11:07 pm - Joke from mom Will I live to be 90?
I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, "Do you think I'll live to be 90?" Heasked, "Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?" "Oh no," I replied. "I'm not doing drugs, either." Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?" I said, "No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!" "Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?" "No, I don't," I said. He asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?" "No," I said. "I don't do any of those things." He looked at me and said, "Then, why do you give a shit how long you will live?"

11:48 am - Upcoming choir performance On September 25 at 7:30 my church choir will be performing at our church for the Installation Service of the DC Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. While it's officially a Vesper's service, I wouldn't be surprised if nearly all of it is sung except for the AGO-specific ceremony bits.
Because I'm lazy, here's the anticipated song list taken directly from ( email from choir director )
And there will be refreshments afterwards.
While this event doesn't seem to be listed on any of the AGO sites, I'm pretty sure it's open to the public and free, if I learn otherwise, I'll post here.

10:19 am - PSA: HPV Vaccine Update And FDA advisory committee has endorsed the drug and Merck has a more detailed announcement.
Here's hoping that science, not morality prevails and this drug gets approved, and even better, it or an improvement on it becomes one of those vaccines required of all people when they are babies. While it's the women who tend to die from this disease, it's very easily transmitted to them by infected, but asymptomatic men. And just like herpes, a condom isn't always enough prevention against HPV.

04:52 pm - The 12th Night Hat I started the new hat for me for 12th Night. It is going to be black cotton velvet (the most luxurious black velvet the store had) lined with silver metallic silk organza (silver metal, light grey silk) with fabric balls of the silk attached along the edges and the whole thing will be stitched with dark grey silk thread in 2 weights.
I have been taking pictures as I go and I plan on making an official photo essay describing the construction. But for now, I'm putting my notes here.

11:44 am - For the knitters reading this I'm ready for a new knitting project. I'd rather knit from my stash than buy stuff for a new project. Here's what I'd most like to use up:
- 3 50g skeins of cream-colored sport-dk weight alpaca
- 2 skeins of very fuzzy black mohair
- 2 or 4 skeins of some bulky silk stuff in 2 coordinating greyish colors
- 2 50g skeins of Noro Kojaku (black/grey with a rainbow thread twisted in)
Any suggestions for projects using these?
