Please read: [May. 6th, 2008|01:13 pm]
Many of you know Meredeth, some of you don't. Right now she and her community are in trouble.
Please read. If there is anything you know of that will help, please contact her.

It isn’t easy for me to ask for help, but I am asking for assistance for my community. Not quite four months ago, I was elected President of our Home Owners Association. Little did I know that we were greatly in debt. Only after the election did I find out that we owed approximately $32,000 to Dekalb County Water. January 2008, we were going to be cut off, so I took $2,400 of my own savings plus $2,000 from our HOA account to keep the water on for us (this does not include the plumbing and blacktop repairs).

Now, the bill is $36,623.55. Dekalb will no longer negotiate with us, since we are unable to pay for even our current usage, much less the whole amount.

The KCA, Inc. Board has tried for more than a year to collect the fees owed by approximately half the homeowners; liens, collections, personally trying to collect and notices have been the means in the past. These applications have not worked, and our funds have dwindled so that we can no longer pursue them.

There are funds that we could access, approximately $23,000 from the county. We are unable to access this money due to a lien that is on our property. This suit against us was paid in full on 19 January, 2005. The paperwork has not been filed to close this suit, therefore it still appears as though we owe them.

Our time is short. We will be tagged on the 15th of May to have our water cut off ten days later. This will later lead to the condemnation of our community due to unsanitary conditions and we will lose our homes.

Further complicating the situation is the fact that we are ALL on ONE water main. If we could pay off the water bill, we would be able to have separate meters put in. However, not all of us could afford the meter-plumbing costs.

I cannot let everyone suffer—it isn’t in me and it isn’t fair. We have many single mothers here, along with young children, elderly and handicapped residents. It is for those people and those who have diligently paid their HOA fees that I am fighting to keep our water on.

Currently, I am working on getting our story out to the media. My hope is that we can get legal and financial assistance. It would be a short-term fix to our situation, but we need the help and time to figure out a long-term plan. This would in no way cancel the debt of those who owe back fees and have made no attempt to pay. They will still be held accountable for what they owe.

If you can help please contact my friends who have graciously given their space and time, or via post at P.O. Box 628, Avondale Estates, Atlanta, GA 30002.

Thank You!

Meredith Greer
Kensingwood Condominium Association President

The BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! [Apr. 22nd, 2008|11:43 pm]
[Current Mood | excited]

BIG CITY BURLESQUE AND VAUDEVILLE WILL BE PERFORMING AT DRAGONCON 2008!!!

You read it right ladies and gents! The bodacious babes of that all-time favorite all-retro burlesque and vaudeville troupe will be gracing the stage at DragonCon 2008!
.
.
.
and that is not all.
.
.
.
We have 5 guest spots open for out-of-town performers and maybe 2 MC spots.
.
And now the nuts and bolts....
If you are interested in performing, then please pay attention to the following:
-All guest performers will be required to submit an audition video of the act you propose to perform IN COSTUME AS IF YOU WERE PERFORMING AT THE CON. If your act/props/etc do not match the audition, your act will be cut. Don't blame BCBV, because it's not their fault. Blame me. I'm a bitch of a stage manager. Obviously I won't cut your act if you added a few crystals or found a better necklace. I AM reasonable, guys and gals. Crazy and strict, but reasonable. Mostly.
-You can have a single person act or a group. Just as long as it's good. If you're in a group, make sure you're synchronized.I know, you're thinking that this is common sense, right? Yeah. I've seen group acts that were oh so not sychned and the act suffered greatly for it.
-If there is something you discovered that will DRAMATICALLY improve your act after submitting your audition or after you have been accepted, then bring it up to me. Heck, I just might geek out about it as much as you!
-This is a retro show; i.e. the time period that you are shooting for is primarily 1880-1955 (maaaybe something from the sixties if it looks *really* awesome and has a nifty idea behind it). This means a retro look: costume, hair, makeup, etc. Think Dita.
-All naughty bits will be covered throughout the entirety of the performance. Sure, we can go down to thong and pasties...but those suckers had better stay on and not peek.
-You still have to buy your own badges and supply room accommodations, food, transportation, costume storage, etc.
-I'm looking for pretty high quality, well done acts. Not just someone who has not rehearsed and just throws on a few random things. Not someone who dances like he/she just picked out the music he day before the show and can't dance well to it (or simply has no dancing ability whatsoever). Don't laugh. I've seen it on stage before. Please guys, we want DragonCon to want to do this next year as well (and for years after that).
-The only exception to the above statement: if the act is a more humorous one and being off kilter is part of the act.
-I want diverse acts. If two acts are too similar, I will chose the best one. Even if you are my friend, I will cut your act if I don't feel like it's the best one for the show. If this happens, don't be offended, because it's not about you. I'm just trying to do the best job and put on the best show possible.
-HELPERS. I'm still on the fence about this one, but I will say that admittance backstage will be STRICTLY LIMITED. We all know how much that makeup and those costumes cost. I just want to make sure that everyones' investment is as secure as possible. There will be security nearby.
-Depending on how big a back-stage area we have, I might have to ask all the performers to at least have their makeup and hair done (or at least mostly done) prior to the show. Touchups will be possible, but we will likely not have a whole lot of light and room backstage and I want to break that possibility early.
-I understand it takes time to put this stuff together, and I'm trying to be as fair as I can. In that thought, I am leaving the submission time open until 2 JULY 2008. That's 10 weeks from today. If I have not RECEIVED your audition by then, then start working on next year's show audition. You can send in your auditions by email, youtube, or cd. Once the guest performers have been chosen, then those who are chosen may be asked to supply a promotional picture so we can add you to the following promotional fliers and emails.
-I ask that everyone help promote the show everywhere you can. A success this year means that we get to do this again, with maybe a bigger timeslot and more performers? Who knows!
-Any other questions? Please feel free to comment here or email me at stormyknight42 AT gmail DOT com.

JOB OPENING FOR A RECEPTIONIST [Apr. 11th, 2008|12:31 pm]
[Current Mood | chipper]

The attorney I work for needs a receptionist and someone with basic clerical skills. Proficiency with Word and Excel a must. Must be able to multi-task.
The office is in Austell in a fabulous converted factory (I'm actually thinking of doing a photoshoot here if I can get permission). The surroundings are nice, the place is easy to get to and is pretty much against the flow of traffic however you come. The Austell City offices are just down the hall.

Ya know, for an unemployed woman I sure am busy!
::laughs::
But I would not have it any other way. Today I have to work on biznass. There are a couple of opportunities that I have to work up and at least one proposal for a client. No telling! But this would be quite good for me if it works out.
Tomorrow is slated to work on the website (don't worry, you'll see it soon enough when I go to pimp the hell out of it!). I also need to work up a couple of ideas for the client I am working the website for. I just might be calling a few of you for various things (don't worry you'll get appropriate credit and maybe a bit of free advert in the process and if I can swing it, some pay). I cannot go into any more detail than that since the client is not ready for me to disclose any more (they said teasers are ok tho!)
I also need to flesh out some of my upcoming acts, figure out what the costumes are going to be and work on the costuming for one of the acts already assembled (bought the supplies last summer during the extra money period and ever so slowly with weekly coupons and the spare money I've earned around town or sold items for). Burlesque on a Budget!

Alrighty then. Time to go talk to a man about a tattoo and trade!

Thank you to those who sent healing/positive vibes to Stormy. She is doing well now. The vet is amazed at her recovery. She is still reluctant to eat sometimes and on those days I have to feed her using the Tube. She hates the Tube, but she also needs to eat something.

I cannot make this along post, as I have to leave soon to get to 7Stages for the Little 5 Points Rock Star Orchestra tribute performance of Jesus Christ Superstar.

But before I go, here are a few pictures that I have snapped recently of Stormy:
Stormy on Wednesday--a rare feel-good moment

Stormy sitting Shotgun on the way home from the Vet's office. She normally has to wear a harness (in case I get hit), but given the circumstances she needed to go without (both Vets agreed)

Stormy playing with Ransom. I just about cried for joy the first time she played a little with me. At the time it was a small nip on the nose, but over the next couple of days she felt good enough to play. Granted, it was only a few minutes and just enough for her to assert her dominance over Ransom...but it was still good to see.
