    Drinks at Quinns friday
Before I head back to York (this Sunday) I was wondering if anyone fancies a drink at Quinns (Kentish town road a bit further up than the Dev) this Friday. At 7ish?

"We were singing in the rain"
My wonderful boyfriend Glenn treated me to a new model army ticket for christmas. It was a fabulous and much apreciated present. Yay! We went to the astoria last night and they were amazing as ever. Chucked myself into the mosh pit (my main christmas vice!) and got very sweaty. It is always such a lovely atmosphere at army gigs. The guitar solos never fail to leave a lump in my throat and I was up to my eyeballs on adrenaline by the end of the night. I was really chuffed that they played 'Ballad of Bodmin Pill' which is one of my favourite tracks. And they played two really good encores which included 'poison street' another one of my favourite tracks and probably my favourite love song which was fitting as I went with Glenn (apologies for gushiness).

The only irritation of the night was receiving harrasment in the toilets from a woman trying to charge me for soap to wash my hands and constantly chanting 'freshen up, lollypop' whilst I was trying to use the loo. Why bother to have a toilet attendant at a folk/punk gig?

I will be at Blood and Velvet tonight at some point so will hopefully catch up with some people there.

    Sweaty hugs!

Don't really know what to post as it has been a while and a lot has happened in 12 weeks. I appear to have made friends slightly easier than I thought thanks mainly to the goth scene. Am sitting in the house of a goth/metal girl called sophia who fed me tea and let me use her non parented web connection. Yay. Miss all my london friends will be back next thursday and about next weekend.

Really sleepy and keep feeling that as term ends I am getting lathargic and slacking a bit but I think everyone is. My job is great and the art department are lovely. I have done some chemical paintings with the chemistry department that came out really well and were great fun. I have made lots of sculptures but am struggling to find exhibition space. I showed a lot outside london last year but then I could borrow my grandad and his car to get me and my work to places. I should really learn to drive but work is hectic.

I am enjoying teaching the sixth form because they are really enthusiastic and creative and have interesting ideas and I like doing sculpture activities with younger kids because working with them is fun. Seem to spend a lot of time clearing up after both the younger ones and the sixth form though which is not so fun!

Have been to a few goth nights. Darklands is good, it is small but the music is good and people are friendly. Wendy house on the other hand is only good if you are completely pissed

Wish I could think of more to write but my brain is very sleepy and I have a long day tomorrow I am helping with learning support wednesday mornings (9am) it is a biology lesson and the school has some cute lizard type things in tanks including this wierd thing that has gills and undeveloped lungs which dosen't reach adult maturity. A snake and a lizard of some form. However I have to help so cant spend all lesson going ahhhhhhhh at the critters. I might be helping the sixth form in the afternoon (if any turn up) and then I teach life drawing till 9pm and clearing up after takes till 9:40

See you all soon, Big hugs

    confessions of a hoarder
This is a trivial post but here goes
one of my pointy bat boots has a hole in the side so I think that means the pair is now unwearable :( I don't buy boots very often and get very attatched to the ones I have. I also feel very guilty if I have to throw things away it seems wastefull even if the things in question have become unusable! The bottom of my wardrobe has become a boot graveyard and contains 3 pairs that are too knackered to wear, but I can't bring myself to throw any of them out!

I am going to take the bat boots to the local boot mender today and see if the broken one is fixable. If not I guess its one more for the boot graveyard.

I could reuse the buckles for something maybe
Not sure what I could do with the leather

    riding
had another riding lesson today. I wish I had never given up. I love horses and riding will always be my favourite sport. Today I rode Eclipse. She is a gorgeous black cob, really sweet and gentle but a bit stubborn. I have lost a lot of the balance that I used to have. My rising trot was clumsy and I bounced all over the place when I cantered. Poor Eclipse having to put up with me bouncing all over her back, Shamefull! The instructor punished me for my years of being an unfit student by removing my stirrups and making me do sitting trot to improve my possition. Muscels I had forgotten about hurt now but I hope next week my seat and balance will be better, and in a few months maybe I will be almost back to my previous level of fitness.

This time we travelled by coach which was long winded but way less stressfull than the plane as no baggage checks. We also got to see some preety towns along the way, read, listen to music and generally chill out. My MP3 players favourite song appears to be safety dance by men without hats it played it at least ten times during the journey. Will definately do the coach again.

    Berlin
We got to Berlin and checked into the dark hostel (next to K17) got the key and then couldn't find the entrance to the hostel. Confusingly there was another hostel in the same industrial estate (a hostel for normal people) with a similar room numbering system and the door to the dark hostel had no sign above it. Once we had found our room and showered we went exploring. We checked out the eastside gallery (which is a graffiti gallery on the Berlin wall. Behind it we found a fake beach with a bar and a DJ booth. So we sat in deckchairs for a while drinking beer and listening to random dance music. Then we found the kartofflehouse that we ate in last year and had a nice german meal with yet more beer and then walked back to our hostel via karl marx allee (que a bit of dehidration as I suddenly realised i had not had a soft drink all day). We then went to k17 till about 4am and it was playing lots of goth music and 80s stuff and medieval style music. We woke up the next day at 4ish and deciding that we really should do something touristy we went to a museum which was in a building designed to look like a monastry. Very nice architecture. The museum had some cool old music players and an old machine that made photos look 3D as well as a selection of medieval weapons and torture equipment. Then dinner and back to the hostel in time to head to K17 again this time for the metal and rock night. We met some cool people from iceland who were really friendly and it turned out that they were going to Waken. Yet again we stayed till very late. On sunday we went to charlottenberg palace which was a very beautifull overdecorated building and then we went to the access bar which was a bit like the intrepid fox with better beer.

    Hanover
On monday we took a train to hanover to stay with our friend Freidi. It was really nice to catch up with him and a few other people we know there. We played a german board game (which annoyingly I lost) listened to music and chilled out. We also went to his local fitness centre with him to go climbing. Glenn was a natural and got quite far up the wall without help. I kept getting stuck a quarter of the way up and eventually an instructor came over and helped me by telling me where I should put my feet and hands and I nearly made it to the top. I think I would be up for climbing again. The next day we headed for Waken with a few bruises, acheing slightly.

    Waken
We arrived at Waken mid afternoon pitched our tents and then headed for the beer garden where we stayed till about 3am. Lots of drunk conversations that i only vaguely remember now. I vaguely remember discussing theology, politics and sex.
The bands didn't start the next day untill 5 so we went into the village to the one euro beergarden which someone had set up in their garden and then had some food in the local pub and went back to the festival to check out some bands.
I can't remember who played when but highlights for me were

Blind Guardian: They really got the crowd going. I didn't really know their songs but I found myself singing along and having a fabulous time anyway. I have made a mental note to listen to some of their albums at some point.

Haggard: Absolutely awsome. Even the sound check got a round of aplause. Lovely combination of harsh male vocals and opperatic female vocals, perfectly blended with guitar riffs to die for!

Die Apocaliptichen Rieter (correct me if I spelt that wrong): much fun. unusual industrial/folk/metal sound. Great visuals and they kept their keyboardist in a cage!

Moonspell: i really like their sound. quite heavy in comparisson to what i normally listen to.

and on the more gothic/metal side

Lacuna coil: OK I know they are metal but they have a bit of a gothic sound that kept me very happy. They played mainly new stuff that I didn't know but I liked the new stuff so that was cool

Type O Negative: Pete Steel is loosing the plot a bit and they weren't as good as I expected but I enjoyed them anyway. They had a lot of breaks in their set but when they actually played they were really good. Pete Steel had a bit of a random moment in the middle of the show in which he told an invisible person to fuck off then appologised to the nearest audience member!

The one bad thing that happened during the festival was a really nasty audience for Tir. Everyone was pushing really agressively and I was convinced I was going to get crushed. I got nearly pushed over a few times then decided to leave with Glenn and Martin but it was really hard to get out and I got pushed over on the way. A nice man helped me up and stopped me getting trampled. I wanted to say thank you, but didn't get a chance. I got seperated from Glenn and it took about 15 minutes to find him which was really worrying.

The festival finished with Subway to Sally. A really fun ending. Danced drunkenly with Lars, Martin LeeHee and Glenn, tried to sing along despite lack of knowledge of german and had a great time. Then went to the beer garden for a few hours.

    Hamburg and Home

We stayed one night in a hotel in hamburg which gave ust the chance to have a shower and a good nights sleep before travelling to london. We also went to the viking bar for a few beers and had a nice curry with Martin and Francis. The next day they went to berlin and me and glenn spent a few hours wandering at a leasurley pace around hanburg, and sitting by the riverbank. Then went to the airport to fly home in time for my exhibition. My Mum had very kindly cooked us dinner which was ready as we got through the door :)

I will post about Germany when I am less tired. I had a fabulous time :) waken was great (apart from the incident with the overcrowding in the tent stage) and it was lovely to spend time in Berlin with Glenn.

Another request for help/knowledge but this time not to do with art!

My bloody video recorder missed the end of Dr Who. Just got to the bit where the Dr had been turned into an old man and martha teleported herself into the middle of the battle field and then it cut to some sitcom my mum had recorded weeks ago! grrrrrrr, bloody technology, *waves hammer at video recorder threateningly* So if anybody could let me know what the exiting cliffhanger ending was I would be extreemly greatfull and will give them a big geeky hug.

Can anyone recomend somewhere to get flyers printed? I only need a small run (250) and need to do it as cheeply as possible. Idealy I would like to get postcards printed as they look nicer and my theory is that even if people don't go to the show they might keep the flyer and use it as a bookmark for a while (like I do) and remember the artists.

    A busy weekend!
It was my Grandparents Golden wedding aniversary party on Saturday. Me and Glenn were in charge of the barbeque. I do not usually ever cook meat but as all my relatives eat it I was suddenly faced with a massive pile of it and unsure what to do with it. As I was the only Veggie and it wasn't my party I couldn't really insist on a no meat policy. If I had refused to cook it my Grandad would have and then he wouldn't have been able to enjoy him and nanna's party that's my defense for any other veggies who might lynch me at this point *Laughs*
I was O.k cooking the burgers and sausages as I just cooked them till they were crispy and black (better safe than sorry). I have never cooked chicken before and I know that barbequeing it is risky and didn't want to kill any of my relitives so I cheated and put it in the oven for a bit first! No one has phoned up yet complaining of food poisoning so I assume it was o.k! There was lots of chicken left over so it has been chopped up, put in the fridge and is being fed cold to Paddington with his dog biscuits later which I am sure will please him!
I had to wait for my veggie food till I had cooked everything else so by that time I was ravenous and plonked 3 veggie burgers and 4 veggie sausages on the barbie. I then realised that I couldn't eat them all!
The rest of the afternoon was spent drawing and watching the corpse bride with my younger cousins. (Isabel my youngest cousin, wanted me to teach her how to draw unicorns). Laura has grown up so much she is really tall and elegant now! My Nanna kept offering everyone chocolate cake, crisps and potatoe salad and then we all watched Britains got tallent. I still think Dr Gore was by far the most brilliant act. The little girl singing was squeeky, vomit worthy and plain annoying. The adult singer wasn't much better and ruined that eric clapton song. The dancer was cool but not particuarly original. I have heard better beat boxers! The commedien was funny but I had forgotten about him by the end of the show. I can't believe that simon cowel said viking's act looked unproffesional it was by far the most profesional act in the line up. Also I can't believe that Amanda Holden asked where the sexy nurse was! the girl with th mohican was sexy in her own way. And what is sexy anyway. Does Amanda Holden think that she is sexy enough to judge the sexiness of other women, well she is not sexy, she looks to boring to be sexy. GRRRRR
Paddington was a little doggy angel. Laura and Isabel were carrying him around like a doll and he didn't growl once. He also let them push him around in a wheel barrow. He is such a good natured dog! Well erm he is good with people, he attacks other dogs sometimes but we wont hold that against him.

    I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
But don't worry I don't go till september so I have plenty of time to make you all sick of the sight of me! On that note I will be at slimes tonight and at tanz macarbe next sunday!

Seriously though I am going to really miss everyone in london but it is such an amazing job and is only for a year and I will be back in the school holidays.

Glenn has an interview in nottingham the week after next.

My mind is a bit blank now. I only just found out. I feel really relieved though that I have finally found an interesting job.

    york
    hi
had my interview today in york. I think it went o.k but i wont know till tomorrow. I will let you all know. I feel a lot less anxious about moving there now i have been to the interview. If i get it i will be alowed out at night and it will be o.k to have guests in my room. Also it seems like a really nice place to work. The job is only for a year during term times. I really want the job now but I don't want to get my hopes up. I wish they could have told us today. Oh well!!!!
I had a nice day wandering around york. I went into a random jewlery/curiosity shop and saw a cool butterfly necklace I couldn't afford. Chatted to the shop owner for a bit. He was called John and had moved to york from camden. he was very friendly so if I get the job I will go in the shop from time to time to chat. Did the tourist trail round the minster cathedral. Had some pub food and wandered around the shambles in the evening. I overheard a bit of the ghost trail but felt a bit sneeky as I hadn't payed for it so i wandered off after about a minute! I managed to get back to the shambles after my interview today to buy a tea bag holder I had seen last night for my Mum who broke her last one and had been unable to find a replacement. She was really pleased with it. Apparently Paddington sulked yesterday because he didn't know where I was. If i move to york he will really miss me.

Off to york tomorrow. Interview thursday.
    REALLY NERVOUS
I have done everything i can. Portfolio updated, prepared interview techniques with a careers advisor (who is friends with my Mum). Still worried that I might mess up and if so I have not really got a plan B.
Also I have some nagging doubts that if I do get it maybe the job will turn out to not be as good as I expect. I an I am so cynical now I can't help imagining all the potential problems.
The main one I can think of is that I will be living in a boarding school. I wonder if that might mean really restricted freedom e.g) no visitors, curfew (ect). I guess I won't know till thursday, and surely the staff get more freedom than the students! And it is an amazing opportunity so I really wish it didn't seem as daunting.

    Must go now and pack!

    interview
O.K I think I am going to do something that might be a bit crazy
I have an interview for an artist in residence poossition in york in two weeks and need to update my portfolio.
Some of the sculptures I need to photograph are unfinished. I need to take more photos and I need to mount the sheets properly. Oh and clean my portfolio as i spilt plaster on it. This is the sort of job I have wanted since leaving uni. I have to give it my best shot.
Atlantis are unable to give me two weeks off to prepare. I just rung them and I could give my notice in tomorrow or saturday and work on this for two weeks. They might re-employ if it all goes pear shaped. It is a gamble but I might never get this kind of opportunity again.

The school is run by quakers. I like quakers! And its in york! I like york!

    What do you guys think???????
