Considering I was/am in the clutches of a nasty throat and chest ug its not too bad, although my 3 stage turkish drop was some what less, as I was kinda lightheaded fo the flu meds. Dang, I was planning on that being quite the show stopper too!
Oh, and its always fun to star an event with a song that opens with the lyrics "Stick me with pins, peel away my skin, pluck out my eyes....you get the picture" Yay the spooky! LOL!
Please enjoy - feedback welcome.
The festival is over now and my workshops were wonderful, the PSEUDO SKIRT project was ***AWESOME*** I am so proud and truly impressed with the diversity and passion of Perth belly dancers and the welcoming community they are. It was an honor to dance with so many wonderful participants - in all the PseudoSkirt project had a troupe performance with 14 dancers! WOW. Considering they learnt the dance over the internet and we have ONE 4 hour rehearsal, it was nothing short of brilliant! I also did a second solo, as dance challenge. I had a cd with random gothness for the workshop, chose an arbitrary number and did that as a complte improv. By then I had/have no voice and was rather the cold greasy sweats but apparently I still did ok.
I'll post pictures and video of all as soon as I have copies.
Now, I'm of to drown in lemsip and get ready for a couple of days salon work at Wildilocks(.com) in Perth before I fly back. (oh and sorry if you see this more than once, I'm x-posting)
I am sending out roll call emails now so if you are wanting to be a PseudoSkirt-er at WAMED in Perth in Late September please email Ma'isah at raqsgothique@gmail.com asap.
PseudoSkirt is a free interactive cross country choreography experiment being performed in Perth (West Australia) in September 08 as part of WAMED. http://www.bellydancewa.com.au/wamed/
I am creating the video and audio support files for this choreography project now and will be contacting the PseudoSkirt gals privately from here on in.
I need contact info and a name and you troupe/tribe/school if applicable no later than the 23rd of this month, mass email with info and files goes out on the 25th. Sorry I did say I was going to get this out a little sooner, but I'm on my first annual leave in 11 years and its nice to have a holiday!
Information about the free gothic belly dance project PseudoSkirt for those in Perth or attending the WAMED festival is available for at my website: wwww.raqsgothique.com. And for those who don't care - here's a pic of my kittehs: moar funny pictures Blessings, Ma'isah
if you are in Melbourne and haven't made it out to the OMEDA festival then I urge you to do so - Sunday is the last day and there is so much to see and do (and buy!!) Be sure to check out the market place - its been deadly on my wallet this year. And the taster workshops have been awesome, I'm booked for the Bollywood tomorrow with Kelly Garland, and Maria Sangiorgi and Melissa Christini's workshops today were just brilliant. The PDF for the festival is at the OMEDA website: www.omeda.org.au
* Raqs Gothique will be highlighted on the marketplace stage with SerpentSkirt at 1.40(ish) pm, if you are considering auditioning for SerpentSkirt on the 28th of July then this is a great way to see us and check it out.
* Ma'isah's afternoon workshop "Slow Controlled Movements with Accents - the ultimate spooky workshop" is booked out! However if there are no-shows or any room available I will be able to accommodate a small number of extras on the day - so be sure to put your name down as a stand-by in case a place opens up!
* Both Bayside Hafla and the OMEDA Gala Dinner/Show were both awesome gigs, and we will have some new video for 08 (finally) up on the website as soon as possible - so stay tuned! And keep an eye out for more gigs as the year progresses - we have some dramatic new shows for you.
Hope to see you there! Ma'isah
(x-posted rather a bit - sorry if you see this one lots)
Heya, so as many of you already know I am teaching 2 workshops and performing at WAMED this year, in Perth WA in September. I was also invited to bring my troupe to Perth to dance as well, but this is too difficult this year, so I came up with what I think is a fun solution.
I want to gather any and all interested goth and goth-friendly belly dancers in Perth for the festival to learn a SerpentSkirt dance and perform with me in the market place on the Monday under the name PseudoSkirt.
We have a confirmed 12:30pm slot, all I need are interested dancers of all levels (although some belly dance basics will be required) who look the part and are open to learning a new dance FAST and performing with the group. its kind of an interactive goth fusion troupe challenge, and more fun than me dancing alone. (I already have solo slots in the performance night)
If yo are interested please post a comment here, and then email me: details at my website www.raqsgothique.com
Ma'isah [ps] Oh - and this is cross posted like lol kittehs get ping'd
* Preliminary auditions for dancers interested in joining Raqs Gothique's Serpentskirt ,Melbourne's own gothic fusion belly dance troupe, will be held Monday July the 28th 7:30pm - 9:30pm.
Interested candidates must meet pre requisite requirements, as outlined on the Raqs Gothique website.
Candidates should be willing to commit to weekly troupe training and perform, and selection will depend on completion of the preliminary audition and a second audition (by selection only) prior to selection by the troupe and leader Ma'isah.
The successful candidate will have good belly dance basics (at least 2 years), able to work with a group and under a strong leader, learn choreography fast and have a unique centered dance identity. Goth or goth friendly a major plus obviously.
Please read the full details for the auditions at www. raqsgothique.
and breathing although you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise. I owe some very dear people phone calls, and I know you may not believe it but I plan to make good on those.
in short:
* Raqs Gothique has a troupe again - Serpentskirt. And no more weekly classes, just workshops, so big changes in the land of gothic belly dance for me but all for the best. And I have some high profile gigs happening this year - more posts to come.
* The new job @ Wildilocks is not so new now that its been 6 months but it is still so very awesome, (see our model call in the melb goth community) but has meant major restructuring of my life - but then thats what I asked for so...yup, I got everything I wanted with this job, yay for me!
* James and I are still very happy and all is well, he is my best friend and lover and confidant, and we have now got matching gym memberships - yup, I go to the gym. (you should see pasty ol'me at the gym too! heeheheheeee!)
* I have met and am slowing getting to know my Dad after 25 years apart. thats a long story but its exciting, scary and all manner of other complex emotions. Slow and steady does it, I'm kinda wary, but overall feel very positive about it.
'Kay thats me, apart from the cats getting bigger, so what about you? Wazzup?
Hello all, Just a short update to tell you about some upcoming performances and workshops by Ma'isah, as well as a reminder about new classes and some website updates. Hope to see you at one or more of these wonderful events. Blessings, Ma'isah

What radio stations/programs and concerts/festivals IN AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND could you recommend for independant artists of this vibe: http://kannal.org/ sounds clips on site - to me they are a cross between VAST and The Tea Party with a belly-freindly vibe
I have JJJ, RRR, + Big Day Out and Rainbow Serpent, but a bad back prevents me from sitting upright too long to research today. Linkks would be great! All help appreciated!
My car just got towed. A repeat of the electrical fire of 4 months ago. Still under warranty - yay! Should have car back by the weeked - if all goes well. (crosses fingers)
Home today with a very sad and sorry back. Pulled something at work on Tuesday, after a month of very long work hours and lots of dance, my back has been great, but a few 12+ hoiurs days and killer dance workshops with Rachel Brice was my undoing. Actullay a set of foils were my undoing but I set it up well.
Work tomorrow at Vic Uni, then back in the salon Saturday and Sunday. Depending on how my back feels I may have to cover my Monday and Tuesday night dance classes as well next week, just to be safe. I forget I have a buldging disc that needs more love than I give it when I get busy.
Cancelled my gig for the next 2 weekends. Must update site. One more in December and thats it for the year, I get too busy with work and classes.
Got to go updatee my website, but siting is unplesant. Will do it in a bit - I need to lie down, my back is really hurting. (waaa)
