Mr. Fats' skin problem cleared up with all the medications the vet gave, except like two weeks later it came back. It's not as severe, but it's more spread out. He doesn't have one large mass of raw, oozing skin now, but horrendous scabs around his ears, neck, and chest. (His large patch of raw skin was pretty much just his chest and throat). One of the bajillion things the vet said it could be (because, of course, she couldn't tell me for sure) was a food allergy, but she didn't tell me what I could do about it. In doing more research on my own, I am pretty convinced that it is indeed a food allergy. Well, instead of paying tons of money I don't have for various tests and bloodwork (plus putting Fats through all that), I'm going to do what I should have been doing ever since Fats and Flueffer were kittens - not feed them the utter crap they've been eating. For now, they're eating fancy cat food in an "allergy formula," with the flavor "Venison and Green Pea" which I find hilarious for some reason. Anyway, I get obsessive about things, and in trying to find which food to feed them, I started reading up on cat food in general, and how horrific most of it is, basically. Seems like 99% of cat food is all fillers and by-products, and this is what I have been feeding my littles! When we went to buy their food it was always "well what's cheapest?" and never "what does it have in it?" So, for now they're eating this dry food mixed with this wet food. The ingredients aren't super ideal, but, they're at least ten times better than what the kitties have been eating. Fats' skin already looks and feels like it's clearing up. The only downside is that they have smelly farts now, haha.
Anyway, what I'd really like to do is make their food myself. I am ordering some books on the subject.
...but right now I'm at my parents' house and I've just realized Blue Planet is on!
