I forgot to post these. They were illustrations for the Willamette Week spotlighting hideously disfigured villains because of the Phantom of the Opera being in town. My favorites were Doom and Two-face. The guy in the ball cap is supposed to be the bag man from GEEK LOVE.

| Life Drawing |
[Jul. 10th, 2008|08:47 am] |
Best stuff from life drawing at Periscope Studios last night. The model Erica is great at posing, a lot of time in ways that you wouldn't think were physically possible. I think part of it has to do with the fact that she's a cartoonist and her bones are possibly made of nerf.
Anyway I was pretty warmed up from 8+ hours of bg inking and I think I turned out some nice work.
This is my favorite, I actually borrowed time from the next pose to finish inking it:

| Willamette Week illustrations |
[May. 31st, 2008|04:11 pm] |
I typically do one or two illustrations a month for the Willamette Week lately and I realized I haven't really been posting them...
I work closely with the Art Director, Maggie Gardner, who always provides clear concepts and even some basic sketches to get me started. She's awesome.
Extreme workout article. The girl on the right was actually interacting with the headline bar and not floating.

| Catwoman |
[May. 31st, 2008|12:11 am] |

My buddy Andy says no one can pull off drawing Catwoman's current costume except the guy who designed it, Darwyn Cooke.
He's probably right. |

Giftsketch I did for Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue's baby. They're making a sketchbook called "Henry, No!" involving their son in perilous situations. being the nerd that I am, I thought of a baby with the most dangerous weapon in the (616) universe. Some of the finer penwork got toasted in the scan (sadface)

Also, the last time I checked the wiki for the Ultimate Nullifier they had a heading entitled The Ultimate Ulltimate Nullifier for the Ultimate universe which is pretty spectacular. Of course all i can think about now is The Penultimate Nullifier.

This was a rejected illo for a trade magazine. I think I went a little too over the top with it but I like it.

Also, my funwrecker website is still down and the host has been unreachable for the last week but I did manage to get my portfolio back online at www.dennisculver.com |

| Nerds |
[Jan. 2nd, 2008|11:20 am] |

Freelance work. Redesigning a company mascot. They wanted it to range from very nerdy to hipster nerdy. We ultimately went with something more in line with their established style but I was particularly fond of these two designs representing the two extremes.
