This has probably been asked before and may seem like a dumb question to most; however, I'm going to get another tattoo and I want it placed on my upper arm.  This is only my second one so I'm sort of a newbie at this, hence the question.  If I get it placed there (upper arm) and loose weight, will it look shitty after the weight is lost?  I asked someone else the same question and they told me the most it would do is probably shift a little bit.

So, any advice would be great :9)

253: A Color of the Sky [Friday

“A Color of the Sky"
Tony Hoagland

Windy today and I feel less than brilliant,
driving over the hills from work.
There are the dark parts on the road
when you pass through clumps of wood
and the bright spots where you have a view of the ocean,
but that doesn't make the road an allegory.

I should call Marie and apologize
for being so boring at dinner last night,
but can I really promise not to be that way again?
And anyway, I'd rather watch the trees, tossing
in what certainly looks like sexual arousal.

Otherwise it's spring, and everything looks frail;
the sky is baby blue, and the just-unfurling leaves
are full of infant chlorophyll,
the very tint of inexperience.

Last summer's song is making a comeback on the radio,
and on the highway overpass,
the only metaphysical vandal in America has written
MEMORY LOVES TIME
in big black spraypaint letters,

which makes us wonder if Time loves Memory back.

Last night I dreamed of X again.
She's like a stain on my subconscious sheets.
Years ago she penetrated me
but though I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed,
I never got her out,
but now I'm glad.

What I thought was an end turned out to be a middle.
What I thought was a brick wall turned out to be a tunnel.
What I thought was an injustice
turned out to be a color of the sky.

Outside the youth center, between the liquor store
and the police station,
a little dogwood tree is losing its mind;

overflowing with blossomfoam,
like a sudsy mug of beer;
like a bride ripping off her clothes,

dropping snow white petals to the ground in clouds,

so Nature's wastefulness seems quietly obscene.
It's been doing that all week:
making beauty,
and throwing it away,
and making more.

I just booked an appointment for a consultation about my tattoo at New York Adorned with Stephanie Tamez. Im super nervous but excited. Anyway she's booked till November so i have time to calm my nerves... but more importantly, I need to come up with more concrete ideas for a design. I know i want some kind of henna/mehndi inspired design, i want it on my forearm, kind of swirling up to my elbow, somewhat intricate. I don't know about colors, or placement, anything like that. I don't want to seem like a total idiot when i go there. This is my second tattoo but my first one took all of 30 seconds to do and it's a plain star that i got when i was 15 so it wasn't really involved. This time i definetly need more advice/imput if anyone can give me some tips and pointers as to what important things i need to ask or know to come up with a design with my artist. I just want to get what will look best because i'm not the professional. Thanks!!!

Paper flowers [Friday

[imaginepageant]
My favorite book in the world is Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews, and I want to base my next tattoo on it. If you haven't read the book: a mother locks her four children in a single bedroom in her wealthy parents' mansion, in order to hide their existence from her dying father so that she can inherit his fortune. The children have the attic as their playground, and they decorate it with paper flowers so that they have a garden while they're locked inside. That's what I want for my tattoo: paper flowers.

I really like how flower look without a black outline, like this one, so I definitely want to do it in that style. (I remember seeing someone post a tattoo of theirs that was similar, and I absolutely loved it. It was pink cherry blossoms with gray stems and I'm pretty sure it was on the front of their shoulder. If that person's still around, I'd really love to see it again for inspiration!) Another idea I had was to give the flowers a "threaded" outline... sort of like this (pardon my shitty drawing). Also, I don't want the flowers to look entirely realistic, but not too cartoony, either. They should resemble cardboard cutouts, because that's what they were in the book.

Please throw some ideas at me! Pictures of a similar style, or anything you think might work, would be great as well. I'm at the early stages of planning so I'd like to see as many different things as I can to take into consideration. Thanks!

[ mood | :-) ]

a general art update (i send this to the people on my art mailing list). :)

This is just a quick update to let you know that 6 new items have been added to my etsy shop (see images below). The paintings are currently listed as prints, but some of the originals are still for sale, so if you'd like an actual Tam original (hem hem ;)) do enquire and I'll let you know if the original is still for sale! :-)

Additionally, I wanted to let you know that I'm available for more commissions! I've had quite a few commission request recently to paint paintings for people based on their pictures of friends or family; note; I don't tend to do realistic portraits but I'd paint the image in my own "whimsical" style using as many characteristics of the person in the image. [ie: you're gonna get a whimsical girl/ boy with characteristics of the individual in question]. They are wonderful gifts for birthdays or Christmas! [or so I'm told!]

If you are interested in ordering a commission you can either use the 'alchemy - request custom item' feature on etsy (www.willowing.etsy.com) or just email me (tam [at] willowing [dot] org) with your requests/ ideas and I'll let you know about prices.
