The New Year
The bare house yawns at the unadorned Christmas tree in the mundane emptiness of an early January afternoon
I scrape some dried cookie dough off the Kitchenaid and ready my glittery party dress for the cleaner’s
The mailman has brought a final trickle of late, stray holiday greetings from far-off friends I wish would visit
And the blank new year feels like a stiff pair of new shoes when I’d rather wear my old comfortable ones |
