This is
bellygothposting for melanie. I just got off the phone with Mel an here is the latest news:
They are ok and armed and defending the bar. They plan on staying at the bar until the police make them leave or until the situation with the electricity looks too bleak. The quarter isn't flooding yet and so far they still have gas at the bar so they've been cooking what perishables they have left. If you want to leave a message for them on here I will get it to them the next time they call/get in contact....
Here are a list of other people that are at the bar with her and Andy:
shy. marc the shark, sadie ,levi aura, bill, van, leslie, matt , keith (from the dervish and his girlfriend)

thanks so much for posting this!!
Jesus, it sounds like a zombie movie.
Glad to hear they're holding up okay; the news reports have been ambiguous and conflicting on how bad the quarter is. If Mel and her man want to make good on that threat to show up on my doorstep, now might be an opportune time.
I'm not a close personal friend. At best, I'm just another annoying tourist who gets blotto at the Dervish and Flanagan's from time to time, and sometimes when I'm good and trashed I think I annoy Andy.
I caught the last post as the hurricane descended, and the pure brass balls of it gave me a lump in the throat.
So thank you. I know that many here replying will know these two better than I ever have, and if your update makes ME feel this good, I know their friends will be fucking ecstatic. I've been worried sick, and to think those two kids held their own against that Katrina bitch... damn, that feels good.
With any luck, I can go back when everything is ready and hoist a few more with those two kickass rockin' bastards.
Much love to both,
That Bald Guy Who Talks About Tattoos Too Much and his Ninja Fiancee.
You said what I was thinking, but quite a bit more cogently.

HA! Awesome!
That's good to hear- thanks, Molly- I was worried about them. I'm glad they're all right and have plenty of booze to wait this mess out with.
Even when the water runs out, I'm sure they've got plenty of oj, cranberry juice, and other such drinkables. Part of the benefit of being holed up in a bar/restaurant.
(Not that I'm not still worried sick).
i've had many good times (as a tourist, i admit)
at Flanagan's and the Dervish (back to the days
when it was the Crystal). the thought that all the
people are alive and well and ballsy as all get-out
gives me hope that the NOLA that i know and love
will survive and continue to be one of the few places
around in which i feel at home.
good luck, best wishes, and thank you.
if there's still some Wild Turkey left, please have
a round on me. i'll pay up my tab in a few months
at both bars :)
thank god y'all are all right. we miss you and our thoughts are with you. we have had various news channels on all day and have been worried sick. joel and i lifted much hooch to all our friends still in nola just a moment ago.
they're saying now that everyone will be forced to leave, and that the city'll be without power for two months and colleges/schools won't be opening back up for three months. some folks at joel's old work high up on poydras says he can see folks on canal looting, shooting each other, snipers shooting looters, looters shooting cops, cops shooting looter, etc. whoa... i hope you have lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of ammo at the bar.
stay safe, loves.
Could you PLEASE contact her at funkyegret@yahoo.com to get her address (unless you already know where Poppy Z Brite lives) and I beg you as best as a virtual stranger can to please check up on the animals in her "animal sanctuary". I know it's in the heart of New Orleans.
On a personal note, what's the name of the bar?
625 St. Philip Street • New Orleans, LA 70116
504-598-9002
I'm pretty sure that's the one..
Though the chances of them getting Uptown to check on cats are slim to none, and I'm thinking that Slim is headed right the fuck outta town. It looks absolutely brutal out there, and I'm multiple states away...gawds know what they're really dealing with. Looters shooting police, debatable levels of flooding, martial law...I love me some kitties, but I can't fault anyone for looking out for #1 first.
Andy, Melanie, Shy and everyone camped at Flanagan's....stay armed and dangerous! And thanks to Molly for the update!
Hey Keith!
matt at highlandergraphics.com
if you've got the ammo.
;)
Any word on Micah
Eric
PS: Any idea what's going on in the area near Verti Marte? Kinda wondering if my old apartment is underwater or not.
Tell both of them I love them, and say hey to Mark the Shark. I used to work with him. :)

If you have friends or family that are stuck in NOLA and the surrounding areas this is the official number to call. Be prepared to try to call several times... everyone is calling these numbers.
If you can contact your friends get the exact address of where they are at or where they are going to be for when you call search and rescue. tell them if they have to leave to call you asap. You can update the OEP at commo1@ohsep.louisiana.gov
Cell phone communication is extremely limited, but Text messaging on Verizon, Cingular and Sprint networks appear to be working.
If you get in touch with your friends they need to do the following
1) They need a white sheet on the roof of a building
2) They need to wave something to notify the helicopter that they need to be rescued.
3) If it is at night they need to use flash lights to signal the helicopter.
4) They need to stay at the highest point.
-Thank You
payne is in missouri and safe.
Just letting you know that this post was printed in the British newspaper The Times today, page 7, "Survivors' Stories". Seems the latest craze in newspaper journalism here is to reprint stuff from blogs. It's pretty rare for them to find lj, though. Be impressed with your fame!
I am Bruno from the german band "Das Ich". I try to set up with a few magazines and labels a help and donation but we want ot navigate it more straight to the goth scene of this sunken beauty. So can you tell me about the former goth community of New Orleans, how big it was , what happened to the goth people and the places like morgue and shim sham club and all these little stores. Is there still underground people you guys know in New Orleans. How many got savely evacuated and to where.
For the magazines it would be helpful to fundraise with personal stories.
We really want to help from Europe but unfortunately the US govermental paces don t show to much about the tragedy and Bushs official comment about help from Europe is "We can handle this without you"
Yours truly, we send our pryers to you
