01:29 pm - Hallelujah

It is all about the Pope and his popemobile right now on TV:
"Pope to ride through fifth ave on popemobile". Okay.

One of the anchors just quipped [referring to "Papalpalooza"]
"we have learned that the Pope is not much into Kelly Clarkson but he really digs Mozart"

11:37 pm - Life lives life dies

What do you say when your father is grieving the death of his best friend from his childhood, his only true friend, the friend who was the only real link to the life & memories before he met my mother. The regret he is feeling for not being able to see his friend, be at his side when he was sick and dying is heartbreaking.
I feel helpless and angry at myself for not being with my Papa when he is dealing with this shattering loss.
I wish I can forever protect people I love from grief and loss. A moment like this hardens my resolve to move back to homeland.

08:14 pm - On Vox: Blah movie of the week
After work, a friend and I decided to watch a movie - any movie that was running next as soon as we reached to theater.
Unfortunately, it was this <------- snoozefest.
Thandie Newton, why oh why?
Harish Patel was a surprise and not a good one.
Later found out that it is directed by Ross from 'Friends' sitcom.  Well, that  figures!

There were total 4 viewers in the theater including us!

11:54 am - On Vox: India - maps and directions

Whoa! I just discovered Yahoo maps for India. Directions are pretty accurate. This is really quite an achievement considering the fact that no standard street naming or numbering logic is followed in our Desh!

07:13 pm - On Vox: Most remarkable memoir of any time...
" I am fond of my alphabet letters. At night, when it is a little too dark and the only sign of life is the small red spot in he center of the television screen, vowels and consonants dance for me to a Charles Trenet tune: "Dear Venice, sweet Venice, I'll always remember you..." Hand in hand, the letters cross the room, whirl around the bed, sweep past the window wriggle across the wall, swoop to the door, and return to begin again.

06:16 pm - On Vox: Success - dreams - happiness

Success is following the restlessness of your mind and continuously keep rising above your current circumstances, raising the bar for yourself.
Success has meant different things to me at different times in my life....as a kid - topping the class at school, as an adolescent - finding my love, as a college student - having the job, as a career person - accumulating more power/recognition/wealth, as an Indian in America - searching for a sense of belonging, as a grown up - finding the purpose/meaning of my existence, as a woman - building a harmonious home and a happy partnership...

Having constant inch to scratch, having new dreams as you evolve as a human being, quickly moving on to achieve new dreams as soon as you realize old ones, freedom from your old beliefs and from your old self as you chase after your new self, that is what makes me happy.

03:27 am - Funny
No doubt "the speech" was a courageous act for anyone who is in American politics but it also saddens me that in this country a person still have to claim to be a Christian to get elected.
He can not disown religion even if a person of his intellect would know that religion is the root cause of great injustice and racial bias in this country.
I have heard far more derogatory, inflammatory, ignorant, burn-my ears-venomous speeches in white churches across bible belt…And America pretends to be shocked by Jeremiah Wright's sound bites? heh.

03:13 am - Madness
I am seriously sleep deprived since January. Reason?
Daily, after coming from office and having dinner, I sit in front of CNN/MSNBC/Daily show/Leno/Letterman/Colbert/Ferguson/back to CNN-Anderson, with laptop in my lap simultaneously reading all 180000 comments of the day on Dailykos, gazzilian articles on Newsweek/NYtimes/Huffpost/Time and countless other blogs - reading anything written about Obama & this campaign through out the day...I know I am not the only one.

By the time I go to bed, it is usually 3-4 am...and this is during weekdays.

This has to stop. I am unplugging tv and internet for next three days. I am going on vacation.

12:32 am - NH: D - Debate
What fun!

Obama: he looked tired - still a class act
Hillary: so articulate, she was better prepared than anyone, but attacking Obama will be a big blow
Edwards: oh so annoying with that drawl
Richardson: Mr. secretary - he sure does hate Musharraf
Really missed Kucinich

Best moments:
  • Edwards responding to Hillary's attack on Obama
  • Obama's GOP debate/football comment
  • Obama saying - "you are likeable enough Hillary" without even looking at her...smooth

01:55 pm - The Times They Are A-Changin
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
- Dylan

There are two major lakes in the area. Lake Crabtree and Jordan lake.
Jordan lake is about 20 minutes drive from here. It has many parks, camping areas and boat ramps.

12:13 am - Heard on TV...
Yesterday while channel surfing, I heard Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh Grameen Bank on Charlie Rose show. I do admire his exuberant and what he has done for poor people but there were couple of exasperations.
He said his telecom company GraminTelecom was Asia's biggest telecom company until recently then added that one Indian company is slightly bigger now!! Then he said, India & other poor nations are starting to adopt his Gramin bank idea!! ummm...What???? Don't we have Nagarik Sahakari Banks since ages? Our village banks and co-operative banks were founded on same concept and they exist since independence...
Will have to read more to find out truth in his claims...
