Sarah Palin Poll [Sep. 22nd, 2008|01:10 pm]
Got this in my email today. Please pass it along!

Here is a small thing you can do in two clicks – SECONDS!  Check this out please and fast.

The Right is having people vote that Palin is qualified…

Let's turn this around!!!

PBS has a poll that asks: Is Sarah Palin qualified to be VP?  Let's turn this around..... You don't have to give your name or email address in order to vote. It's very simple.

Here's the link:   http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

After 'voting,' please pass this along to everyone you know.  Every poll matters, and strong anti-Palin opinion helps to affirm the Democratic party's ticket in the minds of those across the country who may still be undecided.

Voter Registration [Sep. 17th, 2008|12:36 pm]
On Monday, Stephanie and I sent in our voter registration cards because we just moved. I had been meaning to post about registering to vote, but Raina made a great post, which is right here and is an example of why you should check and make sure your voting stuff is in order. In Rhode Island, you must be registered 30 days before an election (that would be by October 4th). You might want to double check the rules in your state! Here's Raina's post:

Unbelievably, I just realized my voter information was NOT UP TO DATE!

I've been a registered voter in New York State since 2004, so I figured I was all set for November. But I decided to confirm it anyway, because you never know. So I checked, and only THEN did I realize--hey! I've moved apartments since 2004! Would that have affected my ability to place my vote? Who knows? But this is not the kind of election where I want to take chances.

Are YOU registered?

Is YOUR personal info up-to-date?

Are you SURE?

Did you move? Get married? Change your name?

You can go here to check. Or register. Every state is different, and every state has a different deadline for submitting your registration--New York's is October 10. The website will tell you what your state's deadline is, and where to send your form. It took about 2 minutes for me to do this.

This is important, you guys. I may or may not have more to say about the election as it gets closer, but suffice it to say I've been thinking about it since early this year, even if I haven't been talking about it publicly. Just please please do it.

Thanks.

~raina

Polar Bears for Change [Sep. 16th, 2008|06:48 pm]
In May of 2008, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) sought to challenge the addition of the Polar Bear to the threatened species list. The reason was because she feared that protecting the species would hamper efforts to drill for oil.
As of now, polar bears do not have the right to vote in the United States. But you do! And until they can, show your support for them! I created the sticker below (it's about 4"x3.5") and it can be yours for just $2! Want to hand some out to your friends? Then $10 will get you a sheet of 6!
Every time you buy a sticker from me, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Obama/Biden campaign directly.

You can Paypal me at the address zgiallongo AT gmail DOT com. Comment or email me directly if Paypal's not your thing.

Artists and designers: Let's stop TALKING politics and get involved doing the things we do best!

Two Flowers for the Dragon [Aug. 13th, 2008|08:09 pm]
Lately I've been working on a manga that I think most of you should pick up and read!

Two Flowers for the Dragon is one of those rare books I've been lettering that I actually now have a personal interest in. It's a fantasy/romance/comedy/adventure about a princess who has two suitors. One is her recently-returned childhood fiance who was believed dead for many years, and the other her strong bodyguard who took up the mantle of fiance in the original's absence.
This might sound like a hackneyed plot, but there's a lot in this manga that makes it interesting. For one, the heroine - Shakuya - turns into a dragon when she's angered. That's right - she's shojo's very own Incredible Hulk. She also has twin tattoos on each arm which are connected to her fiances. As her love for one of them grows, so does the corresponding tattoo!
But the great part about this story is that the romance is never... well... overly shojo-y. It's not a frustrating play in which no progress is ever made (something that bugs me about A LOT of manga). Plus, there's a lot of cool action and an interesting setting that would appeal to those not interested in romance.

The first two volumes are out, although if you pick up the first volume, you'll notice I'm not credited. the reason is that I was brought in to pinch hit on this project after the first 10 pages, but through a few editorial snafus, the credit page didn't change. But I ASSURE YOU, the lettering work is mine, and is so in subsequent volumes as well :). Plus, Steph and I are currently working together on volume 3.
Two Flowers from the Dragon is from CMX and currently up to 5 volumes in Japan and still going. You should give it a try and make it a hit in America!

Art Cards for Sale [Aug. 12th, 2008|09:38 pm]

After doing well over 1,500 sketch cards for Topps over the past months, I thought I'd do some of my own art cards! I've seen a lot of other people do similar cards and put them up for sale and I thought I'd do the same.
But, I also have a goal. For those of you who don't know, Steph and I will be moving next month. The only snag is that Steph will be away for the two weeks leading up to the move, which leaves much of the logistics and lifting to myself and a few unlucky friends. As with any move, some extra cash is sorely needed. Hence, these 4X6 cards! I've posted above only the first set of many. They are just a paltry $10 each!
If you'd like to claim one, just comment here. You can Paypal or email me questions at zgiallongo AT gmail DOT com.
also, if you feel so inclined, it'd be great if you might spread the word about my little last-minute project. My goal is to try and sell 20 cards. I will upload many more in the following days. CAN HE DO IT? Only YOU hold the answer!
PS - I'll do requests, too!
PPS - If you do cross-post, let me know and I will send you a card for free!
