4.1 - Follow-up on Blade of the Immortal
OK, I couldn't stand it any longer. I went into Photoshop and rearranged the panels on the second BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL example to see what I THINK (emphasis on that THINK!) the original panels looked like. [ edit ] There's confirmation in the comments that I got them right. I r so smrt!

First, the panels the way I think they looked like in Japan. Read from the far right over to the far left.

And now ... hey, there's a very definite path of action! You lose that nifty effect where the arrows lined up on both pages, but in return you get a very clear flow of action throughout the page:

Sweet!

I have the un-flipped, unedited, but in Chinese, tankoubouns of blade of the immortal. So, give me a volume and page number, and I can tell you if you got it right XD (there are too many scenes of ambush and shocked eyes for penguin to go through, volume by volume...plus penguin has two finals back to back tomorrow)

Volume 13, pp. 26-27. I think. Dark Horse doesn't number the pages, and I'm not sure where page 1 would start. It's near the end of the chapter 'Autumen Frost Part 1', the first chapter in the book.

oh dear, volume 13 for my tanks include "Final Blood" "Vomit" and "Who is he?" parts only...

As it turned out, your page is something like page 86 of volume 10 for me >_<

But YES! you got the frames right :OOOOOOOOOOO

Man, you obviously have more of the story than I do right now. We've only got to "Crossroads." Dark Horse is putting them out as monthly cmics and only putting out collections when they've got enough, so it's SLOW and the suspense is DRIVING me INSANE. When they put out the collection that included all of the chapters where Whatsherface was getting tortured, it meant I spent well over a year without getting a Manji fix. I ought to jsut break down and subscribe to the comics, but since they're ahead of the collections, I'd end up missing a few chapters. Arg! Oh well, next one out in June.

Thank you!

*whine*!!! *envy*

Sometime I think it'd just be quicker to learn Chinese or Japanese and read it than to wait for Dark Horse to trickle it out. XD

I think, once I've slept some more, I'll go through and read all these entries. I've been bad and only glanced them over in my tiredness. Looks like stuff I could benefit from, even if I don't plan on doing a manga.

OMG HOW DARE U IGNORE MEEE!!! :)

I think the idea about all the lines leading the eye around is important, even when it's a pinup or a still picture - an artist once told me (And it might have been Brian Stelfreeze, but I don't remember) that when he did a picture, he was in complete control of the reader's eye, and he composed the picture to reveal things one-by-one as you looked around it. It might have been Brian when he was doing that Harley Quinn picture at AggieCon a few years back - it had Harley lounging in a pinup pose, but as you looked at it, you gradually realized that the patterns behind her were actually the Joker's legs.

It's a bastardized quotation from The Simpsons, where Homer chants "I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T. Uh, S-M-A-R-T!"

XD Couldn't quite tell what your tone of "voice" was there. :)

I once gave my dad a button that said "I AM ERUDITER THAN YOU" and he argued, in all sincerity, that it should be "I AM MORE ERUDITE THAN YOU" thus proving once more how the subtle implications of jokes often zipped right over his head.
