| Oct. 13th, 2008 02:36 pm bring 'em out, bring 'em out... my irrational love for T.I. is growing by leaps and bounds. at this rate, i'm going to be weeping in front of the fed pen when he starts doing his hard time next march.

so, what's up? how are things? i'm coming out of a major, major funk. i've only just realized that it might have been due to the mercury retrograde nonsense. whew, thank dog that's winding down.
speaking of dog, gertie's back in da howse. she's been at my parents while i went on my rocktober show bender (only a few more left!). as much as i enjoyed coming & going whenever i pleased and not fretting about letting her out to pee, i missed her like she was my kid or something. no matter what i say, there's nothing quite like having gertie slowly push me off the bed while i'm sleeping.

| Oct. 6th, 2008 02:34 am sure, the fey-as-palin skits are hilarious, but this?
this made me weep tears of joy for ten minutes. 4 comments - Leave a comment

| Oct. 1st, 2008 12:53 pm i sat down at my desk today and this song - no, not just this song, this version of the song - popped into my head. what did we do before YouTube?
last night i saw jenny lewis. she was really good - i was kind of surprised. also, her boobs were bigger than i expected. i haven't heard her new cd yet(i'll probably soulseek it tonight), but the newer songs(to me) in the set were excellent. here's an oldie:
jon stewart was hopping mad last night and it was hilarious. the whole thing is funny, but the last 80 seconds heartbreakingly so:
i'll deal with austin later. 4 comments - Leave a comment

| Sep. 27th, 2008 10:02 am Celebrity Death Watch 2008 while i'm on the road... i'm in austin for the austin city limits music festival and we're watching the news and i just found out that Paul Newman died. i'm too lazy to find a picture or article right now, but i wanted to let you know that i'm still on the celebrity death beat even while on a vacation. | Sep. 23rd, 2008 03:44 pm omigod, gurl - that bag is amazing. i've watched the first two SNL episodes of this season (probably the most i've seen in recent years without justin timberlake hosting). there's a new "featured player" named bobby moynihan. so far the two skits he's been featured in have been my two favorites (excluding tina fey's sarah palin).
here's the one from the second episode:
...and here's the one from the first episode. it starts at the 2:20 mark, but the skit before it is pretty funny too:

| Sep. 21st, 2008 09:23 am wait, are we still overcoming? look, i would love for Obama to win.
my boy gnosis traveled to ireland recently. the only thing the locals wanted to talk about was the american election. they would love for Obama to win, too. they just think he won't because americans are too racist to vote in a black man.
gnosis seemed to be extremely surprised when farzad & i quickly agreed with the irish. "what?" he said. "c'mon, who thinks that way anymore?"
my old roomie is with gnosis. in a 30 minute heated discussion, he said that if Obama loses it's because voters don't trust his experience level.
gnosis and old roomie are white guys. farzad's iranian. i'm black.
i tried to explain to them that racism is so ingrained in the american psyche that it will be a tough thing for people to put aside in the voting booth, no matter what they've told pollsters.
just saying.
sigh.

| Sep. 19th, 2008 11:33 am there's a wii fit in my house and it is not my friend.

you enter your birthday and stand on the balance board and it assesses your BMI (what's that again? body mass index or some such nonsense?), your weight, and wii fit age. it then adjusts your avatar (or "mii", heh) based on the results.
let's just say after my "mii" clutched her chest and keeled over, i stepped off of the balance board, ate another EL Fudge cookie, and wept.
fuck, i'm out of shape.
i'm a beast with the step up & the hula hoop. i pwned everyone with the hula hoop. but yoga? not so much. and my balance is all out of wack.
truthfully, it's fun and all, but i'm really just waiting for animal crossing. that is the best game ever.
ps - I'm trying mario kart tomorrow. i think it might give me motion sickness, though. 5 comments - Leave a comment

| Sep. 17th, 2008 12:34 pm trying to cheer up. not sure it's working. it's a beautifully cool & overcast day. cloudy like my heart. so i tried to think of videos that might make me happy and this is what i came up with:
happyness - ur dewing it rong. how melancholy is that song? jeez.
but it reminded me of my favorite lenny kravitz album. here's a video.
i never even listened to the rest of vanessa's stuff. i figured once she stopped screwing lenny, her records probably stunk. plus, she talked funny. what, was she some sort of foreigner?
platform heels AND a choker? sigh. remember 1992? 5 comments - Leave a comment

| Sep. 14th, 2008 02:48 am Celebrity Death Watch 2008: Surely You Jest. Infinitely. David Foster Wallace hanged himself.

i am BUMMED BUMMED BUMMED. he was one of my favorite authors. please read a supposedly fun thing i'll never do again.
god. i am really upset. i discovered him & david sedaris at the same time and their books changed my brain. i saw the future of my writing style. i used to call them "the davids".
dammit. Current Mood: sad

| Sep. 11th, 2008 03:50 pm lost in space to celebrate the new recordings by both calexico AND giant sand (and the fact that neither band is coming to atlanta on their tours - POOR!), here's a clip from back in the day when howie gelb still got along with joey burns & john convertino. it's their old side project with lisa germano, OP8.
in other news, how's your rocktober schedules going? thisaintnodisco, have you broken out the spreadsheet yet? 3 comments - Leave a comment

| Sep. 8th, 2008 03:11 pm VMAzzzzzzzz... wait, did i use that title last year? cuz i REALLY mean it this year.
the VMAs were so boring, i almost didn't write about it. the best parts were T.I. and Kanye. that's right, people, i like Kanye. i know his ego is ridonkulous, but his low self-esteem levels are off the charts too, and speaking as somebody who's thinks she sucks and thinks she's the greatest (usually at the same time), i can dig it. plus, gold digger.
anyhoo, russell brand wasn't great, but he wasn't the worst host ever - remember jack black about 2 years ago? he left everyone drowning in flop sweat.
the set up of the awards looked so chintzy. demi moore (?) could barely make it down the spinning stairs and then didn't have a mic once she got to the stage. the seats looked like bleachers. it was like community theater.
i'm glad britney won her awards and all, but if it were me, i'm not sure i'd be so quick to embrace MTV after last year. it just made her wins feel...forced. like the whole awards show was fixed. i mean, duh, i know, but so blatantly? jeez.
i'm getting worked up. T.I., can you help me out?

ah. thanks, boo. 2 comments - Leave a comment

| Sep. 5th, 2008 12:41 pm my new life's goal is to meet jay smooth. and by "meet", i mean "kidnap*". my love is growing to justin timberlake-like proportions.
* - the term "kidnap" includes tying him up in my house and forcing him to make vlogs for me. Leave a comment

| Sep. 3rd, 2008 11:11 am grrrr. SO...i watched the first hour of the return of 90210 last night. sigh.

yesterday at work, luca and i were discussing the show. i said that this version of 90210 is totally different. "there's a black guy," i said. "that means no very special episodes about the black family moving in and lowering the property values."
then i checked myself, because i didn't remember seeing any black parents in the promos. "ha," i laughed. "i bet the black kid is, like, a foster child or some shit."
well, guess who's adopted?
seriously?!? the black kid HAS to be adopted by a white family in order to move to beverly hills? i can't wait to see his back story - i'm sure there's crack sprinkled all over it.
me on twitter:...is america scared of black parents?
sourbunny on twitter: not america, just beverly hills....annnd the black kid gets in a fight within 20 minutes.
we have got to get more minority screenwriters. i can't believe that 30 years after diff'rent strokes, we still have rich white families adopting po' black children. it's ridiculous. 4 comments - Leave a comment

| Aug. 29th, 2008 12:52 am i remember seeing this adult swim bump and being moved by the music immediately:
turns out it's called "massage situation" by flying lotus. i'm sure i'm behind the times on this, but wow.
sometimes i wonder if i even like music anymore. nothing seems to strike my fancy or it takes some time to really get into it and i'm just too lazy...
...then i see a 10 second commercial and the music is so beautiful that the hair stands up on my arms.
crazy. Leave a comment | |
