Free yarn in Manhattan. I'm not allowed to take any more until I use what I've got, but y'all probably knit faster than me.
And this just makes me deliriously happy. I'm probably going to ask someone to make me an icon of the picture, in fact. Free Bananas in DUMBO.

I have joint custody of a book.
It is a first edition of Macbeth with illustrations by Salvadore Dali, but not in good shape. ( Cut for wittering on about the details )

Haven't looked at LJ since a week ago Sunday until tonight. $^%#@! computer will only let me go back as far as skip=980, which comes out to this past Thursday. If you said anything I should see on Monday-Thursday, give me a pointer?
I love my life, but I missed you guys.

From Shelf Awareness:
Jane Belson, the widow of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams, has given permission for a sixth book to be added to the series. The Guardian reported that And Another Thing . . . will be written by children's author Eoin Colfer. [...] The book [...] is scheduled to be published next fall by Penguin.

They turned the floodlights back on. Do they do that every year?
I'd forgotten they were so far west in the sky.

No offense intended to the Organization for Transformative Works, which is a cool project in its own right, but this sounds like what I was hoping OTW would be, and what I've been wanting for a long time without having the energy and time to start it myself. I hope there will be something useful I can do to support it besides give money.

I'll say this for science crazies... the world doesn't end every morning, but usually I don't think to be glad about it.

| Name that SCAdian |
[28 Aug 2008|07:07am] |
|
I have finally been sucked into the SCA. That means I need a name. I thought I had a name, courtesy of my senior thesis on Medieval Irish Poetry and my stint in the other medieval group with akkasha, but it turns out to be a name no one can pronounce and results in my being called Bechamel. And while I am occasionally saucy, that could get old. So I need your help: what should I call myself?

I've finally admitted that Buffy fandom and I have parted ways, and am pruning my friendslist in consequence.
(By the by, any readers who want to should feel free to do likewise. I don't much care for the concept of defriending amnesty since I don't think y'all should wait for my permission and on principle I don't promise not to feel hurt -- or not to feel anything -- but in practice I am pretty thick skinned.)
Anyway, what I can't decide is what to do about the journals that haven't been updated in ages. Is there a point to leaving them there? Is there a point to removing them? Help the indecisive, take my poll:

What does your phone number spell? In my case, apparently nothing, which is a pity since I am as good at remembering words as I am poor at remembering numbers. But the tool is still cool.
Literary Tattoos. I fear pain, and the shrinky-dink effect, and my short attention span. But maybe, someday...

I must confess that I am one of those weird people who actually likes talking on the phone. (I also like weddings. I am a simple soul at heart.) But for the many people I know who don't, now there's Slydial, which connects you to someone's mobile voicemail without that pesky chance that they might answer. $1.75 per word for a non-exclusive opening paragraph? I have TONS of opening paragraphs. I am ongepotchket with opening paragraphs. Why am I struggling to finish the bloody stories and sell exclusive first pub rights for 5 cents a word, if I'm lucky? It's not a bug, it's a feature!
Is that really how one spells ongepotchket or is Google having me on?

Oral surgery tomorrow. Keep a good thought for me. In the grand scheme of things, it could be Much Worse, but there are many things I would rather have done with my long weekend than whimper and eat pudding. At least I will have the good drugs and Mom of Mer to take care of me.

It's been two years since I quit smoking. Someday maybe I'll stop missing it. Today is not that day.
