Super Tuesday I felt guilty because I wasn't going to go, so asked my boss to have off only a few hours before. You are supposed to give 24 hours notice, so she would have been well within her rights to say no.
Either because of a temporary boundary change (the place where we vote is being remodeled) or because this election is going to be a hot one, there were 45 people there instead of our regular 4.
I started out convening, and read a few things, and then I said, "I really don't remember how to do this? Is there anyone here who does?" And to my everlasting gratitude, a man who is a recent St. Paul import took over and did a much better job than I would have done.
Another cool thing is that there were eight or ten Somalians who attended. And one of them made a resolution about affordable health care for working families. He also is going on as a delegate to the next level.
All of our resolutions passed, and everyone who wanted to go as a delegate got to go because not many wanted to go. I am the only alternate, and I'll have to do some finagling at work if they actually need me.
Our final tally was Obama 30 (YAY!), Clinton 14, and Edwards (who had already dropped out), 1. | | Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 | | 9:58 pm |

I am a grandmother. Madeline was actually born March 7th of this year and I have been waiting to figure out how to post pictures. Haven't done that yet, but she is so precious I didn't want to wait any longer.
She weighed 7 pounds nine ounces and was nineteen inches long at birth. She is now almost twelve pounds and twenty-one inches long. Eventually I will hopefully post some pictures. | | Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 | | 11:55 am |
I haven't actually updated in some time.
My oldest daughter Angie is back in college, working on her Bachelor's in Psychology, and working two jobs. She has been seeing her boyfriend Joe since June.
Ambur, my middle daughter, and her husband are expecting a baby on March 4th, 2007. They found out it is a little girl and they have named her Madeline. Also, Ambur will graduate from SCSU next month with a Bachelor's in Social Work.
My youngest daughter Bethany started Hamline University in September working on an MFA in Creative Writing. Her boyfriend is named Alex and they have been dating a little less than a year.
Bob's daughter Amber will graduate in about a year, I think. She changed her major from business to travel.
His son Jarrod is a junior at the U of M in pre-law and is very busy with volunteer work.
Zac is still in high school and would like someday to be a chef.
Yesterday I accepted a different position within Journey Home, the halfway house where I work. I will change from being a resident assistant RA) to a parenting aide. It is actually a cut in pay but I will have more time working with the women and their kids, which is partially what I have been doing now. But there are often times when I have to tell someone I am too busy to help them and they will have to come back later. The RA position is getting more and more paperwork and less human contact.
The new position doesn't start until January, which will give my boss time to fill my position and train someone for it. | | Friday, November 3rd, 2006 | | 11:06 am |
Here's another quiz result. | What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. | | The Midland | | | Boston | | | North Central | | | The Inland North | | | Philadelphia | | | The South | | | The Northeast | | What American accent do you have? Who Knew? However, the dig at American schools is uncalled for. Most European schools separate kids into academic or trade schools at the high school level. So our all-inclusive schools compete against their selectively academic schools. Milestones Oldest daughter Angie has been training at a new job, J & J Homes, and after training and shadowing, she starts sometime next week. This job is caring for people with developmental disabilities, a change from working at St. Michael's for two and a half years, with people with serious and persistent mentally illnesses. Middle daughter Ambur's wedding shower is tomorrow; wedding is June 18th. She has been planning this for months and all of her sisters are in the wedding (including two half-sisters from her father's first marriage, and a heart sister, Sarah, who is friends with all three girls). Youngest daughter Bethany took her last final today; she graduates tomorrow (but is not attending the ceremony, yay!). She will have a Bachelor's Degree in English literature, and is moving out July 1st to earn money and study for the GRE in preparation for grad school. Starting this month, I will have a monthly column in our local paper, The St. Cloud Times, on the opinion page, as a member of the Times Writers Group. I had my picture taken Wednesday. I am expected to write a 600-750 word essay/composition each month pertaining to Central Minnesota issues. I am fairly nervous; I think my first column sounded somewhat PollyAnnish (if that is a word). If I remember, I'll link to it when it is published (link won't last long). | | Wednesday, March 16th, 2005 | | 7:32 pm |
 | You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don't believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof).
Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

Stray cat. Something really sad: we saw someone dump a cat in the middle of the road about a block from here. We did stop the car and the cat was easily caught. He is about six months old; unneutered. I dropped Ambur off at SCSU and Bethany delayed an appointment for the Harvest (she and a friend are editing SCSU's literary publication this year) to go to the Humane Society with me. I hope he will be okay.
Maybe he was spraying in the house and that's why the man dumped him. Neutering usually stops that. He wasn't haired up for outside, but was very friendly (ate Bethany's hair and played with her coat strings). I hope the Humane Society will find him a good home. He is white with medium fur except on his tail; long fur there. He has gold eyes. | | Thursday, February 3rd, 2005 | | 1:13 pm |
Musings. . . For about the past year, I have been working about half-time instead of full-time (except during June, when they needed more help, and extra shifts I picked up around the holidays because no one wanted them). This is odd for me, because up until this year, I have been working full-time and more (sometimes had a part-time job in addition)(or regularly scheduled overtime Saturdays) since I was 21, 29 years ago. Bob is working lots of hours, so he picks up the slack from me. My youngest graduates from college in May, my middlest has two more years or so and is marrying in June, and my oldest is planning to move to California within the next two years. Besides my job and driving my girls back and forth to SCSU, I don't do much except post on the St. Cloud Times Story Chat. I sort of belong to a couple of political groups that meet sporadically, but am not much of an activist. And yet I am enjoying myself immensely not having to work as much, and feeling slightly guilty about it. I wonder if I should be doing more politically, since I really disagree with the direction of the current administration. I wonder if I should go back to school and work on a Master's Degree, since my current BA in Psychology doesn't seem to do much (not that I am aggressively looking for a different job). My father has said for years that the purpose of life is to enjoy it (what a hedonist!). And yet I feel guilty because I do just that. Maybe it is the mother in me. |
