Today in an effort to distance myself a little from unhappiness and the general calamity of my school-life, I'm taking a few hours to watch Monster. Because fuck having to write an essay a week and fuck how boring my plant biology class is.

I have an incredible admiration for Daniel Day Lewis as he is an actor who exudes class in all ways. He's the reason why I even bothered to watch Gangs of New York and the main reason why I was upset at missing out on a free screening of There Will Be Blood. I want to catch up with his filmography and I hope time allows me the ability to do so in the upcoming months.

I've been following Liverpool's progress pretty closely but am sick to my stomach about all of the problems plaguing the club and I've realized that this year with the stress of school and other things, my ability to handle the bad has been vastly diminished. It's at times like this that I wished I had another club to rely heavily on in another league instead of being non-committal about a lot of them.

Real Madrid is apparently points and point above number two Barcelona, Inter has been doing well although their point-distance at the top of the table has been dropping. I caught up with the Guardian blogs and there's just so much going on and the whole situation at Deportivo de la Coruña interests me a lot. They're in the bottom two, in danger of being relegated and I'm pretty sure I'll die if Andres Guardado goes down with him. He's been playing brilliantly and I so want him to go on to bigger and better things. I'm crossing my fingers that he continues to play well, that Deportivo don't slink down into relegation and that in the upcoming years he plays on a bigger stage.

I started reading Bleach, because I'm a masochistic moron. I really enjoy the story and the characters so far. Despite the slow progression of the plot, the mangaka's drawing and writing style is quick and clean enough that the chapters go by quickly and I don't feel like I'm dredging along even though it's been three volumes of more or less nothing.

I've stalled in my viewing of Monster because things keep popping up. I hate stopping in the middle of an episode to do things and I have a feeling I should put aside at least enough time to watch a couple of episodes worth of the upcoming arc and it just hasn't been happening. I'm anxious to find out more about Grimmer and I want to know more about the twins.

The scanlations of 21st Century Boys have been continuing. I have to re-read from the beginning in order to get back into the swing of these newly released chapters but there's apparently some panels of Otcho looking like a total badass and that's all I really need to hear.

I've been going through and downloading all of the shitty yaoi manga I can get my hands on. I've read something like 3 gigs worth just this past weekend and out of everything, only about 5-10 of the stories I read were actually worth keeping. The rest were full of the typical, boring tropes or the artwork was so terrible it rendered the story unreadable.

I watched Howl's Moving Castle for the first time and fell in love with it. Usually when I read about the never-ending brilliance, the staggering genius, the unavoidable charm, etc, etc, of any kind of artist it makes me skeptical but Miyazaki is an exception. I always feel...reassured when I watch him movies. I feel like I've been able to retain small segments of my childhood despite allowing myself to grow up. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that properly but that's the best I can come up with. There's always that theme of redemption and love but the way he handles love, with such a soft touch - it's probably what I love the most about his style. And please, Takuya Kimura as Howl? ♥

I've been listening to the score from A Knight's Tale almost constantly for the past half week. St. Vitus' Dance, Cooked Patents and The Showdown are arguably the best tracks, meshing anachronistic elements together really well. The pan pipes and warbly electric guitar shouldn't work well together but I think they do here along with the use of tambourines and economic touches of drums. Carter Burwell's a smart composer - he has the ability to mesh whimsy into his more serious pieces and the compositions I've heard of his tend to really stand out for me. The Gods and Monsters score is one of my all-time favourites.

Lastly, I've been indulging in terrible, amazing reality shows. Make Me A Supermodel is the undisputed favourite not really because of what it's about but because of the contestants and Tyson Beckford, whose blog is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things ever. His commentary is priceless and fantastic. I kind of also like the voting aspect of the show. It brings a thread of excitement (and disappointment) to the show. For the most part, it's really the boys who steal the show.

Perry, Frankie, Casey, Ronnie, Ben - they're all fantastic to watch. The odd sexual tension between Ronnie and Ben is morbidly fascinating, especially given the fact Ben's a newlywed and supposedly straight. The amount of playing along and flirting that goes on between him and Ronnie really makes you question whether it's really just a large amount of confidence in his sexuality or if maybe there's something more.

Out of everyone, Frankie's look is the most instantly striking. He's a gorgeous, gorgeous boy and has a beautiful, androgynous kind of face but oh, god he can have the shittiest, brattiest personality ever. Ronnie is much too earnest for his own good and gets accused of being 'too cheesy' but I really think it's because he's just a good boy. Maybe a little too good and too nice to be a model. I hate to think of him actually falling for Ben, although their relationship is currently one of the points of interest to watch develop. Perry is definitely hands down my #1 to win the whole thing. He has the walk, the confident attitude without being an asshole and he has the look. Polish him up a bit and you can drop him into any Prada ad. Casey definitely has a model-esque look but his walk is atrocious. He really needs to work on it because he looks like a stiff, frightened mannequin everytime he's on the catwalk. Ben also needs to work on not looking like a prison guard (which he is!) but I also think the vaguely alien-esque look he has works well for the catwalk and for high-fashion so we'll see. They all have potential.

Out of the girls, I'm thinking Jackie is currently at the forefront but I'm really liking Stephanie and Shannon is growing on me. I really like Shannon's look and her legs go on for miles, it's kind of ridiculous.



This is the now infamous Perry & Casey photoshoot. Set to J.C. Chasez' All Day Long I Dream About Sex - which immediately makes it the most hilarious thing I've seen today. I seriously cannot stop laughing throughout the entire thing. The photoshoot itself was pretty attractive and you can tell they had a lot of fun with it - whipping, licking, biting and generally being dorks with each other. They were both so confident and comfortable as the shoot progressed that I think even their badass photographer was impressed.

Jackie/Stephanie, Perry/Casey and Shannon/Ronnie's are all up and definitely worth watching. Along with the contestants blogs and Tyson's, Outzone's are the ones to read. Seriously you guys, I love this stupid show. :(

In between news about AC Milan's interest in America's Memo Ochoa, Sex Pistols lolzery (I will tell you about that particular manga in detail later, tl__dr!) and listening to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack reading up on the most recently Anita Blake novel and the upcoming one is making me laugh like a fucking mofo. I haven't read The Harlequin yet but apparently Anita has BIRD!SEX!

Bangkok Love Story (เพื่อน...กูรักมึงว่ะ)

To be perfectly honest, I allowed myself to have some expectations in regard to this film and in the end I discovered that expectations aren't good to have for stories like these.

The good:

• There are some shots, short little moments so still and perfect it made me cringe that they were in this film. High quality versions of the screencaps I'd be able to take would do better justice but I don't have them available to me. With all of the flaws in the editing, there are some scenes , however short, that are breathtaking. I think I read in the wiki article for the film that the cinematography was praised for making Bangkok a character in the film and they were right. The dirty greens and greys, the blues bleeding to slate into the concrete, the watered down city was the best character in the film; one of the reasons I'm even bothering to write about this movie.

AND THAT'S ALL I MANAGED TO WRITE BEFORE I GAVE UP BECAUSE LOLAIDS. :((((

Things I have seen/read/listened to/read about today:

• yaoi manga about a guy so poor he's actually thinking about eating his potted flower plant, goes to lick the petals and BAM! the petal is suddenly a penis and he's blowing the flower fairy. Insert really awful attempts at puns involving stamens and ~*~nectar~*~ I wish I was making this up.

• Apparently in the new COAT video, (COAT is a jporn company for those curious) Nagi and Sho look like too much of a couple and Nagi is great at his job or something. SOMEWHAT DISTRESSING FOR REASONS THAT MAKE ME TINHATTY. D: D: D:

• Samurai Champloo doujinshi is fail except when it has pictures of prostitute!Jin looking hot and Mugen being oblivious as fuck.

• I'm on episode 23 of Monster. Things are happening and I'm such a hardcore Tenma!wife.

• Kano Miyamoto seems to churn out chapters like candy. Either that or I don't pay enough attention. I think I've read everything of hers that's been translated and I always want to read more. I don't even know. Typical angst whore syndrome.

• Fuck the Premiership. The end.

• My journal's birthday is in march. Three whole years. It seems longer.

• DJ PICTURES LIKE THIS MAKE ME CRY. GOD. AS IF MY TASTE LEVELS WEREN'T ALREADY IN THE GUTTER NOW I'M :D OVER INUYASHA. FUCK OFF.

• I want to go to the movies but I don't want to see Atonement. The dress is gorgeous, the story seems annoying.

A few weeks ago, I watched In Between Days, another heartbreaker but for so many reasons other than the usual. I could take ages to talk about what I loved about the movie and the things that disturbed me. I could talk about the muteness of the entire thing, the crunch of snow. Instead, I'm going to quote from the actors bio on the official website because the boy, Taegu Andy Kang, first-time actor just like the lead, is unintentionally hilarious.

Taegu, age 21, was born and raised in South Korea, then immigrated to Canada in 1999. He is currently studying Jewelry Design at the George Brown College in Toronto. His ambition is to specialize in engagement and wedding rings. His inspiration to be a jewelry designer came from his mother who encouraged him to do something creative with his life. When So and Brad first approached him at a dance club in Toronto after one in the morning, Taegu thought that they were making a pornographic film. He said 'yes' anyway because he still wanted to be in a movie even if it might have turned out to be a porn.

EVEN IF IT MIGHT HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE A PORN. I just - boys like that kill me, y'know? Stories about boys, thoughtless, cynical, hopeless boys kill me. I watch so many of them, I read so many of them and they're still my favourite. I don't know what this says about me but it must be pointing at some direction I've yet to see. Disenchanted youth living in melancholy. Story of my fucking life when it comes to film or anything else.

Cap everything off with Asobi Seksu and I'm all in.

I don't really know what it is but I really do need my protagonists to suffer. Whether it's some deep emotional pain, unrequited love or physical pain, I can't love them fully unless they're hurting or already broken.

Case in point: Election 2 (黑社會以和為貴). Yes, it's a Triad movie. Yes, it's Johnnie To. Yes, I fucking love mafia/triad/yakuza movies more than almost anything else ever. And yes, the protagonists suffer.

koba_sama and I watched this first and later went back to watch Election but the damage had been done and Election 2 sticks in my mind as being better than the original. Louis Koo was fantastic. Frightening in the most perfect of ways and he could carry off the suit.




It doesn't happen very often with film but after watching this, I wanted to write for them. The characters that died or were left to internally rot.

I signed up for a Goodreads account and I've been adding books like crazy. I'm up to 99 and it's only the tip of the iceburg because I'm seriously so ocd, I'll probably write down every ISBN I have available to me at home and come back to add them to to my list. It's kind of fun to see how many books I've read (that I can remember) in the past however many years. :D:

First off: Oh, Fergie Ferg, there aren't enough snarky comments to add to this. The story pretty much speaks for itself.

Second: CAPELLO IT IS! How will this change the English squad? How much improvement will there be? Will there be any? Will Capello harass Lampsy on being a fatty? Third: Nery Castillo to ManCity. I'd hoped that Nery would play well at Shakhtar Donetsk, but there were so many things about that move that were no good. The fact that he very publicly didn't want to transfer and his club sold him anyway, the language barrier, loads of other things that I can't begin to make excuses for. He's a brilliant, dynamic play but he couldn't adapt. He was a fantastic player for Olympiakos so I'm hoping he does well for ManCity. I am seriously crossing my fingers. Nery is one of the Mexican NT players that I've been trying (and partially failing) to keep track of. Along with Andrés Guardado and Giovanni dos Santos, he's one of my glittering hopes for the future of the National Team so it's almost as if I need him to do well.

Extras: Figo refuses to return to the Portuguese NT. There was apparently a petition of 5000+ fans asking him to return which he sadly turned down. Just let the man rest already, Jesus. He did his part, what more could they possibly want?
