I am terrified of bringing this up to my father and sister-in-law. For completely different reasons. I mean, I'm also gonna ask my brother about it, but that's not that scary.

Ruth, however, is very religious. I'm trying to think of all the different reasons she could give for voting yes on it and things I could say in return. I mean, her big thing is that she wants to Save Us All. She worries about me and her brother and how we'll be going to hell because blah blah blaaaaah. But like, ok, whatever. I figure to most of that stuff, I can bring up the whole FREEDOM OF RELIGION aspect. I mean, atheists get married all the time. People of all religions do and do not. Gay people just want the same damn choice, and I don't see any of us trying to make it so that like, churches HAVE to gay-marry people.

So yeah. I'm scared of talking to her about it because of this stuff, but at the same time she is someone who actually listens to reason and can see other viewpoints and all, I just don't know if that will extend to actually voting on this. I'd rather she just skip that vote all together than vote YES.

But my dad.

I don't know. I seriously feel he's getting closer and closer to being completely cut out of my life.

See, Ruth is allowed to use the religion excuse, dumb as I think it is for something like this, because she is devout. She practises what she preaches. AND she's the right kind of Christian, the kind that actually does love everyone and doesn't judge and all. As I said, her issue is that she worries too much about what will happen to the people she loves.

My dad? My dad was raised Catholic in the sense that he went to Catholic school until high school.

That.. is about it.

He wasn't married in a Catholic church, so in their eyes? He's not even MARRIED, and therefore he has two children out of wedlock. He has no fucking right to judge other people.

PLUS. He is not a freakin practising Catholic!!!!!! He only uses it to hide his damn ignorance behind. And I am TERRIFIED of bringing this up with him because I just know that after two seconds I will want to punch him in the throat. I have that feeling a lot.

He just.. He is the most stubborn and set in his ways guy ever. He still loves Bush. He loves Palin. Even after he and my mom have explained how Palin is AGAINST WOMEN'S RIGHTS, he doesn't seem to care. He doesn't do ANY research on ANYTHING. Just watches FOX News and takes everything they say as gospel.

So yeah, listing facts and sources? Doesn't mean shit to him, because he laughs it off and ignores it. Happily going his own way.

So explaining stuff about Prop 8, while possibly working with Ruth, will not work with him. Telling him that hey, if he votes yes on this, I will actually, literally, never have anything to do with him again because he would be denying HIS OWN DAUGHTER equal rights? He'll laugh it off and give my anger a month at most.

Yeah. Ha ha, cause what's the big deal about being able to marry the person you love and have all the rights that come with it, right? Silly me.

So my mom's going to be 60 on the 16th. We're throwing a surprise party for her on the 18th, and it's going to Phantom of the Opera themed. She loooves most musicals anyway, but that's always been her favourite. I don't remember how old I was, but when it was being performed in LA loooong time ago, my parents got tickets and since my brother and I had heard the soundtrack so much from her, we begged to go too. We had front row seats. I remember being able to stand and look down at the orchestra.

So yeah. Apparently the plan is that that saturday, Ruth is going to take my mom shopping or whatever (maybe me, too. depends on if I want to stay behind and help decorate or not) and everyone will gather at our house.

Does anyone have any suggestions for decorations and/or food? I did some searching and all that's really said is like.. roses, drapings in colours of gold, purple, black or red, and lots of candles. And of course, play the soundtrack. heh. As for food, it's NOT going to be a big fancy dinner or anything, just snacks and stuff, so all the suggestions I found of uber fancy fish dishes and shit? Not so much.

and UGH, any cheap suggestions for what I can WEAR? Cause it'll be masks and that-era style of dress and just.. I'm not good with this stuff. Even with the google. heh. HELP ME PLEASE.

The invite my brother made is really nice, except for the parts that need changing. ;P Mainly.. it doesn't have a date or time. WTF, Charley? Also, he needs to change the phone number on it, since it is OUR number, and uh, my mom kinda answers the phone most of the time. But it's got my mom's senior picture on it, which I had to stealthily SNEAK OUT of the house to the garage to get at like, 10:30 PM one night, since all our pictures are no longer on the walls.

That sure was fun. The picture's still under my bed cause I was too lazy to put it right back. Tra la la.

In other news, the brother and family showed up and Angelina and Elijah wished me happy birthday like 80 times. Charley had them sign a card and there was a little picture of me and it was super cute. My gift from them all was apparently a sweater and socks, all chosen by me, because Ruth had a gift card. heh. I let the childrens "help" me open my gift from my parents, which included the Chuck DVDs and really cute Christmasy Peanuts window clings. \o/

We went to Boca di Beppo for dinner. I had yummy gnocchi. There was a big party at a table next to us as we were finishing up, and when he saw the pile of presents there, Elijah pointed and exclaimed "Jaime's presents!" SO CUTE.

That.. was about it.

Before we left, we took a few pictures. I look disgusting beyond the telling of it, but the kids look cute, so I'm suffering through it and posting anyway. ( yep. )

Whhhhy do they have to grow up?? While with Des, I get sad because she lost all her affection-giving capabilities, it seems, for Heaven I get sad because of her personal relationships.
