| [ | We be jammin' to... |
| | Slipknot - Psychosocial | ] | Love letters, deep thoughts, innermost feelings all scribed to dead trees... How strange we now dictate them through never living and impersonal means, electrons and wires replacing once living paper and natural ink.
Society grows yet somehow regresses at once, sending personal matters and things of great import through cold and unfeeling ether. Our closest circles of friends are often farthest away, the distance nothing to lightspeed energy.
Friends become family and family becomes no one as we sit in dark rooms, tapping away emotions, a Morse code with no rhythm, no patterns, no order. Random keystrokes string together words of great import as we blog, journal, and MySpace, completely missing their space, conversations, interaction...touch.
We become more familiar with typing one handed as words and images replace warm skin, whispered sighs, and the electric tingle of a loved one's touch. Hard plastic and flat panels have replaced flesh and curves; cables and wires supplant silky hair and agile fingers, our performances solo and impersonal.
How odd that by reaching out and touching someone through non-physical means, we gain the connections that keep us part of a social whole, all the while becoming more isolated and alone, the panacea of communication disconnecting us more each day, in every way, with everything and nothing to say...til we simply fade away, our modem-shaped hearts finally stopping in electronic arrest, the electric blood pumping through our wiry veins ceasing its flow, until like the lives we left behind, we simply, irrevocably go...

| [ | Mood? You want a MOOD? |
| | annoyed | ] | Wonderful...I survived Christmas only to fall to a cold/sinus infection this morning. So, in essence, I get sick on the days of my vacation I can relax, just in time to hopefully be better for going back to work. Fucking wonderful. In other news, a thought occurred to me, as to how hypocritical we are as a society; consider this scenario as a parent: Your child does [x] to another child or person; you correct said child and then insist they apologize. Child apologizes; grudgingly, usually. What, exactly did the child learn? Not to do [x]? Perhaps, if the punishment hurt enough or instilled enough fear of future retribution. Manners, by apologizing? Doubtful. So what, if anything does this teach? I'll tell you. It teaches them to lie with a smile. It teaches them that appearance matters over truth, or reality. It teaches conformism is valued over individuality. Worse, it teaches that parents buy into this just like everyone else, that a false face that fits in is better than an honest one that does not...and that parents can't be trusted. After all, if they teach you to do it, does this not also mean THEY must do it too? The only saving thing for us as parents is that most kids don't make the parental connection. I mean, why not just be honest with them? "Son, you can't hit that person. Why? It hurts them, which is considered wrong by society, causes them to not like you, and makes people look at you wrong; remember, the ones that stand out get targeted. You don't have to like it; just do it to fit in and realize that your life will be easier if you fit in publicly. You can have your own beliefs privately. Just remember, some people's opinions are also sometimes the law, and cops don't care what you think. Also, remember, you can't afford Johnny Cochran, even if he was alive." |

Neutral You scored 1 With the Force. |
You have managed to keep yourself in balance with nature. This is the true path to power. Keep youself committed to the common good, but never be afraid to fry someone with Force Lightning if you have to.
After the Galactic Cival War, the new Jedi became more neutral than their dogmatic forbearers. This is, no doubt, because the 'Butcher of Yavin' (Luke Skywalker) was their leader. While good at heart, Luke was corrupted by the Evil Rebellion into murdering Imperial Soldiers and ordering Ewoks to their deaths. When such an evil person tried to become a master of the good side, neutral was as far as he could get. |

Ok, except for the female part, some people at work said, "Yep, that's you." The ones that have seen Serenity just shuddered. Oh, has anyone seen it more than 5 times? It's in its 7th week here in Fairfax, and it's confirmed for an 8th week by the manager. I'll probably get in another viewing to make it at least 6. Of course, I'll be in LA this weekend, so it'll have to be when I come back, and before Thanksgiving; well, before Wednesday, really, cuz I leave for New York Wednesday afternoon....

| | J. S. Bach - Tocata and Fugue in D Minor | ] | *sighs* I love doing things. Different things. FUN things. Bad things. Things.
For instance: I love Halloween. Every year at Halloween I have a tradition; I pick my favorite macabre sound mp3 and play it.
Loudly.
VERY loudly.
Ok, picture this: The volume knob turns up. The volume slider on Media Player goes to maximum. The master volume control from the Systray goes to full. The subwoofer master volume goes up.
Now. Hit play, and grin like a maniac as Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor begins to caress your bone marrow, vibrate your fillings, and cause all of the furniture in your apartment to begin to blur.
Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE subsonics, buried skeletal remain shaking bass, and music you can feel at levels BELOW visceral? No?
Consider it mentioned.

See, I have this online store: http://www.cafepress.com/sithspit Ok, shameless plug done. Well, I'm a Louisiana native. I have some shirts for sale, most of them Hurricane Katrina oriented. I had this one idea/design that had a silhouette of a looter in a rifle scope's crosshairs, with the words "Save New Orleans" above it, and "Shoot a Looter!" below it.
They said it was offensive and promoted violence. ..... ..... WELL NO SHIT! That's the IDEA, dumb asses! The terms of service, however, gives them the right to pull stuff they believe to be offensive, at their sole discretion. But that's ok. Let them miss out on the profits. I found a local distributor who'd make them for me. HA! If this first run of shirts does well, I might do ALL of my stuff locally. God knows, while my personal cost would be more out of pocket to start with, I'd stand to MAKE more if things sell well. We'll see what happens.
Oh yeah...and go buy a shirt. My kids need stuff. |

| Ok, getting windy... |
[Aug. 29th, 2005|04:10 am] |
The wind here is getting higher; my step-dad's TV (using an antenna, no cable!) is being greatly affected as a result. Reception's getting worse. Rain is falling, heavily, and has been for a few hours.
And the eye is still a half hour or so off shore.
The good news for us is the track has finally settled in to the due north path they predicted, and the track is .4 east of the 90 degrees needed for a New Orleans direct hit. Of course, with a storm this size, instead of a freight train in wind and storm surge we're only going to get hit with a tractor trailer sized wind and storm surge.
Not MUCH better, but still; we'll take what we can get.
This is likely to be the last post of mine for a while; we could conceivably lose power at any time, and the generator will be for emergency use only (water for showers, cooking, etc)
Hope everyone else is ok where they are.

| [ | Mood? You want a MOOD? |
| | nervous | ] | Ok, things aren't currently as grim as they could be. My step-dad has xDSL and a PC, and we have power; of course, the eye is supposed to make landfall at 0700 in the morning, and things are going to go to hell rather quickly from there, for the next, oh, 6 hours or so after that, and electricity is likely to follow. If I get another chance to post before then, I shall. Jen, the Sithlings, and I, left our home and pets this afternoon; no place for them, couldn't bring them. The cats are outdoors, and next to my home being destroyed are my biggest concern. The dog, Satchel, is indoors, and my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and my wife's aunt are at our house. I know. Weird, huh? See, their house is south of Hwy 22, which means they are in a mandatory evacuation zone; our house is not. However, with my small children, I wasn't going to stay in a voluntary evacuation zone, so we left to go here, and they left to stay at our house. It's marginally safer than theirs, and they can watch our stuff at the same time. But see, the news is reporting that at roughly 1400 tomorrow afternoon, the storm is going to be weaker. That's good. However, the eye is going to be just about level with our house, albeit east of it. That's bad. The storm won't have weakened significantly; let's compare being run over by a semi as opposed to a freight train. That's ugly. It's still supposed to be a Category FOUR. And that's the worst.
Folks, I could conceivably not have a home to go to Wed morning. That's bad. It could be worse though; I could be one of those 100,000 people estimated to still be in New Orleans that couldn't or wouldn't get out. That would be even worse. I'll keep you posted. |

Hi. My name is Katrina. I'll be your "Bend you over for your Hurricane Reaming" server this weekend.
Folks, as things are looking, I will likely, if I'm LUCKY, be available only by cellphone after this weekend, IF the cell towers aren't down.
I'm located within a few miles of the I-12 and I-55 interchange. That's far enough inland to not worry overmuch about storm surge, though I do have two lakes nearby. No, my concern is strictly wind and rain, and this bitch Katrina is now a Category FOUR storm. And I quote from my quote of the National Hurricane Center:
"Category Four Hurricane - 131-155 mph Sustained winds; Storm surge 13-18 ft above normal. "
I got tired of hunting slow loading links from NOAA and Weather channel...I just integrated their info into one, non-public page for me and my friends to use for quick storm info.
Here's what NOAA has for the five day track: NHC 5-day Storm Track

Yay.
So, we should be safe...mostly. I'll try to post as soon as I can following the storm; the local authorities are saying, if we're lucky, we should only be out of power 3-5 days...could be weeks though.
Yay. |

19 years ago, I was playing tennis for my school team at a local park when my transportation there and back had their car broken into...their purse, containing various things, was stolen. Included in that purse was Charter Arms .38 snubnose.
This person got a phone call yesterday from the local police dept, stating that the weapon in question had been found in another parish almost 150 miles away! Since it was reported stolen, and so long ago, and since all documentation was correct, she has the option of having it destroyed by the cops or going to collect it. I think she's going to go and collect it...I can't wait to see what shape it's in after almost 20 years of being gone!
She's a bit freaked about it...she's like, "I can't help but wonder how many people it was used to hurt or kill over 20 years of being used by criminals". At least she's not blaming the gun. If she doesn't want it, I'm sure I'll be able to find a home for it...
In other news... I'm thinking about getting a piercing. Can't make up my mind, really, as to what kind and where (don't worry, they're all above the waist) I might want to do it. Chest, ears are most likely; men just look...well...ODD with navel piercings. Bleh. So, any thoughts? We've got:

| | Danny Kaye - I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts | ] | Someone asked, "How do you picture your funeral? Is it important for you to have people mourn your death?"
How do I picture it being, or wish it to be? It'll be a drab, sad affair, because NO ONE would actually follow my wishes. Damned fools.
IF I got my wishes followed, I'd be dressed in my current favorite T-shirt or Hawaiian shirt, baggy shorts, sunglasses, and my face fixed in a sardonic smirk. I'd have one of those flashing banner things over the casket scrolling my favorite puns, one after another.
Music would be playing...selected favorites. Green Day, "Time Of Your Life", FFH, "One of These Days", Cindy Morgan, "How Could I Ask For More", Carl Orff, "Carmina Burana", Rutter's "Requiem", Aimee Mann, "Jacob Marley's Chain" and "The Other End (of the Telescope)", Anthrax, "Antisocial", Berlin, "Take My Breath Away" (Yeah, I see the humor there too...), Blue Oyster Cult, "Don't Fear the Reaper" or "Burnin' For You" and "Fire of Unknown Origin" (only if I was cremated), Bob and Tom, "Man With a Hairy Ass", Evanescence, "Bring Me To Life", Boston, "Smokin'" (again, only if cremated), Danny Kaye, "I've Got A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts", Dobie Gray, "Drift Away", Dire Straits, "Walk of Life", Bobbie McFerrin, "Don't Worry, Be Happy", Dream Theatre, "Dance of Eternity", Eagles, "Get Over It", "Take It to the Limit", "Already Gone", Eddie Rabbit, "I Love a Rainy Night", Eric Johnson, "Cliffs of Dover", Faith Hill, "Amazing Grace", Frank Zappa, "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow-Nanook Rubs It", Guns 'N Roses, "Sweet Child o' Mine", Harry Belafonte, "Jump in De Line", Harry Nilson, "Lime and the Coconut", Jars of Clay, "Love Song for a Savior", Jim Croce, "Time in a Bottle", Journey, "Faithfully", Kansas, "Dust in the Wind", Lord of the Dance, "Cry of the Celts", Mariah Carey, "Vanishing", Mary Chapin Carpenter, "Down at the Twist and Shout", Mercy Me, "I Can Only Imagine (Original Release)", Michael English, "Midnight Cry", Ozzy Osbourne, "Mama I'm Coming Home" (for the pagans present...), Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon (Entirety)" and "Wish You Were Here (Entirety)", Ray Lynch, "No Blue Thing", Robin Trower, "Bridge of Sighs", Ron Kenoly, "Let Everything That Has Breath" and "Ancient of Days", Sarah McLachlan, "Angel", Scorpions, "When the Smoke is Going Down", Skid Row, "I Remember You", Stevie Ray Vaughn's version of, "Little Wing", Third Day, "Love Song", Triumph, "Little Boy Blues", "Midsummer's Daydream", "Time Canon/Time Goes By", and that's all I can think of AT THE MOMENT.
More to come later....this bears some thought. It will be atraditional, I assure you. I know the funeral is for the mourners, but I want it to remind them of ME, how I was, etc. Can ANYone that knows me honestly look at me in a coffin in a SUIT and think, "That's James"?? HELL NO!
So what if I'm dead? You want to honor me and remember me? Honor LIFE and ask yourself, WWJD?
LOL..>What Would James Do? |

Anyhow, You'll notice I'm not only updating more, but I'm commenting in your own LJs. Please don't die from the shock. |

| Death can creep on six tiny feet.... |
[Aug. 3rd, 2004|04:08 pm] |
| [ | Mood? You want a MOOD? |
| | amused | ] | It seems that my ambitious apprentice chose a very subtle and very nearly successful means of striking me down yesterday.
However, the local paramedics were up to the task of resuscitation and succeeded in keeping me alive.
Yesterday at about 15:30 my time, a rather large ant that was floating in my sister's swimming pool was prodded through the Force to latch onto my back and bite me. My middle Sithling saw said creature when I told her something was burning my back, and she struck it off.
Two minutes later I was rolling out of the pool onto my side, half conscious, couldn't breathe, nauseous, throat tightening, extremities swelling and tingling, and weak as fuck.
A minute later, after struggling to a chair and telling my thunderstruck mother that was watching me and my children swim to get me to an emergency room NOW, I passed out.
She claims I quit breathing three times before the paramedics arrived.
They pumped me full of oxygen and IV benadryl and I came around, sort of. My blood pressure was 90/50 and dropping.
Then, the final straw: My apprentice somehow arranged for a highly incompetent doctor to be working a swing shift at the ER and he diagnosed me with syncope...in short, I fainted.
FAINTED! Like I don't know anaphylactic shock when I EXPERIENCE it. Dumb fuck.
Anyhow, there's the story. I'm home today, tired, but once I made it past the histamine reaction that was assaulting me, I was mostly fine.
Nice try Apprentice...but you'll have to do better next time. |

| Thunderstorms...LOVE EM. |
[Jul. 7th, 2004|02:59 pm] |
| [ | Mood? You want a MOOD? |
| | contemplative | ] | You know, the only thing I love more than a good thunderstorm is a a non-lethal but strong tropical storm. I love the wind, I love the downpouring rain, the lightning, the THUNDER... There's just an electric (pun intended) sensation in the air during one. I love being outside in one, watching lightning slash across the leaden sky, the clouds, heavy with water, swirling in a maelstrom of motion, a riot of vapor and liquid.
I love the thrumming sound of torrential rain tattoing a rhythm on the rooftops, the wind whistling and moaning, gasping and sighing, playing the trees and surrounding environs like a frantic lover.
Thunderstorms are freakin' SEXUAL, people! |

| L-Users |
[Jul. 6th, 2004|03:16 pm] |
| [ | Mood? You want a MOOD? |
| | pissed off | ] | I. Hate. Users. I spent nearly an entire day cleaning a laptop PC of spyware, malware, and viruses, then upgraded the OS from WinMe to Win2K. I then updated all of the Windows files from the Microsoft Windows Update page. Rebooted the machine, fooled with it a bit, and pronounced it done.
Brought it back to the user on Friday afternoon, right?
Today, Tuesday, the day after the long Fourth of July weekend, I get a call from my boss saying I needed to pick up the machine again; it had an .ini error. Ok, wonder what the user did, go to pick it up and....
....THEY FUCKED IT UP SO BAD IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF RE-INSTALLING THE OS!!!
Dear GOD, what idiots! What happened to a perfectly functioning machine? What did they DO?? Supposedly they simply booted it, saw the error, and put the Windows disk in.
There's NO WAY...it's simply too improbable. Sadly, the law says we can't appropriate their machine from them because they're too stupid to use it. |

| *Yawn...* |
[Jun. 29th, 2004|01:52 pm] |
I really should update more.
Last night I was just a tad miffed. I took down the graphic and text from my home page and put up a letter. This letter basically calls for more decisive action from our government, action that might even get us hated by the rest of the world, but would be intended to protect our citizens and interests. Oh, wait, they ALREADY hate us. Silly me. So why not? Oh, I know the entire international relations thing is very complicated with a lot of different considerations.
But I don't care.
I'm sick of seeing innocent people held hostage, maimed, killed, and otherwise harmed. The animals ignore all rules of accepted international decency, and yet we are bound by those same rules.
I'm all fresh out of mercy. Kill 'em. Send in the SEALs or Delta or some other black ops group and kill them. Deal with them in the same method of negotiation they're used to dealing with...power and fear.
And if the rest of the world doesn't like it, they can go screw themselves. We need to take care of American citizens, and American interests before we worry about what concession we're going to give up to the international community at large. |

| | SkySalt - Paper Angels | ] | Here I sit, dreaming as I type, contemplating the joys and pleasures of life, and the added joy as I consider how much I'd enjoy seeing SkySalt and Evanescence share a stage. Dear God, that would be sweet! Xenia and Amy are so opposite and yet so alike. Both immensely talented, both drop dead gorgeous (fire and ice...that's those two!), both female bandleaders in a male dominated world. Neither belongs at Lilith Fair, but they're not sold out to the industry either. Now, go away...leave me to my daydreams of a duet between them...*purrrrrssss*...... |

Congratulations! You have an understanding of the goth culture!
A True Goth Quiz (now with pics) brought to you by Quizilla
This is truly shocking to some, as I don't look at all Goth. But I do pay attention to subcultures and view them with an open and honest eye. Therefore, I knew how to answer. I think it's a bit of a compliment to be able to answer and be rated as a person with true understanding of a subculture, while at the same time being apart from it. Spiffy. |

| Blue Oyster Cult |
[Oct. 6th, 2003|04:35 pm] |
| [ | We be jammin' to... |
| | - Blue Oyster Cult - Dominance and Submission | ] | I got a treat yesterday. A major treat. I've enjoyed listening to Blue Oyster Cult since I was 15 years old. I'm going to be 34 this month. I was too young to enjoy BOC in their heyday, and as their popularity declined, I wasn't able to catch the one show that they did at Jimmy's in New Orleans. What made it more maddening is that some friends of mine DID get to go and see them at Jimmy's. Yesterday, it was all made well. There's a suburb of New Orleans called Gretna. Every year they have their Gretna Heritage Festival, and it's a big affair. This year they had three full stages set up for music, not to mention all of the food and craft booths. Admission was 3 dollars. THREE DOLLARS. And, on one of the stages, appearing for the first time in our area in nearly two decades, was Blue Oyster Cult. I got to see one of my all time favorite bands, up close, live, for THREE FREAKIN' DOLLARS! They played an incredible set: They opened with Buck's Boogie, moved into Agents of Fortune, then a song called Dancing on Stilts off of their new album. They played Burning For You, ...and Then Came the Last Days of May, Godzilla, Cities on Flame, Dominance and Submission, Don't Fear the Reaper, and a couple others I didn't even recognize, but my friend Dave (Horus?) did. They were awesome. Beyond awesome. Amazing. I was awed. Then Foghat followed them up. Damn, for a bunch of guys in their 40s and 50s, they all kicked major ass! FOR THREE DOLLARS!!! My ears are STILL ringing, and it was worth every damn second! |

| | - Evanescence - Everybody's Fool (Live_@_Rock_am_Ring_07-06-03) | ] | Well. JennSong is now in Louisiana. She's in school at a local university (on a Navy scholarship, no less!) and we finally got the opportunity to meet up at, of all places, here at Six Flags--it seems Tulane gave "X" number of students free passes. Well, she showed up, hug given and received. Gave her the tour and the info on what to see and what to avoid (food wise). She had a good day, then came back to visit and just chat a while before leaving with her fellow co-eds. No sooner did she leave, I was BESET by guys. Two from admissions ("Who was that hottie?? PLEASE give me her phone number!" and "Dude, she was a goddess...who was she??"). Two from Security ("Please tell me she's legal!" and "You got a hug? Where? Let me rub where she touched you...."), and lastly Entertainment ("She's only 18?? Damn...coulda fooled me." and "Hey, you're married and I'm single...give me her number!")
Now, all the horny hard legs at work aside (one is old enough to be her dad), I'd say she made an impression.
My impression?
Vibrant. Her voice sound nothing like I expected it to sound looking at her--she's not a tall woman. I expected something a little hesitant in her carriage and demeanor--after all, she's just moved across the entire country to go to school at such a young age. But no. She exuded confidence with a vibrant personality that said "I belong here and I know what I'm doing, who I am, and where I'm going." I made sure to shake hands at least once to gauge her, and I was pleased to note her grip was firm and strong, warm and dry.
Welcome to Louisiana, JennSong. You'll go far. |

I know, I know, reading a journal to find out how your wife is doing...how e-centric can you get, right? Well, I work so much and come home so late it's often the only way I can get what's in her head out in the open...believe me, you don't want what's in her subconscious mind to run out! So, I read her journal...and I realize that due to the work load, kid stresses, time issues, etc, ETC...the most important person in my life is hurting and sad...and what should be a most important and special day...isn't.
