Since my profile page is a bit...shall we say...eccentric in style, I decided to make a post that might give people a hint about what actually goes on here and where to find the important stuff. Or possibly to run away. This is your last warning. Mwhahahahaha.

Solarbabies fic--Of Earth And Stars  
Title: Of Earth and Stars

Summary: A few months after the destruction of E-Protectorate’s Aquabunker, society is in chaos as the Protectorate’s power-base crumbles and an economy based on water-trading now contends with ecological changes and the availability of open water. Darstar and the Solarbabies are safely at the Eco-Warriors’ Oasis, but Darstar isn’t sure he wants to stay. Terra doesn’t like the idea of his leaving, but what can she do about it?

A/N: The story is written for [info]mercscilla, who turned me on to Solarbabies in the first place. She’s right. Darstar is much more interesting than Jason. I’m not a big fan of AU stories where the author just decrees that one or another character isn’t there, and I do like Jason, though I’d prefer he wasn’t with Terra. (There’s just no chemistry and the whole relationship seemed to be mostly based on the fact that both of them were in a sort of displaced parental role with Daniel and the fact that they were together all the time than any real connection on a psycho-emotional level. ) My first idea was to have Jason not survive the jump over the bridge and then do a partial re-write of the movie from there, but the more I thought about it, the more I was uncomfortable with the trauma that would have caused Daniel. So what I ended up with was a story set a few months after the film.

Solarbabies falls into the category of “bad movies I like anyway.” I just don’t happen to like it as much as I like certain other ones. Actually, I don’t usually like post apocalyptic anything, but the elements of fantasy in this appeal to me, and the Eco-Warriors remind me of the Fremen The film strikes me as something with a marvelously interesting premise and annoyingly poor execution. The characters could have been interesting, but there isn’t much development of their personalities. A lot of things either don’t make sense or require further explanation. For example, roller skates do not work in the desert for any length of time in a sandy, rock-strewn environment. Yet the kids were on their skates in the desert for day without any problem. Distilling TIRES for water? And how exactly does a glacier get trapped under a lava flow? I have some ideas both for character development and explanation—or at least re-imagining—but I’m not sure I want to invest that kind of effort. One Path needs to be finished before I undertake any more major fanfiction projects, and currently my original work is my priority. So, for now this is a one-shot.

Question for One Path readers  
Okay. Let me preface this by saying it's sincerely a QUESTION and not a gripe or a reason to make anyone uncomfortable or defensive or whatever. I post this fic on other places besides LJ but this happens to be the place where I can interract with groups of readers, so you guys tend to be the ones I hit with with questions and such. I care about reader response because it's the only way I have to gauge whether the story's intent is being undertood by the audience. I try really hard to address the concerns brought to me by reviewers, whether positive, negative, or something in between.

I feel that we laid a considerable amount of groundwork for the Cloud City duel and what would take place there in terms of a certain line spoken by Vader. There were several scenes (albiet short ones) that dealt with Vader feeling that his life had been taken from him; that he was angry with Obi Wan for it; that he felt Padme and her children should have been his. There was even a scene in which he was alone, brooding about this, and the narrative of his thought process specifically mentioned that he intended to turn the boys against their father with a lie.

Two or three times now, I've received comments essentially saying "What on Earth? Why would Vader say 'I am your father' to Luke?" As the author, it's blatantly obvious to me why he would say it and what he wants to accomplish. Especially given the fact that he is CLEARLY delusional and has been growing more delusional ever since the night of the siege on the Temple. In my mind, even the stuff he said to Luke in the rest of that exchange of dialogue explain why he said it. Judging from this reaction, his reasons are apparently not so obvious to others.

I get the fact that the line produces a "I can't believe he said that!" response. However, that's different from "Why did he say that?"

I know One Path's Vader a lot better than anyone else reading the story, so it's possible that his motivations make sense to me because he lives in my head rather than because the story makes his thought processes clear to others. Honestly, though, the only other way I can see would have been to have him sit there like "And once I've taken care of Ani, I'll tell Luke I'm his father...mwhahahahaha!" which to me feels like an insult to the intelligence of the audience.

Are there a lot of people out there who are confused about this right now? Do I need to do something to make Vader's goals and reasoning more apparent? (If the answer turns out to be yes, I'm going to need to hold a major pow-wow with [info]aruna7 and [info]polgarawolf before continuing, so...be warned you two.) What exactly is missing in regard to Vader and how does it need to be addressed?

Fic updates  
Apparently, some people thought that One Path had been abandoned. Let me assure everyone it hasn't been, although I'm currently unable to post updates every week as I was in the habit of doing. Please bear with me as I'm having a very difficult time writing due to RL issues and health stuff right now. Most of my attention and energy is therefore focused on my original work at the moment.

Also,yesterday I finally got the DVDs I need to do adaquate research for a fic project called Guardians of Grayskull which has been in the back of my head for more than ten years. --Yes, before I had any notion of the shows being released to DVD. So, I will most likely be off making notes and re-acquainting myself with the people of Eternia and Etheria.

As I mentioned in my recent "Hi, I'm still alive" post updates to my SW AUs will be made, but not as frequently as One Path readers have been spoiled into come to expect. ;)

Most of the Executor/Cloud City rescue stuff is still out of order, but I've decided to post a few chapters.

She-Ra vid: The General's Journey  


Title : The General's Journey
Pairing/Characters : Mainly Sunder and Sunder/Malley, appearances by the Rebels and Hordak.
Music : The song is "World Without Heroes" by Kiss
Summary : Sunder's journey from a Horde general to a Rebel hero.
Notes : I'm not entirely happy with the timing on this vid. The song proved to be a bit tricky. Overall, though, I am happy with the vid, and I'm glad I could do it because Sunder is my favorite of the Rebels besides Adora. I wish they'd done more with him.

He-Man and She-Ra vid: Truth Be Known  
I made this for my sister and uploaded it for her so I decided to post it. This is my first vid in the fandom, but now that the rest of my DVDs have shipped, I'm sure I'll be doing some about Teela soon too. ;)

Vids and Rant-y writer post.  
>_< The following post may seem rant-y. I've had a rough last few days. More bad news, this time involving an accident and one of my oldest friends. (Known each other since 3rd grade.) Also sick again, so, so please excuse cranky-ness. Ahem.

Some days, I really wonder if I speak the same version of the english language that others do. I recently posted a vid called "Heart of Steel" on Youtube. It's an AU vid based on One Path and basically it's about the way that the family remains constant and true to one another through all the damage and suffering inflicted by the two wars in the SW saga. So, I received a comment tonight like "I love this vid. It's so cute and sweet."

*sigh* You might as well say the Mustafar duel or Death Star I was CUTE and SWEET.

I was going to wait until I had the downloadable versions of my recent all up before posting them, but really. Could someone who has read One Path please explain the use of the word cute?

Musical tastes and personality...  
I came across this article on Yahoo news this morning. Contrary to other things I've seen on the web about musical tastes and personality, this seems to have been conducted by a credible research team. I'm curious as to what such a study would have to say about me, since I don't like only one style of music. I'm going to check out the website and see what I can find. I thought a few other audiophiles on my flist might be interested.

Good news for the 80s children on my flist! (And/or fans of 80s toons). Best buy all the She-Ra boxsets on sale for $9.99 ea. I don't know how long it will last, but at that price, I could afford them, and I have been waiting forever. Hello From The Twilight Zone...  
I'd just like to say hello to everyone who's been reading my fics and promise you all that there will at some point be updates again. July and August were rough months for me personally and my writing has suffered. I've been hard pressed to write, and when I have been able to do so, I've had to focus on my original work, which is a priority. So, my writing schedule has been shot to heck. Over the past week, I've been reading through One Path, Taking The Long Way, and RH, trying to get back in the swing of things. I've even made a few vids and some fanart that will get posted at some point. I have lots of ideas for writing and not a lot of...er...words, if that makes sense. I don't want to make promises about when fic updates will occur, so I won't be fixing the schedule right away, but I hope to have a better grip on things in the next week or so.

One thing that I have to say is that I've also been reading through old commentary as I read the posts. Some of them are hillarious, some are thought provoking, and some make me wonder just how much carpet I was smoking at the time they were made. They also make me very aware of the need to thank (or possibly frying pan) my three biggest plot-enablers, [info]aruna7, [info]teddibear, and [info]polgarawolf. I say this with all sincerity-- my fics wouldn't be the same without you.

Vader's Daughter  
Apparently I need to make Vader's Daughter icons. It feels weird using this icon, but it's the closest one I have.

Anyway, I am temporarily returning from my most recent LJ exile because the reviews I've been getting on Vader's Daughter are starting to make me feel like a need to qualify my earlier comments about the motivation for writing the drabble cycle.


I don't hate Luke, at least not now. I didn't like him when I was a child first exposed to the Star Wars universe, however the phrase "active dislike" is not the same as "hatred." I just never cared for his stupidity and disrespect, or his whiny irresponsibility. That said, I think his reaction in wanting to save Vader, being able to see the glimmer of humanity that is left in him, is part of what makes Star Wars more than just a scifi movie (or series of them). That idea, that no one is beyond redemption, has meant a lot to me in my life. In my opinion, it has more to do with hope and the need to remember that no one is beyond the possibility of redemption than it has to do with something that was inherently a father/son dynamic. The relationship happened to be father/son, but I see it as a vehicle for a more universal statement about love and what it means to be fallible. Generally speaking, I love father/son relationships. Anyone who reads One Path will get that idea rather quickly. They're all over the place. With Vader's Daughter, I just wanted to address an obvious problem and give Leia a chance to react to the idea that Vader is her father. I didn't want or mean to insinuate that Luke's relationship to Vader is less important, only to make the observation that Leia is never given on screen time to process or address the identity of her father.

The problem is, with the gap between ESB and ROTJ, there is never any process of adjustment or acceptance shown on film. Vader goes from being the epitome of evil to the idealized father and viewers are just expected to make this big emotional leap. Vader is never asked to atone or be held accountable for the horrible things he's done, and the suffering that he caused to his daughter(along with millions of people on Alderaan and more throughout the galaxy before that) is never acknowledged. The viewer has to just accept that a single, self-sacrificing act--which took him almost the entire battle to make because he couldn't decide whether he loved Luke--settles the debt. I don't mean to minimize the event or imply that Vader wasn't redeemed, but at the very least, more should have been done with Leia's reaction to her father, and the tension between the twins' views of him should have been acknowledged in some way.

As a woman and a writer, I feel a strong deep for and sense of identification with female characters who can be real and compelling rather than being cliched caricatures of "the strong female protagonist." That said, I have nothing against male characters, and I find nothing conspiratorial or misogynistic in the fact that Star Wars gives time to male relationship dynamics, and I had no intention of implying that Luke's relationship with Vader was born of a male-slanted bias in Star Wars. Everyone is welcome to his or her own interpretation, but that's not how I see it. I simply happen to like Leia better than Luke.

I had a hard drive crash a while back and although I had back-ups of most of my brushes and stuff, they were not organized by the name of the maker. I've also been going through and discovering a lot of people/stuff that's either gone or that I don't use anymore.

Mixed batch of graphics  
I had a burst of random inspiration the other day. Made some big collages and then decided to do matching headers, icons and stuff. The BSG stuff was a late addition. It's not really my fandom anymore. I gave up on it in season 3, so don't expect much more from me in this fandom, but Aruna needed cheering up so I decided to make an Adama/Roslin manip. I figured if I didn't do Kara/Lee as well, someone would ask for it, so I threw that in too. Somewhere along the way, the mess ended up inspiring Aruna's new crack series, Unexpected Ways. This is what happens to sleep deprived geniuses with no opportunities for vidding, I suppose. I can also post the uncolored manip, as well as a simple color treatment on the Apollo/Starbuck promo in case anyone wants to use and/or stare at them.

I'm going to let the icons function as teasers for the entire batch. I forgot the First Knight icons. Sorry about that.
