12:59 pm just in case i haven't made it clear lately, i really love my little ipod.
today while i was wandering around cvs, futilely searching for oatmeal baths and a sewing kit, it played the following four songs in a row:
club 8-keeping track of time erie choir-epic gorky's zygotic mynci-christina machine-there but for the grace of god
it was pretty awesome.
also, i bought that benadryl anti-itch spray--i am about to spray my entire body and eat jellybeans and watch movies. a good afternoon if i've ever heard one! Current Mood: ITCHYYYYYY Current Music: stars, what i'm trying to say

11:52 pm so after a yummy dinner at akai hana (ume rolls = awesome) w/ erin and matt and kevin, i had a pretty freakin' fun night seeing the show at the cradle w/ the lovely everywhichway and the lovely margarita_5 (who had a plus-one that she donated in my direction). of course i don't really listen to or know anything about crimea, the bravery, or ash, but they were all entertaining so that worked out nicely. during the show, i thought of several pithy things to say about each band, but i forget them now. obviously this means that i had a long day and should go to bed soon. :) tomorrow will be another fun one w/ christina and the gang! woo. :) Current Mood: cheerful Current Music: keren ann, not going anywhere

("normal" meaning "non-excessive face pain" as opposed to anything else.) Current Mood: cheerful Current Music: aislers set, attraction action reaction

02:36 am tongiht is one ngiht i an justified in using the DRUNK icon, b/c after 4 amaretto sours and a malibu-and-sprite i am feeling find. but it was an awesome evening regardless of alcohol, b/cchristina and i had yummy dinner at queen ofsheba and then went to the amazing 506 show to see work clothes and des_ark and bellafea, all of whome were amazing, and it was fucking pakced, and sean b was there and told me about his baby girl who will be born in march so that was pretty cool and i got the new des ark and bellafea cds but work clothes was not selling their cds which was sad b/c we have it at xdu and it's really good. and also 506 w/ their new tv thing is awesome. i can't beliove that show was free, it was awesome.
then me and christina and soleil and spott and the rosebuds and the pidgeon english guys anf ash bowie went to reservoir which is like totally go! only the opposite, and the oine door is an alcove w/ a rotating old-fashioned-stlye pbr lamp. and me and ash bowie and ivan rosebud talked about how lee is the awesomest drummer ever and some toehr stuff that i forget now. it was so nice to be out and see everyone abnd hang out and have fun. it's been a while since i did that. thanks to christina for driving me everthwere so i could be all drunk and sleepy now! Current Mood: drunk Current Music: dump, cowboy song

February 23rd, 2005
11:34 pm i am ridiculously happy right now. ingredients for a happy alicia include: no 153, no homework hanging over my head, getting lots of amazing emails in response to a query i posted on alt.music.chapel-hill (which will potentially lead to a fun little work project), spending tomorrow figuring out about preserving the tunebook collection (that's library nerdiness), and oh yeah, having a bellyful of pizza and spending the evening w/ christina chatting and squeeing over her adorable new computer.
also i have a bunch of candy in my possession.
so hey. how are you doing?
ps--my favorite designer won project runway! (i was addicted to that show--did you know?) there were sooo many cute outfits in the collection--some even i would wear. yay cute clothes. Current Mood: happy Current Music: barbara manning

09:01 am --i am a bad little monkey for not finishing my homework yet.
--i forget what i was just about to type!
ps: disregard above! i am a good homework-doing monkey, and 153 was cancelled for tonight (!!!!!!!!) so i have time to finish cataloging homework AND eat pizza w/ christina. LIFE IS SO FUCKING AWESOME. Current Mood: i want a bagel! Current Music: trenchcoat club, title track

February 21st, 2005
11:41 pm we won trivia night again--i think this makes the fifth time in 7 or 8 weeks. something like that. this week our secret weapon was mark's knowledge of woody allen movies. good times. (although the times would have been better had erin been on our team. :) )
ps why the fuck is this thing in read-only mode every time i try and update it?! Current Mood: pleased Current Music: regina hexaphone, le machine

10:18 am i am making a list of things i want to do before i turn 26. i think things like "get the oil changed" and "fill out that renewal fafsa thing" will sadly preempt my list over the next 6 or so weeks. Current Mood: chipper Current Music: spent

11:07 pm
sociologian is officially my hero.
not only did he move my stove, he figured out how to actually adjust the water heater thingie, and then reassembled the cabinet for me.
i am not sure thin mints were adequate payment, especially considering how gross my kitchen is (worse than usual, now that i've melted plastic on one of my burners). Current Mood: thankful Current Music: tuscadero, nancy drew

February 19th, 2005
11:42 am ok, seriously. i can't stand the lack of hot water in my shower any longer. it used to be bearable for 5 minutes or so and then started to get cold, but this morning it was hardly bearable at all. i need my long hot showers!!!
if you or anyone you know is capable of moving a stove, please contact me. i will give you twenty dollars, home-made cookies, or anything else you want, if you just MOVE MY STOVE SO I CAN HAVE A HOT SHOWER. Current Mood: dirty Current Music: q and not u, beautiful beats

12:47 am YAYYYYY neko case!!
we got to the show partway through the visqueen set. we weren't that impressed by them, and were distracted by creepy prom boy coming over. luckily christina returned in the nick of time and i was able to ignore him until he left a few songs into the sadies' set.
by the way, the sadies were friggin' AWESOME live.
as was neko, despite being ill (w/ battlefield typhoid). she and the sadies totally rocked out--what a great combination. of course i love the live cd, but it's better to actually see them live. :) highlights: the meat buttons, when they were singing "this little light of mine" and i asked jared if it was a real or metaphorical light, and he replied that "it's a glowstick. for a rave." and i thought i would die from trying not to laugh. and also, when some guy in the audience gave neko a green light-up necklace, which was too adorable.
and also: she has the best merch ever.
i am wearing mine tomorrow. Current Mood: bouncy Current Music: death by chocolate, artplay

11:28 am OH MY GOD.
girl scouts are selling cookies in the pit!!!
i am now fully stocked on samoas and thin mints.
i was tempted by the lemon coolers (i looooooooooove lemon cookies) but was put off by the "reduced fat" label. i like my cookies to have fat! that's where the flavor is! the girl scouts claimed they tasted good, but "samoas are better" and since those are my favorites, i invested in an extra box. :)
mmm . . . cookies.
wilda g. once said about me: "alicia is the kind of girl who, when you go to her apartment, won't have any veggies or fruits or real food, but will have three kinds of ice cream and two kinds of cookies."
some things never change . . . despite my best intentions. :) Current Mood: cheerful Current Music: everyone secretly eating samoas!

12:42 pm this is the craziest link i've seen all day:
( examples )
i am considering taking a sick day and going home and sleeping instead of going to cataloging, even though i like that class and know attendance is important b/c we learn all sorts of stuff every day. but i just don't think i have the energy for such a long day. Current Mood: lethargic

February 16th, 2005
10:36 pm oh man, nyquil. it's like, sometimes it doesnt;' really affect me, and sometimes it;s like, wow, i am sleepy. (guess which it is tongiht!)
fun night of games and jalepeno poppers w/ christina and forrest and kate and keith. i love you guys!
also, hey everyone, did you know i have this whole other blog, which i update just as much as this one, sometimes more if work is slow. it is mostly about books and comics that i've read but sometimes i put photos and sometimes i talk about tv or music or something. right now i need romance novel recommendations, so if you have read one that is kind of cool, let me know. i have to read one for class next week. Current Mood: ditzy Current Music: dressy bessy, princess

08:12 am i don't have work this morning (i'm working all day friday instead) so was planning on sleeping in some--breathing has become extremely painful the last couple of days (but i have an appt. w/ an ENT next week!) and i need the sleep--so of course the phone rang at 8 am . . . luckily it was good news: my mom found my childhood vaccination records which means i don't have to go get a shot! that is amazing news for people who fear injections. like me!
speaking of scheduling, i am actually djing this weekend again, and then it will alternate from there. so for anyone who listens to my show, i'm on the opposite weeks now . . .
i forget if there's anything else to say. maybe i'll go back to bed for a little bit. Current Mood: sick Current Music: beach boys, wouldn't it be nice

February 14th, 2005
06:01 pm lisa b. tagged me, and how can i resist a meme about music anyway? anyway, i just woke up from a nap and my resistance to memes is low. :)
1. Total amount of music files on your computer? 4354 songs now!
2. The last CD you bought was... from itunes, the crooked fingers call to love single/ep thingy. in real life . . . actually, i don't remember. :) my compulsive sitting-at-the-computer habits mean i've been buying a lot of stuff from itunes when i have money--and i can't afford any cds in real life till next month.
3. What was the last song you listened to before reading this message? itunes shuffled up the thermals doing "our trip."
4. Write down five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you. this is hard!! ok, um . . .
a. calexico, alone again or--it is impossible to be in a bad mood when this song comes on! this is my instant smiling song.
b. motion city soundtrack, the future freaks me out--best cranked up and sung along to while driving, this song captures all the ambivalence of growing up and settling down.
c. the smittens, capucine--the chorus "i drink sangria from a plastic cup" really speaks to me, b/c it reminds me of lots of fun parties where i did indeed drink sangria from a plastic cup. the my little pony references in the song are also greatly appreciated.
d. audubon park, tonight! the church van--reminds me of high school youth group and those idyllic little crushes (you know, the ones that didn't suck away one's teenaged soul). plus, the catchiest fucking hooks ever in a song.
e. lovers, dream lover/squid suit--when you need some wallowing-in-a-lousy-crush heartbreakingly beautiful sort of stuff, lovers is there. 5. What 3 people are you going to pass this baton to and why? i'd like to see what everywhichway has to say--i like all her music-related entries. :) and christinamerge of course, if she has the time! and basilessa, if she's willing to play along. :) Current Mood: curious Current Music: the buzzcocks, jerk
