is sarah palin qualified? this is one of the rare instances when i post the same thing to both blogs. right now it's running 50-50. (okay, okay, 49-49.) which is appalling. she's qualified to be a cheerleader. she's qualified to host pta suppers. commander-in-chief of the u.s.? sweet baby cheeses. pbs is running the poll. it will get media attention. go vote, wouldja? we can't have pbs saying their viewers think palin is qualified. sometimes i wish i were canadian. honestly. | | Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 | | 3:00 pm |
another 3 seconds off my 15 minutes john glionna of the l.a. times interviewed me briefly for his story on the berkeley bowl. i'm reffed on page 2. naturally, i was misquoted. it's the goddess "oblivia," not "oblivion." he really wanted a story about bad behavior there, and he pissed glenn yasuda off so much that he's now banned from the bowl. for life. poor bastard. | | Monday, September 1st, 2008 | | 10:28 pm |

schmap on the iphone and here we have my little shot of the chapel ceiling at the cluny museum, via schmap, on the iphone. i must be up to 27 minutes of fame by now. | | Monday, August 25th, 2008 | | 10:39 am |
hey look! les is in jon carroll's column! jon carroll had a recent column about bicyclists. les hutchins wrote a letter about it, which carroll reproduced (in full?). fleeting fragments of fame. speaking of which, couple weeks ago i got interviewed in the berkeley bowl by john glionna, reporter for the l.a. times. he wanted to talk about conflict and frustration in that wonderful place. i had an opinion. (of course he talked to multiple random shoppers.) the story's not up yet. i keep checking: fortunately, he has an unusual name. or, i suppose, i could just relax and let google alerts tell me. | | Friday, July 4th, 2008 | | 4:19 pm |

schmapplet meant to post this months ago. cola has one of her photographs in schmapp, and now, so do i. it's of the ceiling of the chapel in the cluny museum. huh. looks like the "schmapplet" they offered me is incompatible with livejournal. figures. i'll go try it on the googleblog. you can see it here. hover your cursor over the cluny museum in the middle column. the relevant images cycle through the picture window on the right. | | Saturday, March 15th, 2008 | | 2:02 pm |
what a swell idea! (via boing boing) so terry pratchett's donated a half a million pounds to alzheimer's research. one of his many, many fans has suggested that we get together and match it. donate here. tell 'em it's for terry. it's the next place i'm going. | | Friday, March 7th, 2008 | | 11:59 am |

yeah, lj's where i put my quiz stuff (dammit, the daemon movie won't load.) i bet i did one of these last year. probably not the same one. says my daemon's a tiger named nithreus. says "modest, responsible, a leader, soft spoken and competitive." you can comment on whether you agree with this assessment at the golden compass movie site. or here. or not. wevs. | | Monday, December 17th, 2007 | | 11:30 am |
what d&d character am i? I Am A: Neutral Good Human Bard/Rogue (4th/4th Level) Ability Scores:Strength-12 Dexterity-13 Constitution-13 Intelligence-16 Wisdom-16 Charisma-17 Alignment:Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable. Race:Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like. Primary Class:Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched. A high Charisma score allows a bard to cast high-level spells. Secondary Class:Rogues have little in common with each other. While some - maybe even the majority - are stealthy thieves, many serve as scouts, spies, investigators, diplomats, and simple thugs. Rogues are versatile, adaptable, and skilled at getting what others don't want them to get. While not equal to a fighter in combat, a rogue knows how to hit where it hurts, and a sneak attack can dish out a lot of damage. Rogues also seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Experienced rogues develop nearly magical powers and skills as they master the arts of stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. In addition, while not capable of casting spells on their own, a rogue can sometimes 'fake it' well enough to cast spells from scrolls, activate wands, and use just about any other magic item. zomfg: clst's bein dportd (non-exella readers: please ignore.)
because i have an extremely memorable phone number, she was able to call me from detention. (no cell phone, no tape recorder ... no pen.) on account of her paperwork being not up to date, they'll be putting her on a plane back to nyc. so we'll get to see her in the bay area rather sooner than we thought we would.

free rice well, that's a half hour of my life i'll never get back. but all for a good cause. free rice is an endless vocabulary quiz. for every word you define correctly, they donate 10 grains of rice to, you know, the hungry. i got to 2000 grains and decided that was enough for one day. go try it. let me know how long it took you to stop. the bbc says so far they've collected enough to feed 50,000 people for one day. geeks rule. | | Thursday, October 11th, 2007 | | 7:18 pm |

they're making a movie of the golden compass! http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/and livejournal won't let me embed the video. it says my daemon is named elleron, and he is a tiger. they picked a tiger for me because they perceive me to be "modest, shy, a leader, competitive and responsible." are they smoking the purple crack, do you think? you can vote on it: http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/?9828i've found by agreeing or disagreeing, i can make them turn it into a rabbit. i definitely like the tiger better. | | Tuesday, April 10th, 2007 | | 8:50 pm |
