friends only or something
This LJ is reaching it's fifth birthday, s'about time I f-locked up all my whining and stopped spamming the internet with it.

Fandom & art for the most part will remain un-friends locked, however, if you want in on my rambling about real!life and AWESOME secrets, drop me a line here and I'll friend you back.

Current Mood: totally gang★!!

i'm being boring to everyone not in my fandom
So yeah, I just realised I have an essay due tomorrow that I haven't even done any research for, let alone written any of it. I could have been working on it all day, but I got side tracked by a theory that I will maybe share in full at a later date. It's mostly concerning how bandom makes my red bull addiction 90 times worse than it would have been.

But in trying to prove this, in picture format, I leant something.

It's not Brendon Urie who makes me crave red bull. No.

It's spencer fucking smith, with his magical smile.

moving my desk over the heating vent was the best idea I've ever had. *sticks feet into the vent* ooooooh so warm

oh god, bandom even caters to my comic-nerd side.
So I might have bought "The Umbrella Academy" (Gerard Way's comic) today.

I also might be finding it endearingly hilarious. It's not the best comic I've ever read, and I am actually not impressed by the art (Gerard's concept sketches = so much more raw and suited to the comic over Gabriel Ba's over polished stuff.) Also, I don't know if I've shared this opinion, but the guy doing the cover art for it, James Jean, I find him to be so much of an arrogant dick that I can't bring myself to be that enthused with his art.

However, the things Gerard Way did;
the dialogue; it's not amazing, and reads weirdly at points, but it's heartfelt, and dorky, and also; "It's your eiffel tower... it's gone insane."
the plot; kinda enthralling, apocalyptic and dark (with killer violins, and talking monkeys.)
the characters; so far, I like them. #5 is my favourite, such a grumpy little boy <3

So in short, I kinda love it, it isn't 'omg!a masterpiece!' but they really did put a lot of love into it, and that comes through. So if you were thinking 'hmm, I'd like to read a comic about talking monkeys and the end of the world', head on down to your local comic store and pick up the first volume of "The Umbrella Academy" (dark horse comics)

It's time for an epic mixed-multimedia concert recap!
I'm not exactly your average concert go-er. If given the choice, I actually opt for stand tickets over crowd tickets for one. I like being able to sit back and enjoy the music, I also like sketching whilst I do so, and I'm not going to defend my weird-o behaviour, because you know what? I'm not about to change.

(I'd also like to thank my film studies classes, for giving me the opportunity to develop my skills in jotting down notes, quotes and sketches of frame composition in the dark whilst not really looking at the page anyway.)

Panic at the disco (+ Cobra Starship, and The Academy Is..) @ Acer Arena, Sydney (Aug 22 2008)

mrgh...
so it's 3.30 am. I have 2 hours till I need to walk down to central station sydney and catch a bus home.
I totally saw panic at the disco ... 4 hours ago. it was pretty god damn amazing. It was also, totally the most epic, amazing, funeral of my indie-music-cred that I could ever hope for. When I'm back in canberra, have participated in some stupid japanese speech contest, and then have slept for forever, with a break for work sunday morning. I'll type up my rambling about how amazing panic at the disco are in concert, and why, if you get the chance, you NEED to see them.

ETA: so it's been 37 hours since I last slept. in that 37 hours I have; driven TO sydney, wandered around sydney, caught trains, seen cobra starship & the academy is... & panic at the disco (+ a band named chain gang), walked around in the rain, walked around sydney late at night on my own in the rain, drowned my converse (they no longer need a wash! unless surprisingly deep & filthy sydney street puddles don't count?), walked down sydney streets ridiculously early in the morning, sat on the ground at central station (ew?), caught a bus to canberra, seen my grandparents, seen my uncle, my family, my entire japanese class, participated in a japanese speech contest, bought the academy is...'s new album, bought the grates' new album, spent $20 in phone credit, had a gloriously long shower in which I washed my hair, bought strawberry plants, met new people, drawn 5 new pages in my sketch book, attempted to find a new sketch book (twice, failed both times...), had a giant slushie, mixed an entire can of red bull into said slushie, drank 4 cans of redbull, and hung out with friends.
It's kinda impressive how much I get down without sleep!

except I've been trying to sleep for a while now and can't...

my baby, let me introduce you
So yes, I spent hours and hours on this, when I should have been writing essays, doing uni readings, memorising a speech for this thursday, caring about uni.

I didn't do any of those things, I spent hours on a painting, so long that I might just be a little too emotionally invested in it (as such, I am refering to it as 'my baby', a worrying sign.)

Panic at the Disco, epic canvas work, image under cut )

and now I need to head out to class. Enjoy my epic canvas, the white specks are just sunlight being picked up, my painting is not that half arsed promise.
