mood: depressed depressed

due to some personal stuff going on in my life right now, my journal - for the first time since i started it in 2002 - is friends only.

sorry to any of you who haven't been friended. i'm sure you understand. and for those of you looking for "dirt" on me, you've got 4 years of back entries to go through. have fun.

Ya Gatta Getcha Self Some Mawble Cahlums

mood: amused amused

i know this is almost a week late, but this skit on SNL made me laugh my ass off. mostly because of the fact that this ficticious company is located on the street i played on for 6 years of my life: central ave, lynbrook NY. hah! my house was on hempstead ave and my bestest friend lived on central and we'd play there all the time.

god, i have a love/hate relationship with the LI accent, for sure.

Cafepress now offering shirts up to 5X!

Mar. 16th, 2007 | 06:28 pm
location: home
mood: cheerful cheerful

this is awesome!

cafepress has introduced their line of Women's Plus shirts that go to 5X. i don't know about you, but i couldn't be more happy. i can fit into the woman's 2X, but it's snug. i can fit into the mens 2X, but it's too large (especially in the arms and length). but now i can feel comfortable in a woman's plus 2X. and according to the website, the 5X isa 32/34, which really, really impresses me.

i'm overjoyed that cafepress has taken this step. now all they have to do is offer more styles. right now all they have is the scoop neck and the v-neck. both only come in black or white. i'm hoping that they will add a few more colors within the next month or two. but still, black and white ain't too shabby! if any of you have purchased one of these new shirts, please let me know what you think!

i'm planning on updating my store to include the new plus sizes. if you see a design that you like but the new plus sizes aren't listed, please feel free to email me and i'll add it.

thanks, and happy shopping!

the host

Mar. 9th, 2007 | 10:25 pm
mood: thirsty thirsty

the hubs and i just went to see The Host. phillip has been talking about seeing this movie for WEEKS. so i finally said i'd go see it. it came out in theaters today.

i thought it was ok. phillip, on the other hand, hated it.

all the reviews raved about it and said it was funny and scary and just plain awesome. the truth? not so much. yes, it's enjoyable, but i was hoping for a lot more.

if you've seen it, what are your thoughts?

in other news, ONE MORE WEEK of at my job. HORRAY!

zodiac

Mar. 8th, 2007 | 06:34 am
mood: busy busy

last night, the hubs and i met at bock e to see Zodiac. it was good, albeit a little too long. and i wouldn't give it 4 stars out of 4 like VitaMN did. i'd give it 3 out of 4 due to length and the fact that jake gyllenhaal didn't go pantless ONCE. that disappointed me. ;)

i'm totally going to miss the bus! what am i doing on LJ??

six more days to go at this job. HOORAY!

did you know?

Mar. 6th, 2007 | 09:56 pm

the company (Unilever) that manufactures and brands Dove soap, also manufactures and brands Slim-fast?

if it were just soap, i probably wouldn't be bothered so much, but the whole new Dove campaign is basd around "Real Beauty", that knowing that they also make millions of diet products is a little off-putting.

thoughts?

lola got mail today

Feb. 26th, 2007 | 08:03 pm
mood: drained drained

did any of you send lola an organic catnip scratching post thingie? it was addressed to her and everything, but there was no note. she didn't quite know what to make of it at first, and kept rubbing up against it. she tipped it over three times, and as a result, i have catnip everywhere. but when phillip got home, she started scratching it, so i guess she's got the hang of it now.

anyway, lola says thank you to whomever sent it!

i've had a headache for the entire day and i don't know why. it's super annoying. so i'm going to go to bed in an hour or so.

tomorrow i'm going to joann fabrics with some coworkers after work. not only is a trip to a fabric store awesome, but the fact that i don't have to ride the bus home (thus saving $2) is even more awesome.

and i'm sure i'm in the minority (or am i?) here, but i finished listening to A Million Little Pieces today at work and i really liked it. of course, i know that it's not a memoir at all. but even if i didn't know, i don't think i'd believe for a second that any of that stuff really happened. but regardless, i thought it was good. i'm going to d/l and listen to my friend leonard tomorrow. i'll report back on that later.

if you've read A Million Little Pieces, what did you think? i'm not really looking for a discussion on james frey the person, but rather james frey the character in the book. so let me know.

that's all i've got for now.

and another thing

every time i look at this kare 11 banner i see the same thing: Sven Sundgaard (second from left) interlocking his hand through Belinda Jensen's arm.

Kare 11 Freak Out

of course, it's just her hand, but it looks like he's holding on for dear life.

this always makes me giggle because i refer to Sven as "our little weatherman!" because the dude is barely 4'5". of course, that's an exaggeration. he's more like 4'8".

oh, i referred to KARE 11 as WHDH twice today. same network, completely different cities.

the rapture

Feb. 21st, 2007 | 08:30 pm
mood: chipper chipper

i'm obsessed with the new Rapture record. The Hubs isn't too thrilled with it, but i listen to it at least once a day at work. it's a lot happier sounding than Echoes, and i think just a little bit better. although, Sister Saviour will always be my favorite Rapture song.

here's a video (although not my favorite song on the album. that would be The Devil). enjoy.

ps) i'm really bummed that they aren't touring around here. i really want to see them live. speaking of live shows, who is going to see The Faint at First Ave in March? I AM!

werk

Feb. 12th, 2007 | 09:14 pm
mood: drained drained

my job is still super boring. the only thing that gets me through the day is being able to listen to my MP3 player. today i listened to 8 hours of How I Paid for College : A Novel of Sex, Theft, Friendship & Musical Theater. it's super funny and i like the main character. i have 5 more hours to go of the story. so that leaves three hours of the day to fill with something else. i watched the episode of No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain almost kills himself on a four-wheeler in New Zeland. but that took up an hour of my time waiting for the bus this morning. so i think i'm going to listen to this book tomorrow after i'm done with How I Paid for College. yeah, it's a YA book, but i don't care. it was free to download and seems pretty funny and light. something i can listen to while doing mindless data entry at my jobbie job.

it's 9:20 and i have to go to bed. i'm a loser, i know.

some observations...

Feb. 10th, 2007 | 02:28 pm
mood: busy busy

  • i love how minnesotans use the word "cocktail". i especially like it when i'm asked "do you want to go cock-tailing on saturday?" sounds a lot better than "do you want to go drinking on saturday?" the former is much more sophisticated to my ears.

  • why doesn't the person nearest to the heat lamp button press it when the lamps go out at [enter metro bus stop here]? why is it that someone five feet away has to walk up, press it, and then go back to his/her spot? do you know how many times i've hit the heat button in the Uptown station when the person standing 2 inches from it keeps reading/staring out the window/pretending not to notice?

  • audiobooks are underrated

  • i seem to only be able to listen to audiobooks if the story is in the first person. if it's in the third, my mind drifts and i'm unable to concentrate. i can read third person stories just fine. i just can't listen to them.

  • i think i'm my MIL's best friend. she calls me more than my own mom does. not that i'm complaining. it's just weird to hear about her personal life. she talks to me like i'm her best girlfriend, instead of her daughter-in-law. i guess in a weird sort of way i've always wanted that, since i had zero personal conversation with my own mom growing up. hell, i'm still waiting for her to tell me what is going to happen when i get my period.

  • lola has "learned" how to get under the covers and sleep in the middle of the bed. this wouldn't be difficult if the bed was unmade, but she's learned how to get up under the three layers of sheets and blankets and sleep there. i was searching the house for her last night, and i found her when i went to get into bed. there she was as i peeled back the covers, sitting in her meatloaf pose, looking up at me like "what?" crazy cat.

  • i work with a girl who is pretty young, but mature at the same time. she's 25, but has had a ton of life experience. everything she says cracks me up. the other day she was telling me about how she's a champ at badminton. she said she even has a special racquet that she named The Executive. and on thursday, she spent the day at work asking me my opinions on different drinks she was making for her Office Party. she has one every thursday and she likes to showcase different drinks. this thursday she was trying to perfect The Dunder Mifflin Martini. she wanted to know if i thought different alcohol combos would work together. since i'm clueless when it comes to that, i just listened to her plan it all out. she totally makes the day go by A LOT faster. i'm going to miss her when this assignment is over.

  • speaking of, i have 25 more work days at this temp job. i'm hoping that the agency places me in a new one right away. hopefully one that will be permanent.

  • i can't stop thinking about Smokin' Aces. it was THAT good.

    Smokin' Aces

    Feb. 9th, 2007 | 09:09 pm
    location: my desk, bitches
    mood: happy happy

i met P after work tonight and we went to block e to see Smokin' Aces

    Smokin' Aces

seriously? i think this is one of the best - if not the best movie i've seen in, oh, a year. jeremy piven is excellent in it and i was surprised at alicia keys' performance. she was pretty good!

i loved the editing and the way that certain shots were constructed. the music fit perfectly and the cast of characters were unlike anything i've seen since Trainspotting. that was the main thing that kept running through my mind - it's about fucking time that this kind of movie is made again. it also made me wish i hadn't given up my screenwriting dreams. of course, anyone anywhere can write a screenplay, so i guess that's not totally a dream gone to waste.

so, yeah. if you haven't already seen Smokin' Aces, you really need to. go this weekend! i think it might have been even more enjoyable if there were people in the theater with us, but there was only one other couple and a weird dude that screamed stuff like "LOOK OUT BRO!" at the screen. ha.

    quickly...

    Feb. 7th, 2007 | 09:30 pm
    location: my desk, bitches

i really should be getting ready for bed, but i'm taping Top Designer right now. Phillip should be home any second and so i'm sure we'll watch it together.

he watched Running With Scissors this afternoon. he left it for me to watch this evening, but as usual, i didn't get around to it. i was too busy downloading books and tv shows to my new fun toy.

i listenend to Chuck Klosterman IV today at work. all 6 hours of it. it was pretty good. i need to go to the library and get some more audio books. the library's download center is seriously limited.

speaking of the library, i was extremely snarky and sarcastic in [info]ljtwincities tonight, but the OP didn't catch on. or maybe she did but chose to be chipper and polite in return. is THAT "minnesota nice"? ahh...kind of makes me miss the assholes bitching in [info]b0st0n. just a smidge.

tomorrow is Happy Hour Outing with my friend brandee. we've been meeting up on thursdays and going to a different bar each time for happy hour. this week is the rockbottom brewery. it was her turn to choose.

i have to go to target tomorrow and get some blank cds. i stuffed as many MP3s as i could onto a disc for brandee tonight. she's never heard both Franz Ferdinand albums in their entirety. of course, i think that's shameful and she should be beaten for it. i also included Hard-FI, Bloc Party, and Antics by Interpol, which she's never heard, either. sheesh.

i got a ride home from a new chick that started working with the rest of us temps today. it was so bizarre getting home at 4:55. i'm usually not home til at least 5:30. maybe this will turn into a regular thing. i'll gladly give her my bus money as payment. anything not to have to take three buses to and from work.

speaking of work, it's going OK. i'm pretty much bored to tears on a daily basis, due to the extreme monotony of it all. that's why the audiobooks are a lifesaver. since i'm not actually typing anything i can concentrate on the story being pumped into my ears while copying and pasting telephone numbers into a database. booooooooooorr-riiiiiiiing.

even though i'm bored to death, i DO NOT want this assignment to end early. sure, it would save me from waking up at 5:45 every morning, but i really need the money. we've got 5 weeks left after friday. that's really no time at all in the grand scope of a year, you know?

i still haven't been able to catch up on everyone's journals. if something super dooper has happened to you, please alert me. and then forgive me for being so lame.

    goodnight.
