Frickin’ awesome!!! I want to go next year. I loved most seeing so many people in different costumes. JoCo rocked, as usual--and FreezePop, the OneUps, and Anamanaguchi were pretty cool too. More to come. Pictures too! I got pix with some hot booth babes!! Oh, yeah!

Seriously, I love this city! Alright, so a few restaurant recommendations if you get chance to come out here:
- De Nunzio’s - Frickin’ cool place, especially the Niokko (sic?). You tell them what you’re in the mood for, and they’ll make something awesome based on that. You could just order off the menu too, which is cheaper, but not nearly as fun.
- Ipanema - Brazilian meat!!!!!!!!!! It’s awesomeness. The cool thing is that they have these servers running around the restaurant with meat on a stick, and you have a card that has red on one side, and green on the other. When the green side is up, that’s the message to the servers that they should stop by your table to offer you some super-fresh off the grill meat. A lot of it is still boiling water right off the grill!
Oh, and if you plan ahead enough in time, you could possibly find some super cheap lodging at the Green Tortoise Hostel, that is if you don’t mind having some roommates. I reserve my opinion because I won’t be there to stay until the 24th/25th. I’ll post about it though, promise.

Woohoo!! Last night was very, very interesting. I ended up at a shelter (couldn’t get home), and wrote a few pages about the experience. I really missed my laptop. I’ll be posting my write-up soon.

Anti-vaxers are anti-science

I found out today that one of my co-workers is a anti-vaccination. She has kids of her own, and I have no idea if she’s vaccinated them or not, but she spreads the myth that vaccines cause autism. I wanted to yell and scream at her, but I told her as politely as possible the truth. She protested a bit, and also said, “You’re the son of a doctor, aren’t you?” I mentioned how that shouldn’t matter. Hopefully everyone that heard us will find the truth. I find anti-vaxers to be highly immoral in their stance, even if they can’t comprehend that immorality. I wish I could say that it was an April Fools joke.

I hate my job. I think I've been too introspective the last few weeks, and I'm not so sure that's healthy for me. Part of the problem is that I don't really know too many people at work so I usually feel rather isolated. Maybe it's my imagination, but everyone else seems to know someone, and this includes other people I know are new to the place like myself. Of course, part of the problem is that I've never really truly been a part of Fond du Lac. This fucking city. It's useless.

Blind-sided by the pretty ones...

Okay, so I was blind-sided and practically jumped on by some girls trying to buy some Hermit crabs today. It started out with just one, and then her friends practically ganged up on me. I tried to resist, but they were persistent. I was curious about the Hermit crabs, so I went with them to see them, and once we got there, they somewhat surrounded me, and prevented me from leaving until I relented. *sigh*

Stuff, mostly about a (non)Revolution

I feel like I should post about something right now. I’m up in Appleton at the moment, and had some ideas, but I want to flesh them out before I post them. I guess I’m just going to intrigue you for now. One of my ideas was kinda sexually explicit in nature--and completely fictional, for your information. I’m not even sure why I thought of it. The other is about our need for a revolution that’s not happening right now, and how people may well perceive a problem or problems, but are not sufficiently discomfited by them to act towards a solution. There needs to be a comfortable amount of discomfort for them to do anything, and possibly do something drastic. Of course, there’s always going to be individuals who act upon advancing a solution in spite of not having a sufficient amount of discomfort, but they are the exception, not the rule. I was initially going to use the TomboyBlogposter plugin to post this (I really like Tomboy), but I can’t figure out how to get it to work with LiveJournal.

JavaScript 2.0?

I guess JavaScript 2.0 is coming out soon.I have to confess something. I really like JavaScript, and it likely has a lot to do with the fact that it was my first programming language (and I taught it to myself). Really, though, it’s not as bad as most people like to make it out to be. Sure, it’s not the most elegant language, but it works well for what it can do, and has a decent standard library. The changes for 2.0 are looking really nice, though.

An article in the most recent issue of Seed Magazine (February 2008), Nicholas Humphrey posits the following in the article Questioning Consciousness (pp. 32): [Consciousness’] role may not be to enable us to do something we could not do otherwise, but rather to encourage us to do something we would not do otherwise... It’s an interesting article to say the least, and definitely something I would encourage you to check out. It may well be part of what has allowed our species to do such amazing things throughout history.

So, these late night commercials advertising “chat lines” are as transparent as saran wrap. “I’m not looking for a commitment!” says one girl in lingerie. They’re just chat lines for bored people, right? I actually really like TheTruth campaign. Somewhat ironically, at the same time I support the legalization of drugs, and the end to the War on Drugs. The thing is that I don’t care if people use these things, but they damn well better know what that stuff will do to their bodies. Anybody that sells any of this stuff should, I think, have brutally honest advertising about the drugs they sell, and how it effects the human body and mind.
