intelligence

Part of it is about the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, which I might go see a live performance of in March!

At one point they play a very short clip from Cherry Blossom Inferno by Maldoror, and I recognized it! That was sort of neat. It's noise. You wouldn't be interested.

Anyway, listen, do it!
