To top it all off My laptop hard drive died today. It's in the shop. We've got backup laptops, though, so I should be OK for connectivity. |

Meh It's just not been a very good week, with a loss of a large portion of our income, both mine and rosefox's. We'll be OK for a while, but if anyone in NYC knows of someone hiring for a client service type position, I'd appreciate knowing about it. rosefox is also looking for freelance writing/editing gigs. I don't really know what else to do at this point. Look for work for a while, with a start date of November 9 or so. I guess. My tickets to Singapore are non refundable, and I'm not going to be spending any more there than I would here. |

Depression or foresight Back when I was about to leave California, I was heavily depressed. And at times, I'd just fall into a funk where I'd look at the world, and none of it would make sense. I had a particular recurring vision that the basis for our financial system was smoke and mirrors - a con game of passing the buck to find a bigger sucker to take a bad bet made pretty.
I find now that I was mostly right. There was a vast system of lies and chicanery that had billions and trillions of dollars invested into it as if it was real, but we're now finding out that a $43 trillion dollar market exists in something called "default credit swaps".
Our global banking system might be just one giant pyramid scheme. Which is pretty much what I thought back in 2004, before I left CA.
The odd thing is, having been proven at least partially right, I don't feel much worse. I've been laid off from my job, but that's not as bad as my experience in CA was. Back then, I was depressed, had suicidal thoughts, bad health, and regular panic attacks. Now, I'm feeling OK. Hurt by the job issue, but not too badly. I'll feel better eventually. Somehow I'll make it through this. I'm confident. |
