portland.
So, last week/end I went down to Portland with Sabina for the Stumptown Comics Fest. It was a pretty good show, aside from starting too early in the day for my kind. I spent most of the day behind my table and totally forgot to track down Craig Thompson and Derek Kirk Kim. I'll have to awkwardly introduce myself and blather about my love of their work some other time. I think the best stuff I saw at the show was from Joshua Ellingson. After his gorgeous art portfolio grabbed my eye, I bought a shirt for Sabina and he gave me some really cool mini-sketchbooks.
Props to Oni Press editor-in-chief James Lucas Jones for putting up with us all weekend. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time with all my Portland friends/colleagues/acquaintances. At least I got to see most of them briefly at the show. Sorry to those we missed! Maybe next time I'll get a chance to crash Mercury Studios. Speaking of which, here's a snapshot of me taken by the mighty Steve Lieber:

I also had a business meeting at Dark Horse Comics, where we fleshed out some details for a really cool gig that just came my way. It's too early to blab about it, but I'm extremely happy to be on board. And I'm going to be very very busy with it for the next while, so don't expect me to have a social life or answer emails or see daylight.
Fact: travelling by train kicks so much ass over taking the bus. Too bad we could only do the train for half our travel. The bistro car can make any day better.
Also: we saw Serenity and it was awesome.
