| almost over |
[Jul. 30th, 2008|04:55 pm] |
After quite an exhausting last 2 years medically it will finally be over. This month has been a whirlwind of nonsense with a doctor I had to have because I didn't have insurance. I was finally able to get insurance after being turned down several times and see an old doctor of mine that I love. After a very painful procedure and some difficult tests she has concluded I need surgery asap. We are now trying to find a reproductive endocrinologist to perform my surgery. She referred me to one, but she doesn't take my insurance. My doctor can perform the surgery, but doesn't want to if I can go to a specialist because there are usually complications with this procedure which could leave me unable to have kids. I already told her I don't want to give birth anyway, that my body has been through quite enough, but she's afraid I might change my mind. There are two different surgeries that could solve my problem, on is 3 days in the hospital and 2-6 week recovery time, the other is 1 day in the hospital and 48 hr recovery time. Sadly she thinks I will probably need the 3 day in the hospital surgery. 3 days is not a big deal, but up to 6 weeks recovery is not good, especially because I live in a two story house. I should know more on Friday.
Let's talk about another kind of doctor.... Doctor Who.
The season has ended and as it turns out will come back in December for the Christmas special then only 4 specials in 2009. Russell T. Davies (RTD) will be leaving so it will be in a transitional period for 2009. Torchwood is going the same way except instead of a Christmas special we will have 5 episodes in 2009. Doctor Who & Torchwood will resume in 2010, with David Tennant unconfirmed at this time, and Martha Jones no longer taking part in the next season of Torchwood. The Sarah Jane Adventures will air 12 episodes. I am curious to see how this goes. Steven Moffat will be taking over, and thankfully he's written many of my fave episodes. To get our Doctor Who fix we will be watching the series in its entirety from 1963 to now 1-3 times a week. It took us some money and time to get them all, but we did it. I have a spread sheet with running times and story arcs, and we are grouping our viewing by story arcs. It turns out most of season 3-5 were destroyed, and you can only find stills with the audio. One dalek story arc is 12 eps, with nine of the 12 being stills, that is going to be a rough day. We really don't need to do this because Steven Moffat has said he wants to create new monsters, for future Doctor Who watchers. J and I just really want to because we enjoy the old "monsters" so much.
that's it for now....toodles! |

i can't stand reading people's blogs where all they do is go on about how awesome they are, when really they aren't. truly awesome people don't need to convince you that they are awesome, they just are who they are. all the people i know that know famous people NEVER make a point of it. i don't make a point of it. if you feel you need to make a point of knowing so and so, when you really don't, just to make you feel like your telling the world that you "know" so and so from [insert famous movie/band here] your just pathetic, and you probably somewhere deep down know it. sorry i am being a little harsh, i just get so irked sometimes by the nonsense. what irritates me even more is acting like they are best friends with some guy from a band they met 6 years ago, and never spoke to again, but somehow manages to bring up "that time" . sometimes the bad side of me wants to play the one up game with them, but i haven't got the time nor do i want spend the time to make someone feel bad. even though that's what they are trying to do. i just get frustrated turning the other cheek sometimes. i know i am a better person for not getting into it, but my bad side really wants to stir things up. keep it together..keep it together..keep it together.
anyhoo...............
i really like the show the middleman, it cracks me up. you should check it out. |

I am still in ATX, not the plan. I still have the same medical problem I was diagnosed with Aug 06, not the plan. I am still happily married, TOTALLY the plan. J and I have been trying to make the best out of still living in ATX. We've been doing a lot of home improvements, focusing on our sites and business, and just doing what we can to get me well again. Daniel got married last weekend, and I missed it because of my condition, it sucked. The doctor thinks I will start really seeing improvements after August, that will be TWO full years since being diagnosed. Good golly. I just want to be fixed so I can head out to PDX. The meds they have me on make me a little emotional, so much so that I actually watch Gilmore Girls, a show I hate. I just can't help but watch, it's sad really. A & J both said "you need to stop watching that show" I thought that was pretty funny, since they didn't say it together. Summer sales are going strong right now so if you like and live near Ikea or Bath & Body Works go shopping and save! I bought a bunch of stuff & B&BW, too much maybe. |

| The 14 Characteristics of Fascism |
[Nov. 8th, 2004|02:07 pm] |
The 14 Characteristics of Fascism by Lawrence Britt Spring 2003
Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.
The 14 characteristics are:
Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
Supremacy of the Military Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
Rampant Sexism The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
Controlled Mass Media Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
Obsession with National Security Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
Religion and Government are Intertwined Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
Corporate Power is Protected The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
Labor Power is Suppressed Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .
Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
Obsession with Crime and Punishment Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
Rampant Cronyism and Corruption Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
Fraudulent Elections Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

[Jul. 19th, 2004|09:16 pm] |
i have offered up some advice to some friends near and far as of late. thanks is always nice to hear. it seems like a post i made awhile back could be revisited to help with some problems people i know are having. i thought since i am a bit of a believer in us all be connected, then i feel it right to post some free advice. here goes nothing...or something....
.what a wonderful person you are when you do not pass judgment.
.your life would be so much better if you dropped the fear, and gave it your all to follow your passion
.more focus on your life goal instead of gossip is a great way to live
.putting others down to make yourself feel better makes you a horrible person
.making excuses for your failures only postpones your achievements
.let things go, and move forward
that's all.
be kind...rewind....smile...do something nice each day for strangers and friends.
good luck friends |

thanks for the emails checking my life status. i've been working A LOT. new job is cool, working in SOCO is fun, you get fun discounts from the locals, and get to attend cool meetings. i'm back at momoko again, yes i know, i am trying to kill myself. by the end of tomorrow i will have worked 80 hours. the new boy at momoko is fun to work with, we both like similar teas, so we share a lot. soon momoko will be moving closer to my SOCO job, and that will be wonderful, b/c i can ride my bike from one job to the other. it's funny to think about how i have been closing 2 stores a night this week, i have too many keys. daniel & kelly drove to tacoma and bought me girl scout cookies, and i think that is the fucking nicest thing ever. we decided on an asm, so hopefully she will start next week, and i can then work 40 there, and 20 @ momoko for a total of 60, as opposed to my current 60/20. sxsw starts next week, so from the 12-21 i will be working 2 jobs and doing sxsw; what is wrong with me? i need to get some sleep, so off i go, i just wanted to say hi.......

| | the "new" kenna | ] | the new gap commercial with missy elliot and madonna put me in such shock at the horror of it all that the first words to come out of my mouth were: "that commercial just makes me want to lock myself in my room, and never see anything ever again" no matter how disgusted i am with the world, it's just a matter of time before i am disgusted even more.
for example.....
i'm talking to kimmie last night, and she asks if i've seen the new gap commercial, i blow up over it saying how much i hated it, and telling her what i said, and she laughs, and laughs. later in the conversation she tells me she didn't find my cd i've been looking for that's out of print, but she did buy the new cd by kenna..."have you heard them?" WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
okay, back it up. kennas cd was supposed to be released around sept 11th, of the actual (9/11) year, and i kept waiting for it, and waiting for it. the release date was pushed back to the next spring due to subject matter, it was too close to 9/11, and something about the title, cd cover, or possibly the cd was inappropriate at the time. i randomly kept searching for it, and nothing. 2 years later it's released as if it just happened! anyone remember my post a year or so back bitching about these things in the music industry? so, now apparently kenna is the "you hear it first band", and is getting PR all over the place. this album was finished in 1999! fucking fred durst! damn him for not releasing it on time. they should do that with crumb, release their first album now, and pretend like it just happened and watch it explode all over the place. kimmie freaked out when i told her about how it was supposed to be released after 9/11. i'm glad she bought it though. i just hate to keep seeing these things happen. humans are so stupid. they just forget about things unless it's shoved down their throats, and everywhere they look. sometimes i think i should be numb to these things, and stop being outraged by this crap we are surrounded by, then i think about the bumper sticker that says something like "if you're not pissed off, then your not paying attention"
how sad it is that people just aren't paying attention.
in the words of zack de la rocha........
WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!!! WHAT DO I GOTTA, WHAT DO I GOTTA DO TO WAKE YOU UP?!?!?!?! |

| | latest comp i made | ] | i know very few brilliant people. i actually know more people that think they are brilliant, and are constantly trying to prove their intelligence to others, and failing. the people i know that are brilliant are rather humble, charming, and funny. hours of conversation, extensive email exchanges, commenting on one another's journals are my favourite moments.
my most hated human flaw is that some of us spend our whole lives wastefully. i hear my friends, family, strangers complain about how horrible their lives are taking for granted how much they/we have. i touched on this subject briefly with a friend of mine that said it was americans that do this, and i said i thought perhaps we have a higher percentage, but surely it's not just americans that take for granted their lives. we get so wrapped up in how we are, what we've done, how others view us, our relationship status, what's "hot & new", and this consumes us. how pathetic. who is judging us? why do we care. don't we just want to live happily? does happily really mean attached, high paying 9-5 job, envy from others, home, & car? i don't want you to envy me, i don't want you to feel sorry for me, i want you to wish me happiness, as i do the same for you. i don't want your judgments of what i'm doing or have done with my life, and i would hope this is mutual. i spend most of my time feeling sorry for the majority of people i know because they are lost and afraid. i call people on their bullshit, their fishing for compliments & reassurance. sometimes i get phone calls/emails just for this reason, they want me to say the truths they can't say out loud, and sometimes they pull away, ashamed of the truth. if you are ashamed of a trait you have, change it, don't just try to hide it.
i am pretty happy. i have a home, a car, debt, a kitten, a puppy, a wonderful significant other, ideas, dreams, health, and family. this is more than enough; this is more than many. someone always has more, someone always has less, i don't want to "keep up with the jones'" i don't want anyone spending their lives trying to.
i sometimes say that i am shocked by the certain acts of humans, but truth be told, we all do horrible things everyday. we censor ourselves, our peers, our entire lives. we build walls & set boundaries on how people should live. we say we love individuality all the while saying, he's too tall/short, she's too skinny/fat, her car isn't nice enough, his job doesn't pay enough, etc. even vegetarians do this, i am vegetarian, but i eat fish...(what?!?) is a fish not an animal, does it not count? shirts that say no fat chicks, silly rabbits dicks are for chicks circulating the malls of america. the man show, joe millionaire, the WE channel (that hardly ever shows good empowering female movies). we are constantly segregating & judging. why do we need a man show, a womans channel, a black (BET) channel, a hispanic (telemundo/univision) channel. are we not all human? what about the human race channel, that shows various movies/videos/tv series targeted at various people. when will we stop making molds, and fields to place people in? i am human. if you must judge me then why not judge me by my views rather than my gender, skin colour, age, sexual preference etc? sometimes i think we are all too far gone to get anywhere good, and the world should just explode, because what the hell are we all doing anyway? so here it is. i vow to let everything go. i'm not going to complain about anyone, from now on when friends are gathered passing judgment as they tend to do, because it makes them feel better i will repeat the following: "it's not my life" there it is. it's all so simple. "it's not my life, i cannot pass judgment." pass it on readers, pass it on. perhaps we can grow. we can stop talking about other people, and start encouraging one another.
i wish enlightenment to my friends that aren't so humble, gratitude to those who have forgotten how lucky they are, peace of mind to those lost.
we all have our own destinations, sometimes we just misplace our maps. |

You're a Venus vixen: You're an artistic person who looks at the world through rose-colored glasses. You're able to see the potential in people, so you take time to encourage them even after everyone else has lost interest and moved on. You love to be surrounded by beautiful things. It's tough for you to make up your mind, but once you do you seldom change it. You don't tolerate two-faced people, so you've weeded out the bad eggs and built yourself a crew of only true-blue pals. When they're down in the dumps, they come to you for comfort. And there's nothing you wouldn't do for them- except lie. Tough you freely give good advice, you don't often listen to your own words of wisdom. Guys are your fave subject! You're a famous flirt, and even when you're going steady you've got a couple of guys in reserve. While you tend to rush into relationships, you do try hard to make them work. And when they end, you're bummed for eons.
