I met up with the internet last night at Metro to see Empires play. This was the first venue I saw them perform at ever, back in March when Ryan fell off his drums. Ha.

They played a great set, the internet cheered them on, and some of Sean's friends moshed behind us and shouted about how they wanted to suck his cock. At least, I'm pretty sure they were his friends. It would be kind of hilarious if they weren't.

Nick Scimeca kept looking at me again. Man. I do not even know.

I managed to take a few pictures before my battery died:

the lolarity, and also Max being awesome )

And I'm meeting up with the internet tomorrow to see them play House of Blues. \o/

crime fighters never sleep
...or possibly a day planner.

My interview this morning went well. They want me back later this week. Interview with recruiter went well. He wants to schedule me for more interviews this week. Have interviews on Thursday, Friday, and Monday, and I expect that I'll be scheduling more. Sweet baby Jesus.

Um. This is good news, I know, but I might be flipping out like a mammal trying to keep times, dates, names, companies, and job descriptions straight. [info]tzikeh was laughing at me earlier because I was talking to a recruiter on my cell while running for the ringing home phone, and... *jazz hands*

In between interviews, I wandered into the DePaul Center Barnes & Noble to use a gift card. I grabbed a stack of Tactics manga and took a step back from the shelf to check volume numbers and prices. A boy of vaguely college age stared at me, and said, "Ummmmm. I'm sitting in that chair."

Dear Socially Maladjusted Little Shit,

Please note that while I was standing near the chair, I was not approaching the chair, looking at the chair, or making the slightest attempt to sit in the chair. Please don't be an asshole.

Thank you,
shrift

Also, EMPIRES! I'll be at both Empires concerts this weekend! Who's going?

wonder where the wonder falls
It seems odd that I am more productive when I am unemployed, but it appears to be the case. Since Monday, I have:

  • Updated my Monster resume

  • Applied for at least 16 jobs

  • Bookmarked another 17 to apply for

  • Filed for unemployment

  • Scheduled an interview for next week

  • Talked with a recruiter and scheduled another chat with him on Monday

  • Cleaned the bathroom

  • Done laundry and the dishes

  • Gone to the Taste of Chicago with [info]celli

  • Been clumsy enough to develop colorful bruising. My left arm? Sore.

  • Walked several miles in the sunshine

  • Gone to the grocery store

  • Updated one of my websites

  • Caught up on Doctor Who \o/ OMG IS IT SATURDAY YET?

And tonight, I'm going to see WALL-E with [info]celli and [info]pipsqueaky.

And maybe this weekend, I'll finish revising the huge SGA AU I wrote for Sweet Charity so I can post it in public.

So. I got laid off this morning.

My supervisor and I were both crying about it, but the economy sucks and her job is in danger, too. I'm still getting the bonus for which I spent all of June busting my ass, and that at least will pay for rent for a few months. Will file for unemployment tomorrow.

Yeah, so. I think I'll spend today feeling very sorry for myself, and start the soul-crushing search for a new job in the morning.

Update on yesterday's shenanigans!

I got up at 4:15 EST this morning, flew to Chicago, took a taxi to the apartment and put on some clothes that I hadn't been wearing for days, and then went to the office. Only 45 minutes late. The therapeutic values of coffee and clean underwear are not to be underestimated.

Five minutes after I arrived at the office, I was informed that I need to have a documentation project done by July. The Gone With the Wind of tech manuals. For horribly complicated and ancient proprietary software.

I'll be spending the next two weeks furiously writing technical documentation by day and desperately trying to write a Sweet Charity story by night, with no time for anything else. I am not best pleased.

If you'll excuse me, I need to run some accounting reports now and then cry like a little girl before I tackle the Manual That Ate Tokyo.

Please send a Ianto.

United canceled my flight from [info]con_txt to Chicago. Then they failed to provide me with the right hotel voucher form, although the front desk was kind enough to charge me the $99 rate rather than their usual $289. Am on hold with the pigfuckers at United for refund, but have little hope.

Aaaaand now I'm being told that I will have to submit my bill for reimbursement, but I have to call someone else to find out where to send it. I'm not dealing with this tonight.

Am scheduled on 6:30am flight, will probably have to get up at 4am to beat the angry crowd of passengers who are staying at the hotel with me. Will definitely be late for work.

Fuck this noise. I'm taking a shower and going to bed.

cannot textually render

yeah yeah yeahs
You guys. YOU GUYS.

I was telling Molly as we were leaving that I do not think I can textually render the hilarity of this evening with Empires at the Debonair Social Club.

Like, Molly and I went for dinner and walked up to the club around 9:45pm because we didn't know what time they were playing (AND NEITHER DID THEY, WE DISCOVERED), and Sean was outside and went, "Heyyy, you're here!"

Like, hanging out with Empires and their friends and family and talking to all of them and getting hugs and chatting for ages with Danielle and running into Ryan's sisters in the bathroom while the DJ was playing PatD songs and they were projecting Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Fight Club on the walls.

Ryan hit himself in the eye with his drumstick, and I'm hoping that someone takes him to the doctor tomorrow, srsly. Tom Conrad is always taller than I think he is. Nick Scimeca was there, and every time he looked at me, I was thinking, "What? WHAT? Stop looking at me, Scimeca!" The guys practice at Max's parents' house. There were shenanigans with Ryan's chest hair. Al refusing to hit on the bartender with the very low cut shirt who was very proud of her boobs. Very proud. Ahahahahahahaha /o\ what.

I don't even know, dude. I do not. Even. Know.

Everyone asked us if we were going to the Metro show. We just kept making "um, duh?" faces at them. ♥♥♥ Ugh, I love this band so hard.

Oh my GOD, I need to go to bed.

It's hot. It's Friday. It's REALLY HOT, it's Friday, and I'm running low on work to do.

I'm in a wedding party this summer, and I'll be wearing marine blue. My dress has come in and I need to have a fitting soon, which means I will need shoes.

Y'all, there are a fuckton of silver dress shoes at Zappos. I went through all of them last night and narrowed down my selection:

Poll #1200410 Help me choose my shoes!

DO NOT WANT
My adventures in "Reply All", let me show you them.

When my faith in humanity is at an all time low, it's nice to take a break from Epic Tales of Shitweasels in order to mock some petty, mostly harmless stupidity.

Earlier today, someone sent an e-mail company-wide. Everyone makes mistakes. It was obvious that it was an accident. Unfortunately, it also included a rather large file attachment.

And then someone hit, "Reply All." And another. And then another. "I don't think this was meant for me. :)" "I was copied on this message in error." "Is this for me????" "Not sure why I got this e-mail." "That makes 11 of us!"

THE STUPID, IT BURRRRRRRRRNS. CAN'T. DELETE. FAST. ENOUGH. FUCK ALL Y'ALL AND YOUR STUPID READ RECEIPTS.

In my deleted items folder, I have 935 messages and counting. (I had to update that number 5 times while typing this post.) I had to shut down Outlook because they were crashing it, and also because I was tempted to write an expletive-filled note to every single Reply All Chucklehead. And I can't do that, because if I get fired, I won't be able to support my concert ticket habit.

So. How is your day going?

(Edited to add: Ladies and Gentlemen, we have broken 1,000!)

Hi. You may have seen me babble happily about this band called Empires. They are precious dorkfaces and I really enjoy going to their shows.

They released an album today. You can download it for free at their website.

Please give them a listen! This album is the only thing keeping from going psychopants on the world today. I'm too busy making heart-hands at this band.
