You get an ology, you're a scientist! If you're of a certain age, you'll no doubt remember the old British Telecom adverts from the late 80's/early 90's featuring Maureen Lipman as the stereotypically Jewish grandmother " Beattie". Well, they're now all online for you to view over at www.tellyads.com (along with other classics like the PG Tips adverts). Anthony, people will always need plates!Brilliant stuff :) Current Mood: amused | | Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 | | 11:09 am |
Grim up North... So, this report from BBC News has angered me. Northern cities 'beyond revival'Cities in northern England such as Liverpool, Sunderland and Bradford are "beyond revival" and residents should move south, a think tank has argued.( ...and here comes the rant )Once again, stupid ideas put forward by stupid people. *sigh* Redundant yet again. That's number 5 for me now...i think I'm now due a gold clock or something. I'm being kept on until September 30th (although if something comes up before then I'm fine to leave) and they're not leaving me empty-handed or anything. *sigh* Current Mood: sad | | Thursday, June 12th, 2008 | | 2:04 pm |
Ayethangyow! Those of you who know me in RealLife will know only too well of my penchant for downright awful puns and jokes - the kind of ones that really need some kind of *badoomtish* after them. Well, it looks like that day has finally come! http://www.instantrimshot.com/ <- just press the red button for a very satisfying drum-and-cymbal combination! In other news, I'm turning 30 tomorrow[0] *cries*. [0] this is considerably older than most of the people on the uk.media.tv.misc newsgroup, it would seem. Me too! Ping sphyg - I think this will interest you! From the "Memories" section of the Ormskirk Advertiser, which is also available online... 1991: Burscough Priory students in drama production - the production in question being "The Thwarting Of Baron Bolligrew". I had two roles in this...a non-speaking peasant (which was non-speaking, natch) AND a badger (which came out of nowhere, said 2 words and then disappeared again) I can't work out if I'm on the picture or not... Taking to the airwaves... An exciting day for me today! After 9 months of being a "comedy sidekick" on Thursday nights on Southport Hospital Radio, I fnally take charge of my very own show tonight! I've got an hour-and-a-half slot every Thursday night, between 7:00pm and 8:30pm. Still finalising the playlist for tonight, I just hope it'll go down well (with the full knowledge that I won't be able to please everyone, natch!) Who knows...tonight, Southport Hospital Radio; tomorrow, Radio Asda! Current Mood: excited | | Saturday, April 26th, 2008 | | 9:40 am |

Unsafe? More problems with Kath's flat...this time with regard to the kitchen. Kath was due to have a new cooker delivered and installed last Saturday[0] - this duly turned up at about 8:45am with the installers all ready to install. They took one look at the layout of the kitchen and immediately said that it was unsafe and that the cooker couldn't be fitted... - the cooker (an electric one) is right next to the sink - the washing machine is on the other side of the cooker; the water feed and waste pipes go *behind* the cooker to the outlets under the sink. Anyway, the landlord and letting agency were duly informed and arrangements were made for contractors to come out yesterday (Thursday) and fix it. The contractors came out, but they basically connected the cooker in exactly the same place as the old one - even though we were told that it's unsafe. To explain a bit better, here's what the kitchen looks like Image 1 Image 2 Is this actually unsafe? Is there some kind of legislation about having an electric cooker next to a sink, with water pipes running behind it? Or is it just sheer bloody common sense? [0] The old one was, quite frankly, bloody awful - it was from about 1964 and was technically unsafe as the temperature markings for the oven and grill had fallen off the control, so you couldn't actually tell what temperature the oven was at. Wow!!!!! Kath's just won 2 tickets to the Grand National! She's taking me! Current Mood: bouncy | | Thursday, March 13th, 2008 | | 12:27 pm |
Opinion needed. OK, I need your help on this. However I will warn you that this is not for the squeamish - if you are at all grossed out by pictures of bugs then please don't click on the link. Kath (my wonderful and fantastic girlfriend) found this thing running across her bathroom floor last night. We're now wondering if it's just a beetle, or a cockroach. What do you think? Ponderable. Something to think about...
If you sign up for a cable phone/tv/broadband service in a property, you usually enter into a 12 month minimum contract.
However, if after 6 months you then have to move and your new property is in an area that *isn't* covered by a cable service, you still have to pay the full remaining cost of the remaining part of the contract, despite the fact that you are no longer able to make use of the service at your new property due to the company not providing the facility there.

I feel the earth move...or rather, I don't. Earthquake felt across much of UKI really wish everyone would stop going on about this bloody earthquake. I feel suitably cheated that I felt nothing at all in Old Swan - I slept right through it. Well, I assume I slept through something; as I said, I felt nothing - there was nothing out of place or damaged this morning when I woke up. (and the first person to even think about mentioning "climate change" or "global warming" will get a very hard slap from me.) Besides, who needs earthquakes when there's something much more exciting to report... the dialling code for the new town of Ebbsfleet will be 01987. Er, eh? OK, try and work this out! I've just tried to call my GP to book an appointment. GP: "Hello, Surgery" Me: "Hi, I'd like to book an appointment please" GP: "We've got no more appointments today unless it's a medical emergency" Now, it's not a dire emergency - basically the rosacea on my face has flared up again. OK it's unsightly and a bit uncomfortable but certainly not life or death and definitely not urgent enough for a same-day appointment, so I (foolishly) assume that I should be able to get in sometime later this week. Me: "No, it's not an emergency, so anytime this week is fine, although if it can be as late in the day as possible that'd be fantastic" GP: "OK, bear with me while I check the book..." I hang on for about 15 seconds, then this happens... GP: "Sorry, we can't offer any more future appointments for this week...can you call back at 8:30am tomorrow?" Me: "Er, OK." So, going on the above experience, I can't actually see my GP no matter when I phone up. Unless it's at 8:30am and then I just hope for the best. I still can't understand it! Some things never change... Well, it's February 14th today...and of course that means only one thing - the annual, eagerly awaited Valentine's Day Rant! HOWEVER, the more astute of you will have noticed that I am no longer single (over 2 months now and still going strongly!) so shurely this means the end of my yearly vitriolic outburst? Of course not! Just because I'm now in the "annoyingly hasppy couple" category doesn't mean I can let you lot down..so, without further ado, LET THE RANTING BEGIN! (OK, a lot of this will actually be completely false now, but I'm leaving it in its unaltered, original state as I think it's just funnier.) Still :-( No further good news, I'm afraid; I was all set to post today about how Nan was on the mend and had been discharged from hospital, but I've just received a text message from Mum to say that Nan had been re-admitted this morning. Still not fully sure on what's happened but it's not looking good. I know I'm jumping the gun here but I'm so damn worried. *cries* Current Mood: still upset | | Monday, January 28th, 2008 | | 10:12 am |
:-( My Nan had a stroke yesterday. She's OK, under observation in Southport Hospital at the moment. Thankfully she's got no mental damage - her speech is fine and she's still very aware of what's going on, but her blood pressure has been spiking and she keeps on getting these weird feelings of numbness in her face and down one side of her body. She had a 'good night' last night (whatever that means) and I think they're going to do a CAT scan on her sometime today to try and assertain what exactly is going on and what damage there has been. I'm initially relieved that it's not given her any immediate mental damage, but it's left me so worried that this is going to happen again and that when it does, it's going to do some major damage. She's still so active, both mentally and physically, and it breaks my heart when I think of what's happened. Get well soon, Nan, please. Fame at last! We (that is, Roundabout Theatre Group) are in this week's copy of our local paper, the Ormskirk Advertiser, promoting our forthcoming pantomime "Aladdin". Yes, I know I've already plugged it, but we need to get bums on seats so here we go again... It's taking place next Friday and Saturday (Jan 25th and 26th) at Ormskirk Civic Hall. Performances at 7:30pm on the Fri and Sat, with a 2:30pm performance on Saturday afternoon too. Tickets still available - £5, £3 concessions - you can pay on the door! Come and see us, please! Anyway, the best of it is...we're in both the paper version and the online version!(no, I'm not the one in the wig and awful dress!) Current Mood: good | | Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 | | 11:49 am |
It's that time again... ...that time of the year when I indulge in a bit of shameless plugging for the next extravaganza from Skelmersdale's very own Roundabout Theatre Group. Yes, it's panto time again[0] and this year we're doing "Aladdin". In a blatant show of typecasting, I'm playing Wishee Washee, but I did kind of volunteer myself for the part so I can't really complain. We've even got a community song this year, so if you are coming to see it then I'd recommend you practice the first 2 verses of "Gilly-Gilly-Ossenfeffer-Katzenellen-Bog en-By-The-Sea", as anyone not singing along lustily to it will be bodily hauled up on stage to do a solo rendition :-) Dates/times are as follows - all performances are at West Lancashire's premier drama venue - Ormskirk Civic Hall, in the fair market town of, er, well, Ormskirk. * Friday January 25th @ 7:30pm * Saturday January 26th @ 2:30pm and 7:30pm Tickets are just £5, or £3 if you're 'concessionary'...in any case, a small price to pay for what can only be classed as high quality entertainment! If you do want tickets, let me know (comments screened) Here endeth the lesson :-) [0] Oh yes it is! Current Mood: bouncy | | Monday, December 31st, 2007 | | 12:19 pm |
Happy New... Off to Aberystwyth (yes, how original) in a bit to see out 2007 and see in 2008.
To everyone out there....

News update... OK, over a month since I last posted. Still having a break from LJ, but just to let you all know that I HAVE A JOB AGAIN! Working in Liverpool (the blue half, unfortunately, but we'll gloss over that) for online bits of Littlewoods. Should be interesting. Start after the bank holiday. That is all, anyway.
