07:12 pm: My cousin is dead.

St. Louis police have identified the man killed on at the I-55/I-44 interchange near downtown St. Louis. Police say 39-year-old Daniel Brown's car went off the road, struck a highway sign and flipped onto the driver's side, trapping Brown inside the car. He was pronounced dead at scene. An accident reconstruction team is investigating the cause, but slippery road conditions may have played a role.

There's a picture, too. :/ http://fox2ktvi.com/dynamic/images/stories/news/20060111-ax.jpg

He was so strong. He almost died from peritonitis a few months ago, and was just starting to get back to normal. I guess something, somewhere really wanted him to die.

He'd been driving a truck for years, but his house had been broken into and his truck stolen, and he was driving a rental compact. I guess he wasn't familiar with its handling. I don't know.

He flipped three times. Three times.

My aunt is in a state. Last night, she got a call from the cops, and they asked her if she was related to him. She said yes, figuring it was about the burglary at his house. They said they needed to come down to her house to talk to her, and they asked for directions. She called my cousin Carole and told her about it, and Carole figured it wasn't for real because the cops should know how to get to your house, right?

I guess not. Carole went over there, and not too much later the police pulled up, chaplain and all.

My aunt had to go to identify the body this morning. Apparently he didn't look that bad (they only showed her his face) -- he had a black eye and some scratches on his face.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and everyone figures he died instantly.

I don't have the heart to tell anyone that bruises won't form if the heart has stopped pumping blood. He was alive enough to get a black eye.

I keep seeing his face. It's really haunting.

Miss you, Danny.
