The Prids rolled their van!!!!

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 12:10 PM

You may or may not already know but here is the news from <a href="http://www.theprids.com/">their website</a>

Our dear friends The Prids - David, Mistina, Joey and Maile - and two of their significant others - Kristin and Chris - were in a serious accident early Sunday evening while en route to Los Angeles on tour.

A tire blew and they lost control of the van and it rolled several times. David was airlifted from the scene of the crash, he suffered a broken collar bone, broken ribs and has 6 staples in his head. Chris broke his arm and may have spinal injuries. Maile has a broken vertebra and toe and a severe cut with stitches on her knee. Joey broke ribs, Mistina suffered a concussion, and as far as I know Kristin is in similar shape. As of late last night, everyone had been released from the hospital but David had to go back in the middle of the night and is still there. The rest are staying at a hotel in Fresno.

A special paypal account has been set up to help out and donate directly to The Prids. They need help getting home and paying their hospital bills. If you can't help out monetarily, please repost this info on your blogs, etc. Thanks!

If you have problems with the link, you can send money directly to "donate@theprids.com" or go to <a href="http://www.theprids.com/">their website</a>.

This is pretty sad. The Prids are a local favorite and a great band. I remember the time I went to their show and Courtney Love showed up and we tried to hang out with her after but she was in bed. Anyway if you have some spare dollars. They likely have American Healthcare (which means none).

The Weekend

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 9:55 AM

Friday I went over house sitting stuff with D and J and then went home and went to bed. Saturday was largely spent doing various things. Acupuncture left me irritable. I went to buy comics and read them and ran into friends and then  more friends and then I went home for a nap. I failed to do that and got up and fixed my bike which took like 2 hours. I had to patch a tube and put my kevlar liners in the wheels so I can avoid patching an other tube. It was a huge pain in the ass and I'm not sure I did it right but whatever. I need to fix the brakes again. Next time I'll just get a pro to do it. It seriously was harder than you'd think even with the right tools.

I then went to see Dark Knight with [info]beatings and it was well, I dunno. Not awesome. The acting was good, the script was forgettable. Heath Ledger was awesome. Two face's prostetics were cool. I wish the script had been better but I have to agree with [info]morimur in that we weren't seeing anything really new here. I enjoyed it none the less. I went to a traveling party which was kind of fun and then [info]beatings and I went home and ate some protean and went to bed.

Sunday was rehearsal and packing. I got some big rubbermaid totes for my stuff. I'll most likely have to get a few more but the packing has begun in earnest. I'll be moving stuff over piece by piece starting to night. Speaking of which, if you want some groovy furniture I'm selling cheap.

Sheez. It's out here waiting just come and give me between $800 and $950 dollars for it.

Please?

Ok thanks.

Rehearsal again

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 10:14 AM

So yesterday was our first run through at the park and it was total chaos. The space itself is huge and pulls us all apart. Further more there are people all over the place. They seem to dig it or at least dig the spectacle, but let me tell you this, black people are not digging boys in lacy slips with mohawks running out of the rose garden to the bathroom. I got a whole bunch of 'ooo girl look at that white boy. Why he wearing a dress? Hell if I know Tyron. White people are weird' kind of looks that really amounted to raised eyebrows. I could give a shit anyway. I had to go! Plus I've worn worse out fits to less safe and respectful places.

The run through despite the chaos actually went really smoothly. First run throughs are always start, stop, hurry up and now CHAOS! I've learned from years of this that you just shut up and let the people who need to figure this out figure it out. There is a democratic spirit in the group which is nice but it contributes to the chaos. I generally don't ask a lot of questions b/c I feel like as an actor it's my job to you know, figure these things out and if the director doesn't like it they can move me. This isn't so with most of them it's always, 'well where am I supposed to stand' when really what they were doing is likely fine. The director then thinks 'omg there is a problem i have to fix' and so they spend 10 minutes fixing a non-problem but that isn't uncommon.

It's a good thing I'm perfect isn't it? LOL

The project is shaping up to be exciting. With the lights and mics and everything it's gonna be pretty. For me, timing is still an issue with the other Mechanicals but I'm not sweating it. I'm focusing on getting my movements to match my cheezy dialouge which is really fun. I've changed what I'm doing with my voice b/c you couldn't understand what the fuck I'm doing. I also dropped entirely, everything I was doing on the Thisbe death scene. This is not a place for subtlity. It's time for the Ham. So I'm playing the whole thing for comedy. It works better this way and in contrast to the butoh stuff will please the audience which is just fine with me for once in my life the audience will love me and then I'll have a baby and we'll go on a killing spree and I'll dye my hairl black just like Juliet Lewis in natural born killers.

Yeap. That's my plan. As you can see, I'm a little sassy today b/c I got home at like midnight b/c our rehearsal went long and I had to try on wigs and then bring some former Precious Costumes and some other fancy stuff from previous incarnations of me over to Mizu's house so the fairies can have their fairy way for them. Nearly all of Precious is gone. I have so little left! I feel lighter. I was keeping it but then I was like 'I'm never going to use this shit' so I gave it up.

Anyway, this Deepest Sender add-on is really really groovy. I suggest it to everyone. It slips into your Tools menu on FireFox and you can update away, Tags and filters and everything. It's a million times faster than having to open up old LJ and pulling down the post menu and waiting for the bloated code to produce your white box.

My What A Busy Weekend

  • Jul. 14th, 2008 at 9:37 AM

Saturday - Got up. Went to Acupuncture which is helping but not enough. My anxiety can't seem to be quelled and I think that it is related to the amount of busy I am which I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand I want to be busy with my projects but on the other hand I want to not be anxious about various things, anyway I am mostly only anxious at work b/c I have long periods of doing things I don't want to do really all for filling the ever present larder. Anyway larder filling aside, there are other things going on in the back of my mind which effectively equal 'oh shit you have a bunch of shit to do so you should do it.' Also the inositol experiment went poorly. 18 grams a day of anything is just too much. My system couldn't handle it. Not to be all TMI but I have the shits like no one's business and it was all very yucky appetite killing badness. I'll attempt it again at some point under the direction of a doctor perhaps b/c the studies looked good but maybe it was all just a bunch of BS. Anyway, my friend D's Chinese medicine woman seems to have some different ideas that are real real old in regards to panic disorders so I'm gonna go check her out and see what she has to say. I dunno if it's going to be any different really but acupunture seems to help so why not.

After acupunture I went to the bike store to get kevlar liners for my tiers b/c I keep getting flats. I also discovered that I haven't a clue as to change a bike tire so I am going to ask the internets today and then if they don't know I'll ask you all. Maybe you can come over and we can change my bike tire in our underwear and post it on the internet or we can like cam changing the bike tire.

After all that there was lunch and then the Mississippi Street fair to promote the Water in the Desert thing. I showed up in my cover alls and did the contact improv and Butoh with the fairies. We certainly attracted attention and handed out fliers. It was hot. I got some sun. My arms and face are brown and freckled. After that I went home and got my hair cut by [info]circe_magnifica.

I went to Blow Pony so I could make some money there. I made $24 in tips which was decent but not the awesomeness of gay pride. I was also on the tired side so I didn't hustle as hard as I did last time. There wasn't as much to hustle. My ex-boyfriend Chris was there with his new boyfriend which was only weird b/c I was worried he would want to speak to me but I was able to avoid making eye contact and speaking to him. I don't care that he has a new boyfriend in fact I think it's great I just don't have anything to say to him other than 'your kind of a selfish shit and if you expect me to have the whole OHHIHOWAREYOUYOULOOKGREATOHISTHATYOURNEWBOYFRIEND?
conversation that isn't going to happen.'

I don't wish any suffering on Chris. I'm glad he was able to pull his head out of his ass enough to get a new boyfriend and I don't entirely blame him for the collapse of our relationship b/c it was me after all who chose to end it (which was part of the problem)  and I could be said to have been 'having some issues' at that time in my life but he also didn't make it any better.

Anyway enough about my ex. He was there with his new boyfriend which surprised me b/c by the end of our relationship I was sort of like 'How the fuck do I end up with these socially retarded morons?'  Chris was one of those gays who can't handle the fact that he is gay and can't seem to figure out how to socialize with the gays which granted is kind of like socializing with a bunch of Heathers in heat but they aren't all like that. I know a few of the gays who can't seem to play the game or don't know how. I remember this one time that one of the gays from the OTO showed up at the Eagle and this gay is virtually unable to speak anything but his Gospel of truth and Kablabla which means he either spends time with people how view him as the guru or he spends time with people who find is Kablabla amusing (most gays find Kablabla confusing) rather than the sort of everyday people who talk about Friends or their friends or their jobs or booze or whatever. Anyway, there is something to be said for being able to mingle with the sheep once and a whilie. It makes life a little easier but anyway these gays can't seem to do that. I dunno if they don't fit in or if they just refuse to or can't figure out how. In some ways I get that b/c underneath the costume I put on for the gays that's me to but I've learned to have enough window dressing to work it enough to be an enigmatic yet ellusive figure who is frequently betrayed by his own mouth.

Anyway, I figured Chris would go back to Japan where he fitting in by not fitting in is the way of the Gaijan (spelling) but I guess he stayed or whatever.

Anyway, stripping was fun and smokey and wild. I was DONE in all capital letters after it was over so I went home with this guy who is cute and a friend of some friends to sleep in his ultra comfortable bed (I need a new bed really bad).  Then he made me breakfast and we watched the morning unfold. Then I went home and slept some more and got up and ate some food and tried to fix my bike again and failed. Then I met with X to talk about my new tattoo which started off small but is now a whole sleave which is more $ but I think I'm going to do it. It's been like 7 years since I've had any tattoo and I'm over do. Then I went home and went to bed. I did not pass go and did not collect $200.

Oh I finally got to meet [info]pdxnightwalker and also got a call from an other person I knew from the internet. Oh Portland, why are all these people showing up now? Oh yes, b/c I'm leaving and that is what happens. ;)

Now I am awake and I have just enough work to keep me busy for a about a day and a half.

El Greco

  • Jul. 11th, 2008 at 3:27 PM

I would like to see a movie made of the life of El Greco. Actually, I think I would like to create a short film in which El Greco extends to the pope, his invitation paint over Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel. As great as the Chapel is I AM curious what it would look like if El Greco got a hold of it.

Check this out!

The mysterious sliding rocks of Race Track Playa The level surface of this parched basin provides the backdrop for one of Death Valley's most intriguing geological puzzles, the mysterious sliding rocks of Racetrack Playa. Scattered across the extraordinarily flat surface of Racetrack Playa, far from the edges of the surrounding mountains are boulders, some up to 320 kg (705 lb), and smaller pieces of rock. Stretching behind many of the stones you'll see grooved trails. Some are short, some long, some straight, some curvy. Clearly, these rocks must gouge furrows as they slide across the playa surface, yet no living person has ever witnessed these amazing rocks move! What makes these rocks skid as much as 880 meters (2890 ft.) across the flat playa surface? Recent scientific sleuthing provides some answers. Racetrack Playa is an almost perfectly flat dry lake bed nestled between the Cottonwood Mountains to the east and the Last Chance Range to the west. During periods of heavy rain, water washes down from nearby mountain slopes onto the playa, forming a shallow, short-lived lake. Under the hot Death Valley sun, the thin veneer of water quickly evaporates, leaving behind a layer of soft mud. As the mud dries, it shrinks and cracks into a mosaic of interlocking polygons.

At Least I Knew I Was In Costume
I was wondering if anyone of you knew anyone can appraise old clothes. I have a frock coat that I'm fairly sure dates sometime between 1850 and 1910 but I don't know anything about it. I'm going to sell and would like to know what I am selling. Please advise.

Thanks,

The Clinic is walk in from 8am to 4:4pm. I have a car it's a standard so if you need to use it you need to drive stick. If not, I'd be grateful if you came and picked me up.

I wouldn't ask but I am super duper sick.

Thanks,

Vision Plan

  • Mar. 18th, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Turns out that this year you had to specifically select that you want Vision (rather than having it just automatically sign you up) so this year, I have no Vision coverage.

What does this mean?

This means that I am paying $300 dollars for my whole eye exam and lenses, which is exactly what I need to hear right now.

Exactly.

I bet the company saved a bunch of money on that!

I don't really want to hear any sympathetic words about this b/c there is nothing to say. It's moronic that this isn't covered to begin with.

If you want to help you can point me to someone who has a Costco card or some where else I can get the whole thing for less than $300 dollars.

Anything else will just piss me off.

This is Franz Schubert - Allegro giusto - Sonata in A minor D.784 which is also fantastic. It represents pretty much everything that was awesome about the Romantic era. Excuse the kind of funny image of Franz.

Buffy Pilot

This was the pilot Whedon put together for the network. It's mostly just a cheapo version of Episode 1 but its kind of fun to see the rough sketch and wow, check out the girl playing Willow...imagine how things could have been different.
