    Hey, folks,
I'm leaving for Germany tomorrow and probably won't have internet access until I'm settled in school (probably Monday). Don't expect to hear from me much. I'm gone for six weeks.

    New devotional available
    Hi, Folks,

I'm cross-posting this to several lists so my apologies if you receive this more than once. My new devotional is just out. It's called "Feeding the Flame" and is a devotional to Loki and His family. It's an anthology of international contributions including poetry, prayers, rituals, recipes and more. Right now, it's available at http://www.cauldronfarm.com/market/books.html and www.lulu.com. In a few weeks it'll be up at amazon.

call for submissions for another new devotional (yes, i'm working on two now...three actually)
    Hi, Folks,

I’m cross-posting this to several lists so my apologies if you receive it more than once.

I am currently working on a devotional to Inanna and Ereshkigal. I’m Heathen but I owe a great and long-standing debt to these two Goddesses and this devotional is my way of repaying it.

I am looking for submissions of poetry/prayers, articles and rituals to these two Deities. (I will accept material to other Sumerian Deities as well, if it's good. I have no problem with including a section for Them).

This book will be published through Asphodel Press.

If anyone is interested in submitting prayers, poems, articles or rituals, please email me at urdabrunnr@yahoo.com OR Krasskova@gmail.com. Unfortunately, I can’t pay for submissions, but I will send every contributor a copy of the book when it is finished.

Deadline for ALL Submissions is August 1, 2008.

    Thanks!

    Call for submissions
    Hi, Folks,

I am currently working on a devotional to Mani and Sunna and other Norse Cosmological Deities (Dagr, Nott, even Jord).
I am looking for submissions of poetry/prayers, articles and rituals to these Deities.

This book will include daily rituals for each day of the week, so material for the Gods and Goddesses associated with each individual day is also appropriate (Monday: Mani, Tuesday: Tyr, Wednesday: Woden, Thursday: Thor, Friday: Frigga or Freya –scholars disagree, Sunday: Sunna. I’m not sure what the original attribution for Saturday was as only the Roman (Saturn) has survived. I’ll be researching this). Additionally, I’m seriously considering including a section on seasonal rites.

If anyone is interested in submitting prayers, poems, articles or rituals, please email me at urdabrunnr@yahoo.com OR Krasskova@gmail.com. Unfortunately, I can’t pay for submissions, but I will send every contributor a copy of the book when it is finished.

Deadline for ALL Submissions is September 1, 2008.

    Thanks!

    Call for submissions
    Hi, folks,

I'm posting this in several places so my apologies if you see it more than once. A colleague and friend of mine is writing a book and is looking to include material from all different religions. She is an interfaith minister and graduate of The New Seminary (TNS). Here is her call for submissions:

    Dear Brethren and Sistren:
I have decided to write a book about miraculous experiences, from an
interfaith perspective. It is my thesis that all people experience miracles in
their lives (but most of us are afraid to talk about them for fear of being
    considered "crazy").
I am seeking miracle stories from people of all religions. TNS alumni
seemed a logical place to start. If you choose to be included in my book, you
will be given a contributor' s copy. You may be given credit as a contributor,
under your real name, if you choose to, or you may use a pseudonym. I will also
change "identifying characteristics" if you ask me to.
If you do wish to participate, I will ask you to answer the following
    questions:

    1. What is your personal definition of the word "miracle?" (There's no right
or wrong answer; I just want to know what it means to you).

    2. Have you (or someone in your close circle; friend or family member)
experienced a miracle directly? If so, what was it?

    3. If you have experienced a miracle (directly or close second-hand) did it
change your life in any lasting way? Did it strengthen your faith?

4, Do you expect to experience more miracles?

    5. (Demographic questions):

    a. What is your sex/gender identity?

    b. What is your age? (Or age-range; it's okay to say something like
"twenty-thirty- forty-fifty- something" or whatever fits).

    c. What is your primary religious path? If you have a secondary and/or
tertiary religious path, what is that?

    Thanks, blessings and well-wishes,

    Francesca

please email your responses to her directly at fmfortunato at aol.com.

    So, ladies...

How would y'all describe gender roles in Heathenry/Asatru? What has your own experience been? How is deviation from traditional roles handled? What is the role of a Heathen woman?

I was talking/debating with someone today and the topic came up...

    quick update
Well, i've returned from Europe. Paris was beautiful and Rothenburg like something out of a fairy tale. :) I can't wait to go back. We also visited Nurenburg and Wiesbaden and visited friends in Frankfurt. It was a GOOD vacation!

I finally got my grades for the fall term: A- in Anthropology and (mirabile dictu) an A in Religious Theory. ^___^ I'm very, very pleased. The spring term begins next week and i'm looking forward to classes.

I just submitted two papers to an academic journal and a book proposal to New Page. *fingers crossed*.

and that's all the news that's fit to print for now.

    Happy Oski's Day.
In Switzerland and Germany today is St. Nicholas Day. Children leave out their shoes which are then filled with small gifts and adults often exchange traditional gifts of figs, sweets and beeswax candles.

Since the figure of St. Nicholas became conflated with that of Santa Claus and since the latter is a folklorized version of Odin, some Heathens I know celebrate today as Oski's Day...Odin as Wishbringer.

I like this custom (not only because I just got a box of loot either!): reclaiming festive days. So, for all those Norse Pagans and Heathens out there: Happy Oski's Day!

*snorts* a new kindred has formed....
    Sooooooooooo

it seems there's a new kindred that just formed in Kansas. It has the questionable name of (i kid you not) "Jotun's Bane Kindred."

Fuensanta and I couldn't help but laugh. What hubris! After all, just where do they think most of these people are going to end up? Not Valhalla. Most will go to Hela's hall. This, of course is given no thought. One wonders what the denizens of said hall will think when the leader of Jotun's Bane Kindred enters.

It's like those people that think they can stop the fury of the wild hunt by waving a sprig of parsley. You just have to laugh. heh.

Apparently, the name was chosen in honor of Thor's Hammer. Well, a few points to remember:

the hammer was duergar forged, gifted by Jotun hands and is not used indiscriminately against all Jotun kind but against those that threaten Asgard specifically.

Many of the Aesir have quite a bit of Jotun blood. In fact, scratch an As find a Jotun. And it shows. Odin is every bit as vicious, cunning, clannish and ruthless as the most maligned of Jotunfolk. What should all this teach us? To stay the hell out of our Gods politics and to have a little respect!
