i'm falling asleep and i just saw a gigantic moth-like insect with glowing eyes on my windowsill that sounded sort of like it was calling my dog's name in a creepy, robotic, insect rasp. which of course, led me to think about the adventures the two of them would have together, and the unbreakable bond they would build after getting over their bichon/moth predjudices and romping down stream while an old southern man narrates everything they do. but i keep forgetting to mention these things here:
-this is a cover i did of a neil young song that i posted a couple of weeks ago -on my new blog. i'm 'cooperatively' posting on it with ultrakurtzwelle and we've been putting up a bunch of comics and drawing and songs. we're also using it to post updates for our new-ish, -weekly-ish, webcomic, harmonium.

i drew that cover for the a football fields ep which you can download -here or on cllct.com which is my favorite website right now (just below the cosby show official fan fiction site) because it's good, free music. my profile on it is -here
and as far as un-free goes, i'm going to be selling some art to pay for my weekly dinner soon, but i believe you can buy slightly expensive drawings of mine from the grasshut website here - http://grasshutcorp.com/blog/?page_id=3&brand=11

i'm sure somewhere in my brain, there is a witty and informative blog post just waiting to be discovered but it's 530, i'm weirdly still angry at my cable modem for not working for the past 4 hours, i have a headache and i'm tired of not being invited to join the x men. or even fucking x-factor.
here's a video ultrakurtzwelle and i made a couple of days ago.

water tall cat. from godownmatthew on Vimeo.

i'm having trouble finding music to listen to recently, which is probably good as anything that's really awesome that i've heard in the past couple of months sort of makes me jealous. safesimplelife's recent ep, made me the most jealous. it's here. i'm glad i don't have a cd copy because i would probably kiss it a lot and then catch a case of vanishing audio format herpes.

i'm working on a bunch of physical comics (comics about exercise or just comics on paper) which i'm hoping to print soon, and other stuff. i still make things, though i am still not an x man.

here's a couple of new songs i made recently: our human disguise disco dancing and here's a video for another new song:
while i miss the sweet and tender, cybernetic touch of livejournal, i'm likely just posting on here for procrastinatory purposes. on monday night i had essentially nothing planned for this week besides leisurely (and emotionally) recording the new medeor's mountain ep. i was doing the things i normally do in my spare time, thinking far too much about the hulk movie, getting mad at everything anyone says on the internet, attempting to track down my biological father (and hoping he really is the iron sheik like my mom says sometimes), and by tuesday morning i had 1,000 things that needed to get done.

by 1,000 things, i of course, mean maybe 10 things, but that's a lot for me. as i get older and more unemployed any sort of task or objective gets harder and harder for me to even think about doing. i can handle maybe 3 things every two days. especially if one of these things is 'don't shave.' any more than that and my stress level starts increasing dramatically. as does the intense procrastination. which is why i'm posting on livejournal.

and:
- if you're in or need a weird excuse to go to portland on july 4th, i'm in a group show with 4 zillion other artists at the seemingly awesome grass hut gallery. my drawings are small so they should be relatively easy to steal.
- i really like tinyfolk's new album.
- i was at the mocca convention a few weeks ago, but didn't run into too many people i know. mostly because i ran screaming, through both floors in about 10 minutes, and then went and watched the seminars for the rest of the time.
- happy 4th of july. i'll be celebrating the holiday as i celebrate most holidays, imagining exactly when and on what rooftop kraigmarshall and his girlfriend are having sex.

i've kept meaning to post on here for the past week and actually thought i did yesterday. i was sort of confused and disappointed as to why no one at all commented. i was also sort of confused and disappointed as to why i couldn't fly and have the power of odin at my command, until i realized that i only post on lj and am thor in my dreams recently.
i've recorded 300,000 new songs in the past 2 days. partially thanks to the new guitar i got as a fucking amazing birthday present. and partially thanks to the inspiration i've felt after receiving a package from my deceased great-grandfather who was an electronic musician in germany in the early 20th century. the package has been lost in the ups system for years, but i finally got it and it contains a music box that runs on human tears and plays whatever the german version of rockabilly is. i feel his cold, ghostly pompadour brushing against my soul each time i cry into the tin box. one of these things is true.
here's two of the new songs. i'm from the future, man pop songs are all lies

i realized the other day that i've been doing this caveman comic for a year. that's only 11 more months than i intended to spend on it. i am almost half way through. or at least will be by 2010. here's part 5. the entire thing from the beginning is here.

here's a song i made today specifically for people under 25. dancing all summer long please enjoy it before your intense, chronic, back pain and unrelenting bitterness keep you from enjoying anything at all. i'm partially kidding. aleks sang on this too, though i pointlessly masked her voice a little with my faux-pete-lady voice.

this is the first full song i recorded in a while as i've had either tremendous writer's block, depression and/or severe and undetected, satellite radiation brain poisoning recently. not only have i been unable to write music or lovejournal posts or comments; i can barely hold a conversation. i have been, however, more than able to download every demo available on the playstation and lay unmoving on the floor for hours, so things haven't been completely unbearable.

i had this idea for a contest/art collab thing, where people would send me short videos of them dancing to the above linked song and i would dance video battle them back, but i'm lazy, not a radio dj and not miranda july. however, if you would like to do this post in the comments or email me godownmatthew at gmail.

flickr lets you upload short videos now. what at first seemed pointless has now given me possibly one of two of my reasons to live. (though i don't understand the whole lj embedding process).

here's a couple of new(ish) songs.
untitled song i hate sunday
i wasn't going to post any music for a while as i'm now trying only to make songs for medeor's mountain and the band has a multi part song creating process involving demos, string theory, emotions and healing crystals, but i figured my monthly lj post should have something vaguely interesting.

i haven't been on livejournal, again, too much, mostly due to the fact that it's no longer in my budget to pay the guy i had writing my entries and comments for the past 9 months. i am, however, attempting to slowly massage the internet with my presence by writing every once in a while here and sort of keeping my diary comic going. kind of.

i think i haven't been around too much because i've sort of ran out of things to say on the internet. i keep thinking things like 'maybe i'll take pictures of my (almost) new house and post them' or 'maybe i'll update my myspace songs for the first time in a year' or 'maybe i'll tell people on lj they're cool' but i then realize no one cares. i will, however bullet point a few things i did in the 10 minute interval between writing this paragraph and the last.
- read an obituary for arthur c. clarke. i've read a few of his books. 2001 is one of the best movies ever. i saw an interview with him where he essentially claimed he stole all his ideas, and another interview (on the 2010 disc, i think) where he essentially claimed that he invented email, and/or the fax machine. there's probably some truth in both.
- got angry about american politics.
- used some sort of sacred clumsy kung fu to knock everything off of my desk for no reason. whenever i'm trying to be quiet i end up making an incredible amount of noise at random. i'm sure this is a larger metaphor for the problems in my life. sort of like those dreams where you can't scream or the dreams where e.t. is making out with your mother.
- replied to an email that asked me what i've been up to with 'the world wide web and i are expecting a baby. there is a possibility we will name it after you. see you in the years when pants are no longer needed, and most importantly, congratulations."
- tried to stop being angry about politics.
- made up a song about darkseid that, as usual, quickly became a song about a need for cupcakes.
if i don't start updating more often, i at least promise something better when i update again at the end of april.

8 things with sub-topics.
personal information.
1. i am still alive. though mostly cybernetic.
2. i now live in new jersey again. it hasn't changed too much since i last lived here. people still give dirty looks and high fives with equal abandon.
3. my new house is incredibly nice. slightly due to the fact that it's on a quiet, dead end street surrounded by woods, it's a 20 minute bus ride to the city, there are elves that teach amazing elven dance moves, and my good friends are nearby. but mostly due to the fact that no one's threatened to kill me yet in my neighborhood and the crazy quotient in the house is down about 2 million percent from my last place.

selfish recommendations.
4. if you love america and/or comic books and/or stanleylieber you should go here, and order a copy of his excellent cowboy actor comic.
5. if you love me and/or photography and/or naoki matsuyama, arnaud meuleman and/or gilles weinzapflen you should fly and/or swim and/or walk out your front door to tokyo, japan and check out the photo exhibition akabe put up in his new gallery. or if you only sort of like any of those people/things/me you can just read about it here or here.
6. if you like writing and/or reading you can go to safesimplelife's new community blog and do one or both.

apologies.
7. i am still getting used to being back on the internet all the time. i am also still getting used to not living in the world of dune and worshiping the worms of god after reading the sequels for the past week. both have stopped me from replying to all of my email in a timely fashion. sorry.
8. i am posting the next part of my caveman comic, prehistory below. if you want to catch up with it, or don't know what i'm talking about you can read the entire thing so far (including the new part) here. there's an explanation for why it was so long in between installments, but mostly it has to do with self esteem and childhood scars and my father not loving me. it's slightly complicated, but as always, sorry for not being good enough dad.

here's the promised, new and clumsily named go down, matthew album oh, oh, oh, sorcerer.

zip file of entire album.
1. my own thoughts. 2. the apocalypse is happening. 3. cliches. 4. past lives. 5. modern literature won't save you. 6. husband no. 3. 7. maker of universes. 8. sacred wine. 9. oh oh oh time traveler. 10. have another. 11. human everday. 12. too lazy to shave.
cover by ultrakurtzwelle http://senvald.com/
i realize i just posted an e.p. last week and i've posted all of these songs before (but some of them are slightly remixed and all of them are now in grand context). because of that and since like most things i've been doing recently, i fear the inferiority of this slightly, i thought i'd post a brief, vague commentary on each song below. i'll put it behind a cut partly to allow you to avoid the self importance that might seep through but mostly because after reading comic book message boards for the past 3 hours i know how much people hate spoilers. (it's also long, rambling and generally uninformative).

[Jan. 17th, 2008|05:09 am] |

before cheapsurrealist took time out from making sexy remixes of soviet culture and reminded me i hadn't updated this in 10 years, i had intended to post. anything i would've written in the past month though would've been complaining about people or whining or discussing my future plans to eventually invent a machine that replaces peoples auras with a dolphin's squeal or talking about the rollercoaster world of staring at apartment listings; and without even elaborating, making that list makes me kind of depressed. my new years resolution (though i just made it up now) is to update my journal more. this might conflict with my other resolution, no more being nice to crazy people, but i'll see what happens.

safesimplelife, ultrakurtzwelle, velvety_lungs, and i wrote and recorded an e.p. last weekend with a minimal amount of tears and suicide attempts.
you can download the zip file here.
these are the individual tracks: 1 2 3 4 5 6

when you're done listening and then kindly wiping those files from your computer, dzima has posted a very good covers album that will make you very briefly reconsider britpop from the 90s. stanleylieber put up two of his best eps recently. and fallentoad put an entire album on his band's myspace, which i'm too tired and lazy to look up the link to now but he posts about comic books, religion and science almost every day so i don't know why you wouldn't want to read his entire journal.
my next post will probably just be look at my friends page.

- i'm moving soon so i'll be online sort of on and off. mostly because i might not have internet right away, but also because it's hard to type myspace comments when you're having a nervous breakdown.
- happy new year.
- the new go down, matthew album is done besides the cover, so i'll post it soon-ish.
